Hollow Bodied Component And Method For Producing A Component Of This Type
Abstract: A hollow component comprising at least two shell elements (1, 2) made by die casting is proposed, which is suitable in particular for use as a steering system component in automotive chassis units. The hollow component is distinctive due to the fact that at least one connecting region (5, 6, 18, 19) is provided on the shell elements (1, 2) to be connected, and one connecting region (5) comprises at least a first contact region (7) with an essentially U-shaped cross-section disposed on the respective shell element (1), and the second connecting region comprises at least one web-shaped second contact region (8) on the respective other shell element (2) engaging in the gap of the U- shaped first contact region (7), and the connecting regions (5, 6,18,19) are non-positively cold-welded to one another by applying a pressing force (Fi, F2) that is higher than the separating force components (Fr) acting on the connecting regions (5,6,18,19) under operating conditions by a multiple. The invention further relates to a method of producing such a hollow component. The special design of the connecting regions (5, 6) in conjunction with the subsequent cold-welding in these regions results in a component that is inexpensive to produce and, by contrast with the prior art, enables additional weight-reducing aspects to be achieved due to the special adaptation of the wall thicknesses as part of the aluminium die casting process.
