DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[00014] Conventionally, in a straddle type two-wheeled vehicle such as a motorcycle type vehicle, various attempts have been made to ensure a layout space in which most of the electronic control unit (ECU) is packaged in a holder unit which is fixed to at least a portion of the vehicle frame. In a known two-wheeled vehicle, at least one electronic control unit (ECU) is mounted in a space defined between the pair of right and left main tubes in a manner operable from a side of the vehicle.
[00015] In another known arrangement for one or more electronic control units (ECUs) on the two-wheeled vehicle, said at least one electronic control unit (ECU) is packaged to the left side of the airfilter device along a vehicle width direction. However, the packaging of said one or more electronic control units (ECUs) on the left side of the airfilter requires more wire length because the wiring harness is routed through the right side of the airfilter along a frame main tube. Thus, the packaging of said at least one electronic control unit (ECU) to the airfilter left side results in serviceability problem for the airfilter device due to the presence of the bunch of plurality of wiring harnesses routed above the airfilter device.
[00016] Furthermore, in another known arrangement for the electronic control unit (ECU) on the two-wheeled vehicle, a holder unit adapted for housing said electronic control unit (ECU) therein comprises of one or more sleeves for securing the electronic control unit upon a vehicle. The one or more sleeves defines a receptacle and a plurality of extension portions. The receptacle is configured to receive at least a portion of the electronic control unit. Furthermore, the holder unit is detachably attached to a vehicle frame through at least one fastener including a screw mounting. Thus, the conventional arrangement of the holder unit on said at least a portion of the vehicle frame through said screw mounting is much sensitive to continuous vibrations caused by the vehicle's motion. Moreover, the electronic circuit unit housed therein is susceptible to damage from an impact force caused to the holder unit, thereby necessitating relatively high cost replacement of said one or more electronic control units (ECUs) for the vehicle.
[00017] However, the above described conventional arrangements for mounting said at least one electrical component including said one or more electronic control units (ECUs) upon the vehicle is overly complicated, bulky, expensive, and/or heavy, and can render the electronic control unit (ECU) susceptible to damage. Therefore, it is desirable to provide an improved structure for the holder unit for packaging said at least one electrical component therein, that can facilitate easy installation, packaging and removal of said at least one electrical component secured therein, thereby improving the maintainability and serviceability of said at least one electrical component without adversely affecting its running performance. Additionally, it is needed to provided a modified mounting mechanism for the holder unit on the vehicle frame which can dampen the vibrations effects and impacts caused during the vehicle’s motion and hence protects said at least one electrical component being housed therein from damage.
[00018] With the above objectives in view, the present invention relates to an improved structure for the holder unit adapted for the packaging of said at least one electrical component including the electronic control unit (ECU) therein. As per first, second and third embodiment of the present invention, the holder unit can be detachably secured to at least a portion of the vehicle frame through at least one mounting assembly, thereby resulting in vibration reduction, shortenening of the wiring harness and in addition ensuring effective performance and service life of said at least one electrical component including the electronic control unit (ECU).
[00019] Referring to first, second and third embodiment of the present invention, the motorcycle type vehicle comprises a frame extending along a vehicle longitudinal axis. The frame includes one or more mounting brackets fixedly attached to at least a portion thereof. In first, second and third embodiment, said vehicle further comprises at least one electrical component for controlling and monitoring one or more functions thereof and a holder unit adapted to support said at least one electrical component therein. The holder unit comprises said at least one supporting portion, at least one mounting portion and at least one open side. The holder unit is configured to slidably receive said at least one electrical component therein through said at least one open side. Referring to first, second and third embodiment, said at least one mounting portion is adapted for detachably securing said holder unit to at least a portion of said frame through at least one mounting assembly. In first, second and third embodiment, said at least one mounting assembly comprises of one or more mounting elements including a screw, a washer, a grommet and a spacer. Further said at least one mounting bracket being fixedly attached to at least a portion of said vehicle frame is configured to receive said one or more mounting elements for mounting said holder unit to said at least a portion of the frame. Further, said at least one supporting portion is integrally formed with said at least one mounting portion.
[00020] In first, second and third embodiment, said at least one supporting portion of said holder unit includes a base structure and a pair of side members extending outwardly from a peripheral edge of the base structure. As per first, second and third embodiment, said each of the pair of side walls includes at least one engaging member at an upper end edge and lower end edge thereof to secure said at least one electrical component in the holder unit.
[00021] In the present invention, said pair of side walls of said at least one supporting portion comprises said at least one engaging member including a snap fitting. The base structure of said at least one supporting portion comprises one or more securing elements including a hinge mechanism for securing said atleast one electrical component to said holder unit. Further, said at least one supporting portion comprises at least one retaining member configured for supporting said at least one electrical component in the holder unit through a rubber strap mounting.
[00022] Referring to first and second embodiment, said at least one holder unit is detachably mounted to said at least a portion of said frame defined by at least one mounting space provided between a centreline taken along a vehicle width direction and a rear frame portion of the vehicle frame. In first and second embodiment, said at least one mounting bracket being fixedly attached to at least a portion of said vehicle frame is configured to receive said one or more mounting elements for mounting said holder unit to said at least one mounting space.
[00023] As per third embodiment of the present invention, said holder unit is detachably secured to said rear frame portion of the vehicle frame. Particularly, as per third embodiment, said holder unit is detachably mounted to a pair of left and right laterally spaced seat rails onto which said seat assembly is disposed. Thus, as per third embodiment, said packaging of said at least one electrical component including the electronic control unit (ECU) in said holder unit being mounted on said pair of left and right laterally spaced seat rails and disposed below said seat assembly, can effectively avoid the influence of the high temperature, dampens the vibration effects and in addition prevents water entry to said at least one electrical component, thereby ensuring an improved performance and service life for said at least one electrical component.
[00024] It is advantageous to provide an improved structure for the holder unit of the motorcycle type vehicle, as per first, second and third embodiment of the present invention.
