, Description:Title of invention
HORN JAMMING DEVICE TO REDUCE NOISE POLLUTION

Field of invention
The present invention relates to field of automobile. More specifically the invention relates to vehicles horn. This device will remotely block or limit the vehicles horn sound to reduce noise pollution in desired location by using of remote switching technology.

Background
Atmospheric pollution is not the only type of contamination that is harming living beings on the planet. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) noise pollution is one of the most dangerous environmental threats to health. It is invisible threat present around us. Noise pollution is considered as any unwanted or disturbing sound that affects the health of humans and other living creatures. According to the European Environment Agency (EEA) noise pollution is responsible for 16,600 premature deaths and more than 72,000 hospitalisations every year in Europe alone. Constant loud noise can affects human health in many ways. Some of the common problems caused by noise pollution are deafness, racing pulse, high blood pressure, headaches and heart attacks. Not only does it hurt humans, it is also very bad for animals too. According to the National Park Service (NPS) in the United States, noise pollution has an enormous environmental impact and does serious damage to wildlife. Expert says noise pollution can interfere with breeding cycles and hastening the extinction of some species.
As the numbers of vehicles on road are increasing day by day, the noise pollution caused by their horn is also increasing in same ratio. It is very common road scenario where driver blows horn for no reason that disturbs pedestrians, other drivers and animals as well. There are many sources of noise pollution, but traffic noise accounts for most polluting noise in cities. Honking in traffic is one of the major contributors of noise pollution, for example a car horn produces 90 dB and a bus horn produces 100 dB sounds. Not all sound is considered as a noise pollution, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) the sound above 65 decibel (dB) is considered as noise pollution. The scale used to measure intensity or loudness of sound is known as “Decibel”, represented as “dB”. To understand the decibel scale some examples are 0 dB is silent, whispering makes 10 dB, a normal conversation has 30-40 dB, factory machinery produced 80 dB and the highest value goes up to 180 dB that will be extremely painful to hear as it may damage the ear drums and may cause immediate heart attack. The response of any living being’s ear depends on frequency of sound. Human ear can detect 20Hz to 20000Hz of sound frequency. The unit used to measure the frequency of sound waves is known as Hertz (Hz).
In a vehicle most common noise is produced by the engine and exhaust, that has been reduced by use of efficient exhaust muffler and sound deadening insulations but horns are one of the major contributors to noise pollution. Some countries are already working on solutions to reduce noise pollution and one of the solution is horn should be designed in a way that it should not produce sound beyond a specified dB limit. For example in India the permissible limit is in between 60 db to 100 dB. According to world health organisation the horns of vehicles should be 45 dB at night and 55 dB at day.
In the market wide variety of horns are available some are designed to produce sound within permissible limit set by governments and some of them are designed illegally to produce very loud sound. It has been observed that even if the horns are designed to produce low sound that will still cause noise pollution and the reason is multiple numbers of vehicles are always present on road. Their combined result of honking will produces adequate sound to cause noise pollution and it cam affects human’s health. It is very common road scenario when driver blows horn for no reason in high traffic even they know that their honking will not be able to clear the traffic in anyway. Unnecessary and unwanted honking is a behavioural problem that is somehow difficult to implement in short period of time but definitely this can be improved by proper education and awareness and this may takes time.
The invented proposed device will help to reduce noise pollution in high traffic or any desired location by disabling the vehicle’s horn remotely. Horn will not work in that particular area even if the driver will press the horn switch. The proposed invented device has two parts one is transmitter and second is receiver. The transmitter is a device that can be installed in any desired location where horn sound is not expected or horn prohibited zone. Receiver will be fitted in vehicle. For example if a transmitter is installed in a high traffic crossway road then nearby vehicles horn will not work, if they are equipped with receiver device. Basic illustration of working can be seen in figure 5. In simple words vehicles horn can be remotely disabled in that particular area.
We cannot ignore the fact that horn is a safety device and sometimes it becomes mandatory to use. By taking care of this point the receiver device is designed in a way that we can connect a low sound horn with it, so instead of completely disabling the vehicles originally fitted horn (loud horn), a low sound horn will work. Whenever horn switch is pressed and this sound will be enough to alert nearby pedestrians without disturbing others and without producing loud noise.
“An invention named as V- Horn, publication number WO/2017/144960 is a device designed to reduce noise pollution by replacing conventional horn with a wireless communication device. This V-Horn device works on the principle of wireless transmission of modulated signal. Usually the sound produced by horns travel through the air and our ear receives the high decibel sound as it is. Here the sound signal is superimposed into a radio carrier wave and it travels between the transmitter antenna and receiver antenna in the modulated form. Thus only a beep sound is produced from the receiver fixed near the steering. So it does not irritate anyone”.

Many different types of proposals have been advanced to reduce noise pollution. One common solution is replacing the vehicles horn with musical horn that can produce sample of music of different songs. Other is electronic horns that can produce low or high pitched sound. Disadvantage encountered with current method is as millions of vehicles are present on road it is somehow difficult to replace their horns and also it may be very expensive.

However, there are various technologies or devices or process available to reduce honking noise pollution but there is no evidence that prior arts are effective to serve the purpose of noise pollution reduction efficiently, Further, there is no such devices or techniques is available to block honking sound of vehicles remotely. Further, there is no such devices or techniques is available that can work automatically to reduce honking noise pollution.
Therefore, there is a need of a horn jamming device to block unwanted honking noise to reduce noise pollution that is easy to install and inexpensive. Further, there is a need of a device that can limit the sound of horn by disabling originally fitted loud horn and instead of that a low sound horn will work automatically.

Objects of the invention
• It is a general object of the present disclosure is to reduce noise pollution produced by vehicles horn.
• It is another object of the present disclosure is to prevent humans’ health related problem caused of vehicles horn noise.
• It is another object of the present disclosure is to create a comfortable environment for all living beings by reducing unwanted honking noise.

Summary
The proposed invention relates to field of automobile. More specifically the invention relates to vehicles horn. This proposed device can disable the vehicles horn remotely to reduced noise pollution.
Noise pollution caused by vehicles horn is a major concern as the numbers of vehicles on road are increasing day by day. It is very common road scenario where driver blows horn for no reason that disturbs pedestrians, other drivers and animals as well. Even in horn prohibited zones such as hospitals and educational institutes unwanted honking can be observed as honking is a behavioural issue. If only few vehicles are present then it will have no major impact but in case if numerous vehicles are present then their combined honking will produce enough noise to affect humans health and may cause problems like irritation, deafness, high blood pressure and may cause heart attack.
Also this device can be installed in places where traffic is higher than usual where use of horn is not required at all but very high noise can be observed by random blowing of horns. Honking is a behavioural problem that can be overcome by proper education and awareness programs and this may takes time. The proposed device will help to reduce unwanted honking noise. This device works on the principle of remote switching. Remote switching is a technology that permits operation of switching on or off to any device remotely without any physical contact. For example a television can be switched on and switched off by remote control and this operation can be done by transfer of some signal through infrared light present in both remote and television. Similarly the invented device has two parts one is transmitter and other is receiver and it works on radio signals. Transmitter can be stationary device that can be placed at any desired location. It will continuously emit radio signals in all direction. The receiver device will be installed in all vehicles. Receiver device is designed to receive radio signal which is transmitted by transmitter. Whenever a vehicle fitted with receiver device comes near transmitter then it will receive that radio signals. After that receiver’s internal circuit will temporarily disable the horn though an internal relay and horn will not work even if the horn switch is pressed and this operation will be continued till the vehicle is within transmitter’s range. Once vehicle goes out of transmitter’s range then normal horn operation will be continued.
Sometimes vehicle’s horn plays an important role to avoid accident or collision, horns is meant to alert pedestrian and nearby vehicles.

In short the receiver device has two variant that is
• First variant will temporarily disable vehicles originally fitted horn.
• And second variant will temporarily disable vehicles originally fitted horn and instead of that a low sound horn will work that can produce minimal sound to alert nearby pedestrians and other vehicles. In this way noise pollution can be reduced and pedestrians and other vehicles can be alerted.
The proposed transmitter device can have a system that can detect the noise level and depending upon that it can be switched on or switched off automatically. For example if noise level near transmitter is detected above 85 decibel then it will be activated automatically in order to disable nearby vehicles horn to reduce noise pollution. We can predetermine decibel limit to activate the transmitter. By this feature we will have control on honking noise pollution.

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to the vehicles. The proposed device can temporarily disable or limit the sound of horn to reduce noise pollution. The device comprising of RF transmitter and receiver module, relay, integrated chip, resistor, capacitor and inductor and other electronic components.
In an aspect, the proposed device has two major parts namely transmitter and receiver. The device works on the principle of remote switching through radio waves. The receiver device can be installed in vehicles that will control the horn circuit. Here the transmitter device can act as a switch. Whenever transmitter will be active then it will give signal to receiver though radio waves. When signal is received by the receiver then internal circuit of receiver will disable the horn though a relay. While in operation the transmitter will be active all the time and it will emit radio signals that can travel the distance let’s say for example 50 meter. Whenever vehicles fitted with receiver device comes within 50 meter of transmitter then receiver will receive that radio signal and vehicles horn will be inoperative till the vehicle is within transmitter’s range or till the receiver is receiving radio signals.
In an aspect, the proposed transmitter device can have a system that can detect the noise level and depending upon that it can be switched on or switched off automatically. For example if noise level near transmitter is detected above 80 decibel then it will be activated automatically in order to disable nearby vehicles horn to reduce noise pollution.
In an aspect, the proposed receiver device can have an additional low decibel horn, When vehicles originally fitted loud horn becomes inoperative in the presence of transmitter signal then a low decibel horn will work that can produce minimal and enough sound to alert nearby traffic and pedestrians.
Figure - 1 illustrates exemplary proposed transmitter device, in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure.
In an embodiment, the transmitter device (10) is designed to produce radio signals. The transmitter (TX) circuit can include microcontroller, oscillator, encoder chip, signal amplifier and other electronic components. The microcontroller inside receiver device can generate digital codes that can be mixed with frequency of oscillator and transmitted in the air through antenna (11). The distance covered by radio waves depends on type of antenna (11) being used, power input and frequency. This can be changed depending upon application. The transmitter (10) device can be powered with rechargeable battery that can be charged by solar panel (13) or any other power source.
In an embodiment, the proposed transmitter (10) device can have a noise level detector (14) that can detect noise level around it and depending upon level of noise the transmitter (10) device can be switched on or off automatically. For example if noise level near transmitter is detected above 85 decibel (can be changed) then it will be activated automatically in order to disable nearby vehicles horn to reduce noise pollution.
Figure - 2 illustrates exemplary proposed receiver device, in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure.
In an embodiment, the proposed receiver (20) is designed to receive radio signals. The receiver (RX) circuit can include microcontroller, oscillator, decoder chip, signal amplifier and other electronic components. The antenna (21) in receiver device can receive radio signal that is transmitted by transmitter (10). The received radio signal has digital codes whose validity is checked in decoder chip. If the codes are found valid then a relay (23) is actuated. To understand further process we need to understand basics construction of a relay. Relays are electrically operated switches that can open and close the circuits by receiving electrical signals from outside sources. The relay used in receiver device is a 5 pin (normally closed also known as NC relay) relay (23). Pins are named as a, b, c, d, e in Figure 2. Where pin a and b is known as coil. When current flows through this coil then it acts as a electromagnet. Pin d is moving contact that can either touch pin c or pin e. In normal condition pin c and d is always in contact and pin d and e is unconnected. When current flows through the coil then relay is said to be active, in this condition the electromagnet coil attracts the pin d and force it to touch the pin e. In active condition of relay the pin c and d will be disconnected and pin d and e will be connected. Output of the relay pins (24) will be connected to vehicles horn.
Figure - 3 illustrates exemplary proposed 1st variant of receiver device linked with vehicles wiring, in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure.
In an embodiment, the proposed 1st variant of receiver is shown linked with vehicle’s wiring, proposed 1st variant of receiver is designed to disable the horn (35) function. Vehicle’s internal wiring is represented as 36 and body ground as 38 in figure 3. In normal condition in the absence of transmitter signal the relay (23) will be inactive and pin c and d will remain in contact thus making closed circuit for horn (35) to work normally but in the presence of transmitter signal the relay (23) will be active and pin c and d will be disconnected and remains disconnected until the receiver (20) is receiving radio signals from transmitter (10) and horn (35) will not work when horn switch (37) is pressed. In the 1st variant of proposed device the pin e from relay can be kept unused.
In an embodiment, the proposed 1st variant of receiver can be powered from same source as horn is receiving. The operating voltage of receiver device can be in the range of 5-9 volt but the available voltage is 12 volt (v+ and v-) or in case of heavy vehicles it is more than 12 volt. The available voltage can be reduced to usable limit by using of a voltage converter (34) to power the receiver.
Figure - 4 illustrates exemplary proposed 2nd variant of receiver device linked with vehicle’s wiring with an additional feature of low decibel horn, in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure.
In an embodiment, the proposed 2nd variant of receiver is shown linked with vehicle’s wiring, it is designed to disable the vehicle’s originally fitted horn and instead of that a low decibel horn will work. Working principle of the 2nd variant of device can be similar to 1st variant as mentioned and detailed in Figure 3 except the feature of addition of a low decibel horn in relay pin e, which was kept unused in variant 1. In normal condition in the absence of transmitter (10) signal the relay will be inactive and pin c and d will remain in contact thus making closed circuit for horn and it will work normally but in the presence of transmitter signal the relay will be active and pin c and d will be disconnected and pin d and pin e will come in contact thus making a closed circuit with supply voltage (12v) to additional low decibel horn (45) and ground terminal (38). In this condition when horn switch is pressed then vehicles originally fitted horn (35) will not work and additionally added low decibel horn (45) will work that will produce lower sound than originally fitted horn (35) and minimal to alert nearby traffic or pedestrian. The 2nd variant of proposed device (21) will serve multiple purposes of alerting nearby traffic with reduced honking noise.
Figure - 5 illustrates exemplary proposed transmitter and receiver device applications and its basic working principle, in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure.
In an embodiment, the basic application of proposed device is illustrated. A transmitter (TX) is installed in hospital premises so that no honking noise will disturb patients in the hospital. Transmitter is active and transmitting radio waves (5A) represented by dashed circle in Figure 5. Two vehicles (5B and 4C) equipped with 1st variant of receiver device, passing a hospital in a highway (5D). When a vehicle (5B) comes within transmitter’s range then its receiver will receive radio signals from transmitter. After successfully receiving and validation check of radio signal a relay will be actuated through which vehicle’s horn is connected and horn will not work. Once vehicle goes out of transmitter range then normal horn operation can be continued. A vehicle (5C) is outside range of transmitter and its horn can work normally which is far away from hospital.
