Abstract: The present invention provides a handle bar assembly for a vehicle such as motor cycle comprising clip on holder handle bar pipe bush damping bushes grub screw O-ring washer etc. wherein the dampening bushes are placed in the holder with washers at both the ends for dampening the vibration and grub screw mounted on the holder arrests the rotation of the bush and the handle bar pipe.
The present invention relates to a handle bar assembly for a vehicle. More particularly the
Background of invention:
In handle bar assembly the vibration is major strain to the rider. As the handle bar assembly is
directly connected or assembled with a connecting rod whose other end is connected the front
wheel. Therefore, the vibration experienced by the wheel during driving is transmitted to the
rider. This strain leads to discomfort for rider. Apart from discomfort, such vibrations rcsults in
other effects which cause severe damages to the vehicle. Such as due to vibration, thc parts of
vehicle may loosen in due course and may result into safety issues. Hence, vibration dampening
is must in handle bar assembly.
In practice many handle bar mechanism available in field for joining clip on holder and handle
bar assembly. In one of such kind of mechanism bush assembly is rubber insert moulded and
press fitted in handle bar tube assembly. Then bush is crimped to form solid joint and this handle
bar assembly is joint with holder by bolt in center. The holder is aluminum die cast. f Iandle
holder is steel tube and bush is steel having rubber in between. In more available mechanism, the
handle bar is directly welded with holder. Holder and handle bar are steel type
Problems associated with currently available mechanism:
I. Handle bar assembly rotates in holder. No positive rotation arrest available. This leads to
safety issues and discomfort.
2. Vibration dampening failure due to inadequate rubber designs.
3. Welded joints transfers direct vibration, hence no dampening
Objectives of present invention:
The main objective of the present invention is to overcome at least one of the above problems of
the conventional technology.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide a handle bar assembly (100) with a
mechanism for dampening of vibration.

Still another objective of the present invention is to
locking means (5) to lock the rotation of handle bar sub-assembly (101) with respect to the
holder (1 00).
Summary
The present invention provides a handle bar assembly (100) for a vehicle. The handle bar
assembly (100) comprises a holder (1) and handle bar sub-assembly (101). The handle bar subassembly
(101) comprises a fastening means (4), handle bar pipe (7), bush (1 l), damper unit (9),
locking means (5), sealing ring (6), washers (14), cover cap (3). The damper unit (9) compriscs
one or more dampening bushes of predetermined length according to an embodiment of the
present invention. The said damper unit (9) is placed on the tail (4b) fastening means (4) having
washers on either side. A sleeve (8) is disposed between damper unit (9) and fastening means
(4). The fastening means (4) is being provided to secure the position of the damper unit (9) and
handle bar pipe (7) encompassing the bush (1 1) at center. The handle bar sub-assembly (101) is
being mounted in mounting aperture (2) provided in the holder (1). The head (4a) of fastening
means is being cover by the cover cap (3). The cover cap (3) covers or closes the mounting
aperture (2) from its first end. The damper unit (9) dampens the vibrations caused during driving
of vehicle. The handle bar assembly (100) is being provided with the locking means (5). The
locking means (5) arrests the rotation of the handle bar sub-assembly (101) with respect to the
holder (100).

Detail Description of Present Invention
Before describing in detail embodiments it may be observed that the novclty and
inventive step that are in accordance with the present invention resides in the handle bar
assembly (100) for a vehicle. It is to be noted that a person skilled in the art can be motivated
from the present invention and modify the various constructions of assembly. Howevcr, such
modification should be construed within the scope and spirit of the invention.
Accordingly, the drawings are showing only those specific details that are pertincnt to
understanding the embodiments of the present invention so as not to obscure the disclosure
with details that will be readily apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art having benefit
of the description herein.
Accordingly present invention provides a handle bar assembly (100) for a vehicle comprising a
handle bar sub assembly (101) comprising a fastening means (4), a damper unit (9) of
predetermined length mounted on the said fastening means (4) at predetermined location, a
sleeve (8) of predetermined length disposed between said damper unit (9) and the fastcning
means (4) and a cylindrical handle bar pipe (7), encompasses a bush of predetermined lcngth at
first end (13) of handle bar pipe (7), mounted on the said fastening means (4) and adjaccnt to the
damper unit (9); a holder (1) having mounting aperture (2) to accommodate the handle bar subassembly
(101).
In one aspect of the present invention, one or more washers (14) are mounted on eithcr sidcs oS
the damper unit (9).

dampening bushes of predetermined length.

In still another aspect of the present invention, outer ends of the dampening bushes which face
washers are provided with a collar (9a, 9b) so as to form a groove of predetermined lcngth to
accommodate protruded portion (2a) provided in the mounting aperture of the holder when the
said dampening bushes are placed together facing inner ends (9c).
In yet another aspect of the present invention, the washers (14) are provided with similar profile
as of the collar (9a, 9b) of dampening bushes so as to lock the damper unit (9) properly.
In another aspect of the present invention, at least a sealing ring (6) is disposed between the
holder (1) and handle bar pipe (7) at predetermined location for providing sealing and to restrict
entry of foreign particles.
In still another aspect of the present invention, the bush (1 1) is press is fitted in cavity provided
on the first end of handle bar pipe (7) and the handle bar pipe (7) encompasses the press fitted
bush (1 1) optionally with the help of its bend edges (13a) provided at first end (13) of handle bar
pipe (7) which rests on inwardly step portion provided on the bush (11) at predetermined
location.
In yet another aspect of the present invention, the handle bar pipe (7) and bush (1 1) are provided
with a cavity in radial direction at predetermined location so as to accommodate a locking means
(5) in order to lock the movement of handle bar pipe (5) with respect to holder (1).
In another aspect of the present invention, a cavity is being provide in the holdcr (1) to
accommodate the locking means (5) radially to the handle bar pipe (7).
In still another aspect of the present invention, the bush (1 1) is provided with a first portion
(1 la), a second portion (1 lb) and a third portion (1 lc) each having predetermined lcngth and
diameter.

In yet another aspect of the present invention, the handle bar with the first
portion (I 1 a), the damper unit (9) is mounted on second portion (1 1 b) and a locking fastener (1 6) $3

In another aspect of the present invention, the handle bar pipe (100) is assembled with first
portion (1 la) of bush (1 1) by press fitting of bush in the cavity provided at the first end of handle
bar pipe (7) and optionally by means of welding (15).
In still another aspect of the present invention, the handle bar pipe (7) and the first portion (1 la)
of bush are provided with a radial cavity at predetermined location so as to accornmodatc the
locking means (5) coming through cavity of holder (1) in order to lock the movement of handle
bar pipe (7) with respect to holder (1).
In yet another aspect of the present invention, sleeve (8) is disposed between damper unit (9) and
the second portion (1 1 b) of the bush.
In another aspect of the present invention, a cover cap (3) is mounted at first end of mounting
aperture (2) of the holder to cover or close the mounting aperture (2) from its first end.
In still another aspect of the present invention, the handle bar pipe is mounted in the mounting
aperture of the holder from its second end (lb) having a clearance fit betwcen surfacc of
mounting aperture and outer surface of handle bar pipe.
Accordingly, the present invention relates to a handle bar assembly for a vehicle. Referring to
figure 1, which shows the handle bar assembly of the present invention, it can be observed that
the same comprises holder, handle bar pipe, bush, damper unit, locking means, fastening means,
a sealing ring, washer according to an embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in figure 1, handle bar assembly (100) comprises a holder (I), handle bar subassembly
(101), locking means (5) and sealing ring (6). The handle bar sub-assembly (101)
comprises a fastening means (4), handle bar pipe (7) encompassing a bush (1 1) at first end (13)
of handle bar pipe (7) mounted on fastening means (4), damper unit (9), sleeve (8) and one or
more locking washers or washers (14) mounted on fastening means (4) adjacent to the handle bar
pipe (7). The fastening means (4) holds the handle bar pipe (7) and damper unit (9) along with
proper position. The fastening means (4) has a head (4a) and an elongated portion such as tiil
(4b). The damper unit (9) and handle bar pipe (7) along the bush (1 1) placed therein are mounted
on tail (4b) of fastening means (4). The handle bar pipe (7) is provided with a cylindrical cavity
of predetermined length and diameter at its first end. The cavity is being provided to
accommodate the bush (1 I). The bush is cylindrical in shape and has its outer diameter similar to
the inner diameter of the cavity provided in the handle bar pipe (7). The bush (1 1) has a bore to
accommodate the tail (4b) of fastening means. The bush is optionally provided with an inward
step (12) in order to have a neck portion. The neck portion has lesser outer diameter than thc
outer diameter of the bush being encompassed by the handle bar pipe (7). This variation in
diameter forms a step (12). The handle bar pipe (7) is optionally provided with inwardly bend
edges (13a) at its first end (13). The bush (1 1) is press fitted in cylindrical cavity of handle bar
pipe (7) and crimped directly with the bent edges (13a) of the handle bar pipe (7) according to an
embodiment of the present invention. The bent edge (13a) of the handle bar pipe (7) rests at the
step portion (12) of the bush (1 1) as shown in figure 1. The handle bar pipe (7) is mounted in the
mounting aperture (2) from its second end (lb) with clearance fit according to an embodiment of
the present invention.
The damper unit (9) is mounted on the fastening means (4) adjacent to the neck portion of the
bush (1 1). The sleeve (8) is disposed between damper unit and fastening means (4). The damper
unit (9) comprises one or more cylindrical dampening bushes. Preferably, the damper unit (9)
comprises two dampening bushes predetermined diameter. The dampening bushes have a bore to
accommodate the tail (4b) of fastening means. One or more washers (14) are being provided at
the ends of the damper unit (9) so as to lock the damper unit (9) in its proper position. 'I'hc outer
ends of the dampening bushes which face the washers (14) are provided with a collar (9a, 9b)
while the inner ends (9c) are having predetermined diameter. When the said dampening bushes
are placed together facing inner ends (9c), a groove of predetermined length is formed as the
collars (9a, 9b) are being provided at the outer ends of dampening bushes. The said groove
accommodate protruded portion (2a) provided in the mounting aperture (2) of the holder (1). The
washers are preferably two in number being provided on first side and second side of thc dampcr
unit (9). The first washer (14a) provided on first side of the damper unit is being supported by
inner surface of the head (4a) of the fastening means from one side while the collar (9a) of the
dampening bushes supports from the other side. The second washer (14b) provided on second
side of the damper unit is being supported by the collar (9b) of the dampening bushes from the

one side while the other side is supported by the neck portion of the bush (1 I). The washers (14a,
14b) lock the damper unit (9) at its proper position. Each washer is provided with a borc to
accommodate the tail (4a) of fastening means (4). The washers (14a, 14b) are having similar
profile as of outer ends of dampening bushes or collars (9a, 9b) of dampening bushes so as to
have proper fitment between dampening bushes and washers (l4a, 14b).
The head (4a) of fastening means is being covered by a cap (3). The cover cap (3) is being placcd
at first end (la) of the mounting aperture (2) so as to close the mounting aperture and to protect
from the entry of the foreign particles.
The holder (I) is provided with cavity (5) to accommodate a locking means (5) at predctcrmincd
location. The handle bar sub-assembly (101) also provided with similar cavity in conformity with
holder (1) so as to accommodate the locking means (5) according to an embodiment of the
present invention. More particularly, the handle bar pipe (7) and the bush (1 1) placed therein arc
provided with similar cavity so as to accommodate the locking means (5). The locking means (5)
is being inserted through cavity provided in holder (1) and then goes in to the cavity provided in
the handle bar sub-assembly up to predetermined length. It can be noted from the figures 1 and 2
that upon assembling of the locking means with the handle bar sub-assembly (lo]), optionally a
clearance of predetermined millimeter (mm) has been provided between the bottom surface of
locking means (5), which faces handle bar sub-assembly, and the handle bar sub-assembly (1 01).
This clearance prevents the transfer of vibration being experienced by the holder (1) to the
handle bar sub-assembly (101) and consequently to the rider of the vehicle.
Referring to figure 2, handle bar sub-assembly (101) is provided with the bush placcd thcrcin
having an elongated portion according to an embodiment of the present invention. The bush is
provided with an elongated portion having predetermined diameters such as first, second and
third portions. The first portion ( l l a ) having predetermined length and diameter is bcing
mounted in the cavity provided in the handle bar pipe (7). The first portion (1 la) of bush is prcss
fitted in the handle bar pipe. The handle bar pipe is assembled with the first portion (1 la)
optionally by means of welding (15) in order avoid any slip or displacement of first portion (1 1 a)
within the handle bar pipe (7). The second portion (I 1 b) of the bush having predetermined length
and diameter is provided adjacent to the first portion for mounting of the damper unit (9) along
with locking washers (14a, 14b) at the ends. The sleeve (8) of predetermined length is disposed
between damper unit (9) and second portion (1 lb) of the bush. The damper unit and locking

washers are provided with bore of predetermined diamete

(1 lb) of the bush. The third portion (1 lc) is provided at the end of the bush and adjacent to the
second portion. The third portion is provided for mounting of locking fasteners (17) to lock the
damper unit and consequently handle bar sub-assembly at predetermined location. After
fastening of the locking fasteners (17) at third portion (1 lc), the third portion of bush is being
covered by the cap (3). The cover cap is being placed at first end (la) of the mounting aperture
so as to close the mounting aperture and to protect from the entry of the foreign particles.
The sealing ring (6) is disposed between handle bar-sub assembly (101) and holder (1). The said
sealing ring (6) is provided to restrict of entry of foreign particles such as dust, water entry and
reduces the risk of other deterioration effects caused due to such foreign particles.
The holder (1) of handler bar assembly is in connection with the wheels of vehicle via
connecting links. Therefore, the holder experiences the vibrations directly as caused during the
driving of vehicle on road. As shown in figures 1 and 2, the holder of handle bar assembly is in
directly contact with the damper unit (9) as the protruded portion (2a) of the mounting aperture
(2) of holder rests in the groove formed in the damper unit according to an embodiment of the
present invention. The handle bar pipe (7) is placed in the mounting aperture (2) of the holder
from its second end (lb) with a clearance fit between surface of mounting aperture and the outer
surface of the handle bar pipe (7). As the holder (1) is in directly contact with the damper unit,
therefore, the vibrations experienced by the holder are being dampened by the damper unit (9).
In this way the user of vehicle does not feel uncomfortable due to uncontrolled vibrations during
driving of the vehicle. The locking means (5) mounted in the holder (1) and handle bar subassembly
(101) arrests the rotation or movement of the handle bar sub-assembly with respect to
the holder and keeps handle bar in proper position.
We claim:
1. A handle bar assembly (1 00) for a vehicle comprisine(:
a handle bar sub assembly (1 01) comprising:
a fastening means (4);
a damper unit (9) of predetermined length mounted on the said fastening means
(4) at predetermined location;
a sleeve (8) of predetermined length disposed between said damper unit (9) and
the fastening means (4); and
a cylindrical handle bar pipe (7), encompasses a bush of predetermined length at
first end (13) of handle bar pipe (7), mounted on the said fastening means (4) and
adjacent to the damper unit (9);
a holder (1) having mounting aperture (2) to accommodate the handle bar sub-assembly
(1 0 1).
2. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein one or more washers (14)
are mounted on either sides of the damper unit (9).
3. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the damper unit (9)
comprises one or more dampening bushes of predetermined length.
4. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 3, wherein the dampening bushes are
cylindrical in shape and having a bore of predetermined diameter to accommodate tail
(4b) of fastening means.
5. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 3, wherein outer ends of the
dampening bushes which face washers are provided with a collar (9a, 9b) so as to form a
groove of predetermined length to accommodate protruded portion (2a) provided in the
mounting aperture of the holder when the said dampening bushes are placed together
facing inner ends (9c).
6. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 2, wherein the washers (14) are
provided with similar profile as of the collar (9a, 9b) of dampening bushes so as to lock
the damper unit (9) properly.
7. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, dherein at least a sealing ring (6) is
disposed between the holder (1) and handle bar pipe (7) at predetermined location for
providing sealing and to restrict entry of foreign particles.
8. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the bush (1 1) is press is
fitted in cavity provided on the first end of handle bar pipe (7) and the handle bar pipc (7)
encompasses the press fitted bush (1 1) optionally with the help of its bend edges (13a)
provided at first end (13) of handle bar pipe (7) which rests on inwardly step portion
provided on the bush (I 1) at predetermined location.
9. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the handle bar pipc (7) and
bush (1 1) are provided with a cavity in radial direction at predetermined location so as to
accommodate a locking means (5) in order to lock the movement of handle bar pipe (5)
with respect to holder (1).
10. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein a cavity is being provide in
the holder (I) to accommodate the locking means (5) radially to the handle bar pipe (7).
11. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the bush (1 1) is provided
with a first portion (1 la), a second portion (1 lb) and a third portion (I lc) each having
predetermined length and diameter.
12. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 11, wherein the handle bar pipc (7) is
assembled with the first portion (I la), the damper unit (9) is mounted on second portion
(1 lb) and a locking fastener (16) is mounted on third portion (1 lc) of the bush (1 1).
13. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 12, wherein the handle bar pipe (100)
is assembled with first portion (1 la) of bush (1 1) by press fitting of bush in the cavity
provided at the first end of handle bar pipe (7) and optionally by means of welding (1 5).
14. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 12, wherein the handle bar pipe (7)
and the first portion (1 la) of bush are provided with a radial cavity at predetermined
location so as to accommodate the locking means (5) coming through cavity of holder (1)
in order to lock the movement of handle bar pipe (7) with respect to holder (1).

15. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 12, wherein sleeve (8~0srbg~osed

16. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claims 1 and 12, wherein a cover cap (3) is
mounted at first end of mounting aperture (2) of the holder to cover or close the mounting
aperture (2) from its first end.
17. The handle bar assembly (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the handle bar pipe is
mounted in the mounting aperture of the holder from its second end ( 2 b) having a
clearance fit between surface of mounting aperture and outer surface of handle bar pipe.
