condition]
• Charging Mode: Battery Charging
The backhoe loader as described herein, due to its unique construction,
compact integration of its components including hybrid engine-electric motor
assembly and novel control/regulation of its functionality, provides a reliable,
efficient, cost-effective alternatives to traditional drive train systems used in
such machines.
3
Background and object of the invention:
A conventional backhoe loader is a heavy construction equipment vehicle,
particularly having a traditional tractor type base vehicle; wherein it is fitted
with a loader-style shovel/bucket on the front side and a backhoe on the back
side.
Backhoe loaders are very common and can be used for a wide variety of tasks:
construction, small demolitions, light transportation of building materials,
powering building equipment, digging holes/excavation, landscaping, breaking
asphalt, and paving roads. Often, the backhoe bucket can also be replaced with
powered attachments such as a breaker, grapple, auger, or a stump grinder.
Single vehicle like machine, which is capable of moving forward/backward and
performing operations like digging and loading at its both sides, is considered
as most versatile construction equipment for urban engineering. This type of
machine is similar to and derived from what is now known as a TLB (TractorLoader-Backhoe), which is to say, an agricultural tractor fitted with a front
loader and rear backhoe attachment.
With the technological advancement, it is the demand of the age to renovate
conventional backhoe loader machines towards making it more fuel efficient
and eco-friendly, more purpose specific, and more dependent on nonconventional power source(s).
There may be few hybrid Backhoe loader known; however, this is relatively new
area of interest to the manufacturing companies and persons skilled in the art.
More research is required to develop effective, safe and functionally reliable
4
backhoe loader, which is one of the most complex heavy construction
equipment frequently used in urban areas.
Prime object of the present invention is a novel effort to provide a hybrid
backhoe loader, comprising a newly designed driveline assembly, is capable of
performing all its functions effectively in any of the following modes of power
transmission, preferably optionally selected:
• Engine Only Mode: Driving
• Engine + Motor/Battery Mode: Driving
• Engine + Motor/Battery Mode: Hydraulic Operations
• Motor/Battery Only Mode: Hydraulic Operations [In machine stationary
condition]
• Charging Mode: Battery Charging
Another object of the present invention is to provide a fuel efficient hybrid
Backhoe loader, wherein the engine assembly is so designed that it can
function in close relation with another power source and support functioning of
all components, namely vehicle-driving and controls thereof, backhoe-side
functions involving hydraulic mechanism and the loader side operations using
the hydraulic systems thereof, without affecting the formal functioning of said
hybrid backhoe loader.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a preferred embodiment of
the hybrid backhoe loader, as disclosed herein, wherein the engine is selected
at ~50HP and power is boosted in the range of 75 to 80HP by hybrid system,
5
adopted therein, which includes electric motor, battery and power electronic
systems.
Description of the invention:
The present invention is to provide a fuel efficient hybrid Backhoe loader,
wherein the engine assembly is so designed that it can function in close
relation with another power source and support functioning of all components,
namely vehicle-driving and controls thereof, backhoe-side functions involving
hydraulic mechanism and the loader side operations using the hydraulic
systems thereof, without affecting the formal functioning of said hybrid
backhoe loader.
The preferred embodiment of the hybrid backhoe loader, as disclosed herein,
wherein the engine is selected at ~50HP and power is boosted in the range of
75 to 80HP by hybrid system, adopted therein, which includes electric motor,
battery and power electronic systems.
Short details of the drawings, which indicate/illustrate the hybrid backhoe
loader machine, its novel construction, and mode of functioning involving its
novel engine-driveline assembly:

of the instant hybrid backhoe loader, particularly assembled within the
driver’s/operator’s cabin thereof;
Figure 3: Complete schematic view of the driveline assembly of the
present hybrid backhoe loader;
Figure 4: Schematic plan for selecting mode of function of the hybrid
backhoe loader involving its driveline and power transmission thereof.
The hybrid backhoe loader of the present invention, comprising a newly
designed driveline assembly, is capable of performing all its functions
effectively in any of the following modes of power transmission, preferably
optionally selected:
• Engine Only Mode: Driving
• Engine + Motor/Battery Mode: Driving
• Engine + Motor/Battery Mode: Hydraulic Operations
• Motor/Battery Only Mode: Hydraulic Operations [In machine stationary
condition]
• Charging Mode: Battery Charging
Said engine and driveline assembly receives power from two sources: from the
fuel burning engine and/or electric power generated/stored in the said
Backhoe Loader.
The invention generally relates to the engine and driveline assembly used in a
hybrid backhoe loader; wherein the said engine and driveline assembly receives
power from two sources: from the fuel burning engine and/or electric power
generated/stored in the said Backhoe Loader. Said engine and driveline
7
