Gear Shifting Arrangement For A Motor Vehicle

Abstract: The invention a gear shifting arrangement for a motor vehicle comprising a micro controller electrically coupled to a DC motor which in turn is coupled mechanically to the gearing~ the said micro controller being actuated by controls operated manually, such that when the controls are actuated, the micro controller constrains the DC motor to rotate precisely to a predetermined point or points necessary for effecting a corresponding gear change.

Specification

This invention relates to a gear shifting arrangement for a motor vehicle, more particularly, though not exclusively, for two wheelers and three wheelers where the gear changing controls are hand operated or foot operated. Of course this invention can also be used in other motor vehicles as well, to which this invention is applicable.
Hand operated controls for gear changing are connected to the gearing of the vehicle by cables and linkages which require substantial effort in twisting the wrist from time to time. Foot operated controls are operated by the foot. This is also a case where manual effort is called into play from time to time.
In present day traffic such manual operation of the controls leaves the user, at the end of the day, tired and irritated at the frequent number of hand and foot related exercise he will have to resign himself to. It is therefore an object of this invention to propose a gear shifting arrangement which enable the user to carry out gear shifting effortlessly, with no strain on his body.
The gear shifting arrangement, according to this invention, comprises a micro controller electrically coupled to DC motor which in turn is coupled mechanically to the gearing, the said micro controller being actuated by controls operated manually, such that when the controls are actuated, the micro controller constrains the DC motor to rotate precisely to a predetermined point or points necessary for effecting a corresponding gear change.
The DC motor is powered by the power source provided for the vehicle such as the battery with which the vehicle may be provided or a separate DC source.
Reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which illustrate, by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of possible embodiments of the invention.
A micro controller M is connected to a DC motor E. The motor E is coupled to the gearing G.
»
A plurality of control buttons B are provided for the micro controller M. The controls are manually operated through known gear shift cables and linkages Q or by known gear operating pedals P or hand operated levers
When the gear shift controls are used, the microcontroller M constrains the DC motor E to rotate precisely to a predetermined point or points necessary for effecting a corresponding gear change.
It will be appreciated that various other embodiment of this invention are possible without departing from the scope and ambit thereof.

We Claim:
1. A gear shifting arrangement for a motor vehicle comprising a micro controller electrically coupled to a DC motor which in turn is coupled mechanically to the gearing, the said micro controller being actuated by controls operated manually, such that when the controls are actuated, the micro controller constrains the DC motor to rotate precisely to a predetermined point or points necessary for effecting a corresponding gear change.
2. A gear shifting arrangement as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the DC motor is powered by the power source provided for the vehicle
such as the battery with which the vehicle may be provided or a separate DC source.
3. A gear shifting arrangement as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the controls are manually operated through known gear shift cables and linkages or by known gear operating pedals or hand operated levers
4. A gear shifting arrangement for a motor vehicle substantially as herein described with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings.
