The following Specification describes the nature of this invention :

This invention relates to an improved method of holography used in manufacturing the packaging materials by applying a two ply structure laminate instead of the traditional three ply structure laminate bearing exactly the same visual characteristics of the conventional holography.
Holography, is a method of production of the holograms. The hologram is a pattern that gives a three dimensional image when illuminated by a light source. Holography, is done on the packaging material to be further used in packaging various goods and commodities. Holography is also used on the credit cards, phone cards and recently even on the currency notes in some countries. The basic purpose of doing holography on the packaging material is to guarantee the nexus between packing material and the goods packed in the said packing material. The holography done on the packing materials helps in reducing the chances of packing and selling / distributing the inferior quality or duplicated substances in the same or similar looking packs. The origin of holography lies in the above i.e. in the instinct by the real or genuine packers to provide the real or genuine goods only to the end users under the packaged form.
The origin of art and process of holography begun in the year 1948. Traditionally, holography was achieved by the indirect means like hotstamping and transfer foil technology. Under this method a separate holographic film was used to put the holographic effects and the metallisation was done on the base film. Further, under this method a separate transfer film was required which would have the properties of maintaining the holographic effects on itself and of transferring the said holographic effects to the base film alongwith the metallisation. Further, During these days the lamination was not popular Considering the above, traditionally, the holography was very expensive, and hence the application of holography in the production / manufacturing of the packaging material was very rare.
-2-

During the course of time, the importance of holography was realized and subsequently some better and improvised methods of holography were developed.
In the process of development in the field of holography, various methods / processes were developed. Some of the methods fall under the category of printed laminates and the others are not having printed laminates. The processes / methods under the category of printed laminates are always superior to the other methods / processes, though they may be slightly lesser expensive. Similarly, these other methods have never reached to the level output and finishing which the methods / processes having printed laminates.
Currently, there are two basic printed laminate methods / processes of holography used in processing of the packaging materials.
Under the first and the most popular methods for doing holography on the packaging material, the laminates consists of a three ply structure. This method of holography is popularly known as, three ply reverse printed structure holography. The first or the top ply normally has some printed matter on the reverse side of the same. The second ply or the middle ply, consists of the holographic metallised film. Whereas, the third ply or the bottom ply is made up as the sealant layer. After combining / attaching all the above plies together in their desired order, the packaging material with holography is ready. Currently, this method is considered as the most adequate method of holography. Similarly, this the most accepted and practiced method of holography all over the world. The reason for the maximum acceptability of this method is, simplicity of the process of holography. However, this method of holography is not free from the shortcomings. The first disadvantage of this method of holography is that, it has three different plies and hence the resultant product i.e.
-3-

the packaging material has a thicker gsm. and secondly, the process of holography on the packaging materials under this method is quite lengthy as well as time consuming. Similarly considering the number of plies i.e. three used in this, this method becomes quite an expensive method.
Under another method for doing the holography on the packaging material, instead of three plies as mentioned under the earlier method, the laminate consists only of two plies. The top ply consists of the polyester or other film. On one side i.e. the bottom side of the said ply having, holographic substrate or holographic underlying layer / substance is there. Whereas, on the other side, or the top side there is the surface printed matter, same ply would have surface made up of the printed matter. The second ply is of the sealant layer. Under this method though the number of plies are reduced to two, there is one major disadvantage of this method i.e., the printing is on the surface of the top ply. As the printing is on the surface of the top ply, there are chances that, during the movement of the packs from one place to another, the printed substances or matters may get mutilated or spoiled. Similarly, the printed matters / substances are exposed directly to the open atmosphere, the same also may affect the durability of the printed matters / substances, like it may be erased or evaporated after lapse of some time period.
The object of the invention is to devise a simple, easy to apply, inexpensive and novel method of holography used in producing / creating the packaging material which is further used as the packaging material for the goods and substances by various industries.
-4-

To understand the underlying principle of this invention is as follows, let us examine a conventionally / currently used methods of the holography for the packaging material. Under the first and the most popular methods / process for doing holography on the packaging material, the laminates consists of a three ply structure. The first or the top ply normally has some printed matter on the reverse side of the same. The second ply consists of the holographic metallised film. Whereas, the third ply is made up as the sealant layer. After combining all the above plies together the packaging material with holography is ready. Under this method of holography, three different plies are used in making of the packaging material and hence the resultant product i.e. the packaging material has a thicker gsm. and similarly, the process of holography on the packaging materials under this method is quite lengthy as well as time consuming. Lastly, considering the number of plies i.e. three, used in this, this method becomes quite an expensive method of holography.
Under another method for doing the holography on the packaging material, instead of three plies as mentioned under the earlier method, the laminate consists only of two plies. The top ply consists of the polyester film. On one side i.e. the bottom side of the said ply having, holographic substrate or holographic underlying layer / substance is there. Whereas, on the other side or the top side there is the printed matter, same ply would have surface made up of the printed matter. The second ply is of the sealant layer. Under this method, the printing is on the surface of the top ply.

In the Invention under consideration, for doing holography on the packaging material, a two ply structure is used having all the beneficial features present in the three ply reverse printed structure. Under this method of holography, by using certain chemicals, the printing and the holography are combined and are done on the same substrate. On the bottom or the reverse side of the first ply or the top ply by using some specific and sophisticated chemicals, a reverse printing and reverse holography is done on the packaging material. Further, after metallisation, it is laminated to the sealant poly layer. Because of the reverse holography and reverse printing on the same substrate, only two ply structure is created, one for the holography & printing and the other is for sealant. Consequently, the gsm for the packaging material is reduced substantially. Similarly, the time consumed in the printing and holography on the packaging material is also minimized. Further , as the number of piles are reduced, the cost of manufacturing also becomes effective. Further, as there is reverse printing i.e. the printing is not on the surface of the top ply, the chances that, during the movement of the packs from one place to another, the printed substances or matters may get mutilated or spoiled are minimized. Lastly, as the printed matters / substances are not directly exposed to the open air or the open atmosphere, the same may not get affected by open air or atmosphere, consequently, the chances erosion or evaporation of the printed matters / substances are minimized.
The Invention :
The method / process so invented is a simple, novel and cost effective / inexpensive means used for holography on the packaging material.
-6-

It employs the sophisticated the chemicals and a combination of the printing & holography is done on the same substrate of the top ply by doing reverse printing & reverse holography, with reverse metallisation and then laminated to sealant poly layer.
In the present invention some sophisticated & specialized chemicals are used for the printing, the holography in making of the packaging material. The bottom ply or layer is made up of sealant poly.
As mentioned in the paragraph above by using certain sophisticated & specialized chemicals, the printing and the holography are combined and are done on the same substrate. On the bottom or the reverse side of the first ply or the top ply by using some specific, specialized and sophisticated chemicals, a reverse printing and reverse holography is done on the packaging material. Further, a reverse metallisation and then lamination is done to the sealant poly layer. Because of the reverse holography and reverse printing on the same substrate, only two ply structure is created, one for the holography & printing and the other is for sealant.
The distinctive novelty is that this method / process, for doing holography on the packaging material, a two ply structure is used having all the beneficial features that are present in the three ply reverse printed structure.
This system is superior to the current practices where, under the first most popular process / method for doing holography on the packaging material (popularly known world wide as three ply laminates), the laminates consists of a three ply structure. The first or the top ply normally has some printed matter on the reverse side of the same. The second ply consists of the holographic metallised film. Whereas, the third ply is made up as the sealant layer. After combining all the above plies together the

packaging material with holography is ready. OR
under the second popular method / process of holography for doing holography on the packaging material, the laminate consists only of two plies only.
Whereas under the method / process of holography under consideration all the above shortcomings of the current methods are taken care of. Also apart from making the structure of two ply has all the beneficial features present in the three ply reverse printed structure. Further, the gsm for the packaging material is reduced substantially. Similarly, the time consumed in the printing and holography on the packaging material is also minimized. Further , as the number of piles are reduced, the cost of manufacturing also becomes effective. Further, as there is reverse

printing i.e. the printing is not on the surface of the top ply, the chances that, during the movement of the packs from one place to another, the printed substances or matters may get mutilated or spoiled are minimized. Lastly, as the printed matters / substances are not directly exposed to the open air or the open atmosphere, the same may not get affected by open air or atmosphere, consequently, the chances erosion or evaporation of the printed matters / substances are minimized.
