Handhold structure for a motorcycle
Field of the invention:
The present inventions relate to a "Handhold structure for a motorcycle" and more particularly to an improved structure for attaching the hand hold to a scooter type motorcycle.
Background of the invention:
Typically, a scooter type motorcycle comprises of the front portion, the mid portion and the rear portion. A scooter type motorcycle is provided with a floorboard on the step through space between the handle bar and the rider's seat, on which the driver's feet are placed to drive the vehicle in a state of seating. The floorboard includes a floorboard extension extending reanwardly of a foremost position of the seat which is fixed to the vehicle body frame and is located in the step through space available between the handle bar and seat. The said floor board is substantially in a straight plane, where the front end of the floor board towards the front cover, is slightly raised upward, thereby forming a L shaped structure. In conventional scooter type motorcycles, it is a usual practice of carrying the kid by making him stand on the floor board of the scooter. In such a case the kid uses the handle bar for gripping purpose. Often times, the rider finds it difficult to rotate the handle for maneuvering the vehicle. The rotating handle bar also causes inconvenience to the kid.
In order to solve this problem, a provision for grasping/holding is provided which is independent of the handle bar rotation. To fulfill this requirement a hand hold is introduced which is mounted on the panel rear which will provide better gripping for holding without creating any problem to the rider. It is therefore an object of the present invention to overcome the above mentioned drawbacks and provide an improved holding assembly and its associated means for use, in a scooter type motorcycle.
Summary of the invention:
The hand hold structure in accordance with this invention is intended to provide an easy to use and easy to manufacture hand hold structure that can be used for holding purpose.
The hand hold structure for a scooter type motorcycle includes a handle that is a tubular element extending longitudinally on either side. The opposite ends of the handle are adapted to provide a plurality of mounting points secured thereto. Another mounting point is provided in the central portion of the handle.
It is an object of the instant invention to provide a hand hold structure which allows the handle of the hand hold structure to be maintained in an extended position.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide for an easily manufactured and installed hand hold structure, which has the above-mentioned features.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a hook which can be mounted in the central portion of the handle by using the central mounting point of the hand hold structure.
It is further an object of the present invention to provide a hand hold structure that can be either mounted with the help of fastening members or can be integrated with the structural member of the scooter.
It is another object of the present invention wherein the handle can be a single piece or two pieces coupled together at the central portion of the said structure..
It is further an object of the present invention in which one or more hooks can be mounted on the handle to facilitate objects to be hung on the said handle.
Brief Description of the Drawings:
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein FIG. 1 is a view of a conventional two wheeled scooter type motor vehicle.
FIG. 2 showing the hand hold structure.
FIG. 3 showing hand hold.
FIG. 4 is a side view of hand hold structure.
Detailed Description of the Drawinas:
Referring to Figure 1, the reference number 1 denotes a front wheel, 2 denotes a front fork, 3 denotes a front fender, 4 denotes a front cover, 5 denotes a glove box area, 6 denotes a handle bar cover, 7 denotes a headlight, 8 denotes a handle bar ,17 denotes a rear fender and 18 denotes tail lamp.
The center of the body forms a low floor board 9 for functioning as a part for putting feet and a under cowl 10 which is located below the rider's seat and covers at least a part of the engine, The under cowl is made up of metal or resin. The under cowl is hinged to the seat 11. A utility box 12 opens from the rear end to hinged portion. The utility box 12 is provided under the seat extending longitudinally of a vehicle body and the inside of the utility box has a large capacity so that a large article can be housed. A main frame 14 extended along the center of the body before and behind and made of a metallic pipe and is provided under the floor board 9. A swing type power unit 13 is coupled to the rear end of the main frame 14.
A rear wheel 15 is supported on one side of the rear end of the swing type power unit 13. The swing type power unit 13 is suspended in the rear of a body frame.
The side covers 16 both on left and right sides, covers the utility box 12 and other parts of the vehicle, thereby providing a good appearance to the vehicle. The present invention relates generally to a hand hold structure and more particularly to a hand hold structure for a scooter type motorcycle. Referring to Figure 2, the hand hold structure as described in the present invention comprises of a grab handle 201, which an inverted U shaped tubular member extending longitudinally on both sides. The opposite ends of the said handle are provided with a plurality of mounting points 301 (shown in Figure 3). A fastening member 401 is provided at each end of the said handle 201 which extends through the respective mounting points so as to enable attachment of the said handle to a structural portion of the vehicle body.
The said hand hold structure is mounted on the panel rear 202, which is used to hide the frame elements of the front portion of a scooter type motorcycle. The panel front and the panel rear 202 define the body panels of the front portion of a scooter type motorcycle and the hand hold structure is positioned below the panel rear neck by means of fastening members so that it can be reached easily by the user standing on the floor board. A recessed area is located underneath the handle of the hand hold so that the user can insert his hand under the handle and easily grasp it.
In an embodiment of the present invention the hand hold structure is mounted on the panel rear 201 above the utility space provided in the form of a glove box 5. A three point mounting structure for the hand hold structure is provided wherein the grab handle is secured to the structural portion of the vehicle at three points (203, 204, and 205) by means of fasteners inserted through the holes and secured to the frame of the vehicle or other fixed structural portion. The said hand hold structure can be a single piece or two separate pieces coupled together at the central part of the assembly.
Another embodiment of the present invention, illustrates the structural elements that make up the hand hold structure when integrated with a bag hook 302. The hand hold structure mounted on the panel rear of the scooter type motorcycle is provided with a bag hook 302 integrally attached at the central mounting point in order to facilitate hanging of objects from the said hook.
Also a plurality of hook members are adapted to be provided on the said handle of the hand hold structure which is either fixed or can be slidably mounted.
In another embodiment of the present invention the hand hold structure can either be integrated with the panel rear or can be mounted on the panel rear by means of fastening members.
The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
