Abstract: This invention provides headlamp for a two wheeler having a lens, a reflector mounted on the lens housing; a bezel sandwiched between lens and lens housing; and at least one parking / position lamp on the bezel comprising one LED; one light guide; and one lens having controlled optics.
Headlamp for a Vehicle
Field of the Invention:
The subject matter described herein, in general, relates headlamp for a vehicle and in particular relates to light guides for vehicle position lamps.
Background of the Invention:
Typically a construction of headlamp consists of a lens and reflector along with the position / parking lamps. The parking / position lamps visibility is less and restricted to a single plane. Parking lamps allows only circular or elliptical geometrical shapes and are restricted to smaller size and shapes. In the said construction, single / two sources are required for parking lamps illumination and is restricted to concentrates light in one angle only. These parking lamps are very often prone to failures thereby leading to servicing and accessing bulbs very frequently. In this kind of construction of headlamp having lens and reflector restricts the frequent change in customer needs thereby allowing less design flexibility. The assembling also becomes difficult as the surrounding parts have different mounting points.
Additionally, in order to differentiate the vehicle lamps from conventional lamps in appearance, demand has been increasing for vehicle lamp designs which are capable of delivering a character to the vehicle or headlamp.
Therefore, the present invention tries to overcome the existing problem and aims at providing a distinctive appearance in light emission.
Summary of the Invention:
In view of the foregoing characteristics, technical features, and other problems and reasons, the presently disclosed subject matter includes a headlamp for a vehicle which can improve the visibility of parking / position lamps by providing LED light guides.
Another object of the present invention is to provide LED light guide for parking / position lamps in a manner that that the outermost ends of the said light guide emits light.
Another object of the present invention is to provide LED light guide for parking / position lamps whereby the light guides delivers non- geometrical shapes which drives the character / aggressiveness for the vehicle.
Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description. Brief Description of the Invention:
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein
Figure 1 shows a conventional motorcycle.
Figure 2 shows the headlamp according to the present invention.
Figure 3 shows the rear of headlamp according to the present invention.
Figure 4 shows the exploded view of the headlamp according to the present invention.
Figure 5 shows the reflected light from the position lamps according to the present invention.
Detail Description of the Invention:
The present invention now will be described more fully hereinafter with different embodiments. This invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather those embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art.
With reference to figure 1 a motorcycle comprises of a frame (101), front fork (102) attached to a pivot tube (201) of the vehicle frame, a front wheel (103) attached to these front forks (102), a handle bar (104) connected to the front forks (102), a fuel tank (105) attached so as to straddle an upper part of the vehicle frame, a seat (106) attached to the upper rear portion of the vehicle frame, an engine unit (107) attached to the lower front section of the vehicle frame, a swing arm (108) attached to a lower rear section of the vehicle frame, suspended by a rear shock absorber (not shown) from the vehicle frame and a rear wheel attached to a rear end of swing arm (108). The intake system of the engine comprises of a fuel air metering device such as a carburetor (109), intake duct and an air cleaner. The exhaust system of the engine comprises of exhaust pipe and a muffler. The motorcycle is also provided with a side cover for covering a side section of the vehicle frame, a seat cover for covering a rear section of the vehicle frame below the seat, a front fender (110) for covering an upper part of the front wheel (103), and a rear fender (111) for covering an upper part of the rear wheel (112). The drive from the engine (107) is transmitted from the engine to the driven wheel sprocket mounted on the rear wheel hub mounted on the rear wheel assembly.
According to one embodiment of the present invention and referring to figure 2, figure 3, figure 4 and figure 5, a headlamp 202 is provided with a lens 203, reflector 204, bezel 205, housing 206 and cover cord set also called as trays 207, LED position lamps / parking lamps 208 and light guides 209.
The said light guide 209 has a longitudinal axis that extends in a curved fashion and downwardly from the incident surface at one end to other end. The said light guide 209 looks like a eyelid 210 on the face or headlamp 202. The said light guide 209 is provided with steps which enables better visibility up to 50 degree view angle as against the traditional construction method of concentrated light at one angle either by bulb or LED.
At least one LED is made to act as one light source unit for the eyelid/eyebrow shaped light guide 209. The said LED is provided on one of the trays 207 and the light the said source is made incident on one end of the said light guide 209. The incident light travels in the guide till its outermost end. The said eyelid/eyebrow shaped light guide acts as first parking / position lamp.
At least one more LED is provided in another tray for second parking / position lamp 212 in the headlamp. The said second parking / position lamp 212 is exactly placed below the eyelid shaped light guide 209 and thereby giving an impressive appearance for excellent and different aesthetic qualities. The said first parking / position lamp with second parking / position lamp completes the character of an eye and eyelid/eyebrow.
The LED for second parking / position lamp 212 is made to incident on a inner lens, which further is made to fall on another lens ( inner side of which is provided with serrations) with controlled optics.
According tethers invention, parking / position lamps visibility is proved by providing LED light guides 209 in one or more planes (i.e., protruding light guide in 3 dimensional form) which helps in attracting attention and is a safety feature. The present construction also allows bigger size and shape for parking lamps that is obtained by providing LED light guides.
The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways.
Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
