“HERBAL NUTRACEUTICAL FORMULATION TO SUPPORT PROSTATE & REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH IN MEN”
2. TECHNICAL FIELD
2. The present invention relates to the field of herbal formulation and composition; more particularly health and wellness supplements. The present invention supports and improves the prostate health in men.
3.1 BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
3. Prostate is a small walnut sized reproductive gland in males located between the bladder and the penis whose main function is to secrete prostate fluid; one of the components of semen which nourishes and protects the sperm. A healthy prostate gland is essential for reproduction and fertility in men. The use of dietary supplements has increased dramatically as our knowledge about the role of nutrients and other bioactive components of food in health has increased. Although much of the information about the diet and health connection that has driven this trend is related to the reduction of chronic disease risk in adults, belief in the prophylactic use of dietary intervention including the use of dietary supplements has been extended to consumers throughout the life cycle.
4. In Ancient days, people maintained their health through proper diet practices. Herbs formed an integral part of their healthcare system. Herbalism was most popular in Asian Region and particularly India has been popular for herbs and herbal healthcare system since time immemorial.
5. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men other than skin cancer. About one in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their life time and about one in 38 will die from prostate cancer complications.
6. Risk factors for Prostate hyperplasia or Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH):
a. Ageing – Prostate gland usually grows in size throughout men’s life. Enlargement of prostate leads to BPH
b. Family History – Having a blood relative with BPH
c. Diabetes or Heart Disease – Use of beta blockers might lead to BPH.
d. Obesity – Lifestyle diseases like obesity may lead to development of BPH.
e. Oxidative stress
Prostate abnormalities may lead to male infertility problems as well as urinary tract infections and kidney problems.
7. In the ancient practice of Ayurveda, some of the medicinal plants have been known to possess bioactive compounds, scientifically proven for beneficial effects on prostate glands and can prevent the occurrence of BPH in men.
8. The present invention aims to give a health & wellness supplement which helps to protect and prevent hyperplasia in prostate glands, through the phytochemicals present in the herbal extracts which acts as antioxidant agents that suppresses the oxidative damage to prostate glands and in turn maintaining overall sexual health.

7. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
28. The present invention provides for the unique composition that supports and improves the prostrate health in men.
29. The present invention provides for herbal extract which has the ability to improve prostate health and support fertility in men, with a combination of Urtica dioica (Stinging Nettle Extract), Beta Sitosterol, Punica grantum (Pomegranate extract), Camellia chinensis (Green Tea Extract), Zinc sulphate, Lycopene and Vitamin D3.
29.1 Stinging Nettle Extract (Urtica dioica): It is one of the most scientifically studied medicinal plant worldwide. The anti-proliferative and apoptotic effects of U. dioica have been demonstrated on different human cancers, investigating the properties of U. dioica at cellular and molecular levels. The potent cytotoxicity and anti-cancer activity of the U. dioica extracts are due to its bioactive natural products content, including polyphenols which reportedly possess anti-oxidant, anti-mutagenic and anti-proliferative properties. The extract rich in polyphenols and antioxidants will protect prostate gland from free radical induced damages and development of BPH.
29.2 Pomegranate Extract (Punica granatum): Pomegranate extract rich in hydrolysable tannins such as punicalagins and anthocyanins has shown scientifically significant antioxidant and antiproliferative activity in prostate glands. Pomegranate polyphenols are known to inhibit aromatase activity and decrease the endogenous synthesis of estrogen. Recent scientific data suggests that high estrogens play a role in inducing premalignant dysplasia. Hence, pomegranate extract has natural ingredients capable of maintaining a healthy prostate gland.
30. Beta Sitosterol: Phytosterols are having proven benefits on BPH. Scientific studies suggest that Beta Sitosterol improve urinary symptoms and flow measures. It was observed that beta sitosterol had significantly improved International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and Quality of Life Score (QoL) in BPH.
31. Lycopene: Tomatoes are rich in Lycopene, a natural antioxidant which inhibits prostate cancer growth and metastases. Randomized clinical trials in humans have reported that lycopene supplementation lowers PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) levels in men with prostate cancer.
32. Green Tea Extract (Camellia chinensis): Green tea and its active ingredient, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) have numerous metabolic benefits mainly reducing the progression and invasion of numerous cancers, including prostate cancer. A number of scientific studies have concluded that catechins in green tea have potential preventing effect on prostate cancer.
33. Zinc Sulphate: The concentration of Zinc in the prostate is higher than that of any other soft tissue in our body. Zinc is a necessary component of numerous metalloproteins including those important for DNA synthesis, immune function, and antioxidant activity. A large body of literature supports a protective role for zinc with regard to prostate cancer progression. Zinc has been found to inhibit prostate cancer cell line growth and invasion. Low serum levels of zinc are associated with an increased incidence of prostate cancer.
34. Vitamin D3: A number of scientific studies have established the link between lower intake of vitamin D and risk the of developing prostate cancer. Although, the exact mechanism is not well understood, it is very well established that vitamin D3 supplementation could prove to be beneficial to prevent the occurrence of prostate cancer among men.
