Abstract: This grain-oriented electromagnetic steel sheet comprises a base steel sheet, a glass coating formed on the base steel sheet, and a tension-imparting insulating coating formed on the glass coating, wherein: multiple linear distortion regions, which continuously or intermittently extend in a direction intersecting with a rolling direction, are present in the base steel sheet, each of the multiple linear distortion regions has a width of 210 µm or less in the rolling direction, the multiple linear distortion regions are parallel to each other, and the interval between adjoining linear distortion regions is 10 mm or less in the rolling direction; and magnetostriction ?0-pb per unit µm/m obtained when excited to 1.7 T and magnetostriction ?0-pa per unit µm/m obtained when excited to 1.7 T after having been heat-treated at 800° C for 4 hours satisfy 0.02 = ?0-pb - ?0-pa = 0.20.
