DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In this invention an ordinary weed plant found in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand reason has been used to form and convent this weed plant into a nutritionally richer supplement, In common language of Uttarakhand it is called as “KANDALI”, “BICHU GHAS” Whereas The Common name of this plant is “NETTLE” (genus Urtica, family Urticaceae) There is a great deal of interest in using nettles as preservatives in foods for both humans and animals. Additionally, they have been utilized in conventional treatment for ages. The characteristics of nettles are discussed in order to demonstrate how they might be used more widely in the food and pharmaceutical sectors. A large variety of physiologically active substances may be found in nettles. The leaves, for instance, are rich in a wide variety of healthful substances including terpenoids, carotenoids, fatty acids, chlorophyll, vitamins, tannins, carbohydrates, sterols, polysaccharides, isolectins, and minerals. In addition to oleanol acid, sterols, and steryl glycosides, the roots of the nettle contain polyphenol-rich extracts as well. These extracts may be found in the aerial sections of the plant. Since there are so many different phytochemicals and their Nettles' high concentrations of antibacterial compounds are effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. As a result of these characteristics, nettles are suitable for a wide range of possible applications, some of which include use as functional foods, formulations of nutritional supplements, and medicinal products. Nettle is a source of nourishment that, despite these benefits, is still underestimated in comparison to man-made alternatives. The usage of nutritional supplements, which have been linked to a number of uncomfortable side effects, such as increased bowel movements, acne, bloating, and a diminished appetite. a comprehensive and original review of the most recent research on nettle plants, with a particular emphasis on the potential for changing a common weed into a commercial plant that may be used for a diverse variety of purposes. The nutritional value of the active chemicals found in nettles and the potential applications of these important plants in food and medicinal formulations are receiving a lot of interest at the moment.
This is an innovation of a nutritional supplement that was inspired by the Nettle plant (Urtica dioica), which is a kind of weed that has been used, and more specifically, the leaves of nettle have been utilised in this invention. The nettle plant is native to the hilly regions of Uttarakhand, and because this particular species of plant requires a steady supply of either moving or still water, the leaves of the nettle plant have an average moisture content of between 80 and 82 percent. Nettle plant can be found in Uttarakhand. Because the stings produced by the nettle plant are toxic, the safe collecting and handling of this plant has been a matter of discussion.
Nettle, or stinging nettle (Urtica dioica), is an herbaceous flowering plant that has been used as a natural remedy for thousands of years due to its medicinal and nutritional properties. You've probably passed by these wild herbs while out on a walk or hike. Nettle plants feature long, flat, rough-edged green leaves and long stems that can grow 6 to 8 feet tall. The leaves and stems are covered in tiny hairs with tips that come off and sting when touched. If you've ever brushed your bare skin against a bunch of nettles, you'll have noticed a burning rash and discomfort caused by the stinging liquid given off by these micro-hairs on contact.
But don't hold a grudge against nettle just yet, as this plant has been found to hold many health benefits when consumed as a powder, tincture, or tea. It's well documented that all parts of nettle—flowers, stems, roots and leaves—have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial value
The majority of the population in Uttarakhand has made use of the nettle plant for a variety of reasons, and the preparations made from this plant come in a wide variety of forms as well. For instance, nettle leaf juice and nettle preparations made with vegetables are both options available in this state.
In Uttarakhand tea derived from nettle plant is also very well enjoyed because of the various health benefits Nettle tea has an abundance of antioxidants in the form of carotenoids, terpenoids, and polyphenols, powerful antioxidants found in many parts. "Polyphenols play a powerful role in the prevention and management of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cancer, and heart disease,"
STEP INVOLVED IN PREPARATION OF NELLTE SUPPLEMENT
STEP: -1
COLLECTION
It is common to find nettle plants in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand, particularly in places where there is a steady flow of water. These plants may grow up to eight feet in length and contain stinging, deadly hairs. Because the string of this nettle plant can easily penetrate cotton clothes, the collection was carried out with extreme caution while wearing gloves with a thickness of approximately 0.25 millimetres. Additionally, when collecting nettle plant, long-sleeved t-shirts and full-length trousers or any suit that can cover all the parts of your hands and legs was preferred. Since the string of this nettle plant can easily penetrate cotton clothes, polyester is more preferable during the collection of nettle plant.
STEP:2
WASHING
Washing is also one of the most important step in any preparation drive from Washing is also one of the most important steps in any preparation drive from herbal plants because these plants are grown in such areas where all kinds of unwanted substances such as dust particles, pollen grains, and so on are present. In the case of Nettle, it is more susceptible because having higher moisture content and found in hilly areas where the continuous source of water is available, which may become a cause of which unwanted substance can be easily transferred to the leaves of nettle plant for the purpose of washing one can use tap water or more preferably distilled water in this invention that has been used is distilled water to wash the leaves of of nettle plant
STEP:-3
SEPARATION It is a difficult task to separate the nettle leaves from the stem because there are stings present on both the leaves and the stem, and the stings are particularly painful on the stem. Separation, also known as garbling, is a very important step that needs to be taken because, during the collection process, there may be some unwanted unintended plants that are collected unintentionally because they are grown nearby these nettle plants, and these plants may interfere with the pharmacological activity of the nettle. The use of rubber gloves with a thickness of more than 0.25 millimetres is recommended since even the slightest contact with these strings may induce an allergic reaction, a feeling of burning, and a sense of itching that can persist for many hours. Also, the ‘MANJARI’ of this plant is an undesirable portion that grows when the plant is old, and it is essential to remove this ‘MANAJRI’
STEP :-4
DRYING
Loss on drying of nettle leaves was determined in the lab where three 3 grams of the leaves has been weight accurately and placed inside a hot air oven and the temperature of oven was set on 103 degree plus minus 5 degree Celsius in the first cycle the accurately weed leaves were left inside the hot air oven for 20 minutes and again weight after cooling and the weight noted was .510 gram the second cycle the same leaves verb again left in the the hot air oven for 10 minutes and after cooling the the wait was.493.2g again the the leaves were left in the hot air oven for 5 minutes after cooling the weight was .483.3 again these leaves were left inside the hot air oven for 5 minutes and the result was same which was .483.3g so the loss on drying was calculated and the result was 16.1 % that means the leaves were containing around 85% of water
After the separation was done the leaves were shade dried inside a a room for around 5 days the leaves were evaluated properly the moisture content in the leaves were around 15% which was the optimum moisture content for the supplement
STEP:- 5
GRINDING
For the purpose of grinding, a mixer with a power output of 500 watts was employed. Dried nettle leaves with a moisture content of 15% per leaf were included in the mixture, and after being rotated at a speed of 15000 revolutions per minute for two minutes and powder of mix particle Size was collected for further processing
STEP :- 6
SIEVING
In regard to this innovation In order to get nettle powder with a moderately small particle size via the process of sieving, a sieve with a mesh number of 24 was used.
