Specification

HERBAL HAIR CARE COMPOSITION

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a herbal composition for hair care, and more particularly, a composition for achieving and preserving good growth of hair and prevent graying of hair. The present invention is also useful in preventing headaches, sneezing, cough, cold and fever.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Hair has diverse social and sexual significances in human beings. It is estimated that there are approximately 120,000 hairs in a human head, growing at an average rate of lcm per month, which in turn turns out to around 15 kilometres per year. The growth of hair is attributed to hair follicle, a complex organ rooted in the dermis to a depth of 4mm. The follicle is split in 3 areas- infundibulum, isthmus and bulb. The infundibulum is the uppermost segment and it extends from the entry of the sebaceous duct to the follicular orifice. This region does not change during the follicular life cycle. The isthmus is the segment between the point of insertion of the arrector pili muscle and the entrance of the sebaceous gland duct and the bulb is the deepest segment of the follicle, which is considered as the engine that drives the biological machine. It comprises the dermal papilla and the hair matrix.

Human hair undergoes a normal growth cycle wherein each hair grows continuously for approximately 2 to 4 years, and stops growing for 2 to 4 months, and then falls out. In its place, a new healthy hair begins to grow and this cycle is repeated. On an average, up to about 100 hairs is lost per day.

But excessive hair loss or alopecia has become a common problem in both males and females regardless of their age today. It has numerous causes, ranging from psychological stress to hormonal influences to chemical and physical trauma, such as from certain medications or from trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling). However, the single largest cause of human hair loss is androgenic alopecia, which is not well understood, but may be hereditary in nature. At present, people suffering from hair loss constitute about 25% of the population in Asia, and about 30% of the population in America and Europe. The drastic changes that have happened in the environment as well as personal habits have also induced hair loss and many other hair related problems today. The same changes are also causing increasing incidences of fever, cough, cold and sneezing in many.

A number of medical treatments and hair oils are presently available in the market, which claims to reduce hair loss and cure hair related problems. But many of the medications followed are chemical based oils and this may result in negative impacts in the long run.

There are some herbal products in the market, which include, but not limited to, Himalaya Herbal revitalizing hair oil, Dabur Amla hair oil, Parachute Hair oil, Dhathri Herbal Hair Oil and the Herbalist Herbal Hair Oil fhttp://www.theherbalist.com/herbal hair oil.html). The contents of Himalaya Herbal revitalizing hair oil include Emblica officinalis (Indian Gooseberry), Sapindus trifoliatus (Soapnut-tree), Azadirachta indica (Neem), Trigonella foenum-graecum (Fenugreek), Eclipta prostrata (Thistles), Cicer arietinum (Bengal Gram), Aegle marmelos (Bael Tree). The main ingredient of Dabur Amla hair oil is amla extracts. One of the major limitations of the chemical based hair care products found in the prior art is that it is unaffordable for most of the people and the prolonged use of such chemical based treatments for hair care can cause serious health hazards in the long run. In the case of many of the herbal products available in the prior art, it is noticed that the efficacy claimed and the actual results obtained by the consumers do not match many a times. Continued research and experimentation in this area is therefore necessary and an improved product for preventing hair loss and promoting hair growth is desirable. There exists a strong need to develop safer, effective and cheaper alternatives in hair care, which can promote and preserve hair growth, reduce hair loss, reduce dandruff, reduce color loss and maintain the shining of hair. There also exists a strong need to develop hair care compositions which may also be useful in giving cool feeling to the head and preventing headaches, sneezing, cough, cold and fever.
