BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
WO2003089069A1 provides a system for recording, monitoring and analyzing performance in the gym using a transducer and an interface fitted to standard gym equipment. The system consists of a client software for a handheld computer, interface software for a personal computer (PC), and server software for a host system. The client software is used to record and send data representing time, displacement and angle of the lifted weight. The interface software facilitates transfer of the data from the handheld computer to the host server. The server software facilitates upload of data, which it stores, analyses and reports through a web interface and by file downloads. It also allows for on-line programming of exercise routines for later download into handheld computers, through the PC interface software.

The present invention is related to the field of athletics and fitness. With the increasing demand and awareness among people regarding fitness, more and more people are joining gym nowadays. With numerous gym exercises, it becomes quite exhausting and distracting to count the number of sets and repetitions of each exercise done in the gym and keep a track of it. Also, with gym trainers not able to focus on each and every gym user, most people end up doing the exercise in a wrong way. In order to solve this problem, this invention provides a solution to the counting and monitoring of gym exercises by using a handy, portable and battery-operated edge device.
This disclosure proposes an edge device consisting of a camera (200), a computing unit (201) attached to the display (202) for displaying the count and indicating whether the posture is correct or not. The system is capable of sending the recorded count to the cloud server (203) and recording the count on a daily basis and making it accessible to the user for proper monitoring of workout. The cloud server facilitates uploading, storing and providing recorded data in digital form as well as in the form of file downloads. The edge device makes it easy for the user to focus on a particular type of workout without having to care for counting and monitoring the exercise.
Best Method of working:
The camera (200) of the edge device collects real time video of the person working out in the gym. The camera then sends this as an input to the Computing Unit (201) which further counts the number of sets and repetitions of a particular exercise and monitor the body posture for correctness. The Computing Unit (201) is trained by machine learning to count the number of sets and repetitions and also monitor the body posture of the gym user. The output (count and correct body posture) of the Computing Unit (201) is sent to the display (202) as an input which displays the count and the status of correctness of the body posture of that particular exercise.
The count and body posture data of each day is sent and stored to the cloud server. This data, whenever required, is accessible by the user in the digital form as well as in the document form, the option for which is available in the edge device only. The daily data accessed from the cloud server thus helps the gym user to monitor his daily gym activity.
ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION:
Following are the advantages of the invention:
1. The present invention will solve the problem of counting the number of sets and repetitions of a specific exercise by a gym user and thus helping the person to focus on the exercise without getting distracted.
2. The present invention provides solution to the person working out in gym to monitor correct gym posture and hence increase the outcome of that particular exercise.
3. The present invention will help in storing the daily counting data to the cloud server thus making it easy for the gym user to track his activity by being able to access the data in the digital form or in the document form.
4. The present invention provides a portable, handy and battery-operated edge device which needs not be attached to the gym equipment but to be placed in front of the gym user.
Novel Features of the present invention are as follows:
1. Smart edge device with controlling unit and a display for counting and monitoring gym exercises.
2. Using an edge device in counting and monitoring gym exercises.
3. Counting of number of sets and number of repetitions of countable gym exercises with the help of an edge device.
4. Monitoring the correct body posture for any type of gym exercise with the help of an edge device.
5. Sending and storing counting data of gym exercise of a particular user to the cloud server through an edge device.
