Abstract: This invention relates to improved joining method of side body outer panel and improved shape of side body outer panel comprising mounting of front door hinges, cowl side outer member and door wiring harness directly onto the Reinf, front door hinge, provision of resistance spot welding between side body outer panel and reinf, front door hinge along the joining and application of spot sealant. It is associated with the following advantageous features:- Weight reduction in Side body outer panel, Easy manufacturing of Side Body Outer Panel as it has open section in Hinge Pillar area, Cost effective and Fuel efficient.
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to improved joining method of side body outer panel and
improved shape of side body outer panel.
PRIOR ART
In vehicles, the typical Hinge pillar section is provided wherein Side Body Outer i
Panel is welded with Reinf, Front Door Hinge & Panel and Dash Side. Front Door
Hinges, Fender Panel, Door Harness & Cowl Side Outer member are mounted onto
Side Body Outer Panel.

The Side body outer panel is welded with Reinf, FR Door Hinge & Panel & Dash
Side in both the ends of Hinge Pillar box section. Front Door hinges & Cowl Side I
Outer Member are mounted on to the Side body outer panel. Because of this, the i
Side Body Outer panel is heavier. This makes the vehicle less fuel efficient and
also adds to its cost.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide improved side body outer
panel for weight reduction of vehicle which overcomes disadvantages associated with the i
i prior arts.
Another object of the present invention is to provide improved side body outer panel for i
weight reduction of vehicle which results in weight reduction of vehicle. i
i Further object of the present invention is to provide improved side body outer panel for i
weight reduction of vehicle manufacturing of which is easy. ,

the Reinf, front door hinge, provision of resistance spot welding between side body
outer panel and reinf, front door hinge along the joining and application of spot
sealant.

In the above drawings * indicates Resistance Spot welding and
indicates Sealant.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS:
The conventional vehicle is indicated in fig. 1. In vehicles, the typical Hinge pillar
section is provided as shown in Fig.2 & 3, wherein Side Body Outer Panel is welded
with Reinf, Front Door Hinge & Panel and Dash Side. Front Door Hinges, Fender
Panel, Door Harness & Cowl Side Outer member are mounted onto Side Body
Outer Panel (Fig 2 & 3).
The Side body outer panel is welded with Reinf, FR Door Hinge & Panel & Dash
Side in both the ends of Hinge Pillar box section as shown in Fig.2 & 3. Front Door
hinges & Cowl Side Outer Member are mounted on to the Side body outer panel.
Because of this, the Side Body Outer panel is heavier.
The vehicle comprising of Panel, Dash Side (I), Panel, Cowl upper (2)) Panel, Front
Door inner (3)) Panel, Cowl top side (4)) Panel, Front door outer (5), Panel, side
body outer (6), Reinf, Front door hinge (7)) Hinge, FR Door Upper (8), Panel, Front
Fender (9) provided in connection with each other as shown in fig. 1A.
Fig 2 and 3 indicates the following:-
Panel, Dash side (I), Panel Front Door Outer (5)) Side body outer (6), Reinf, Front
Door Hinge (7)) Hinge Comp. Front Door Upper (8)) Panel, Front Fender (9))
Member, Cowl side outer (C) and Hinge Comp, Front Door Lower (D).
For addressing the drawbacks associated with the prior art, the present invention
discloses improved side body outer panel for weight reduction of vehicle.
Improved joining method of side body outer panel (3) with reinf, front door hinge
(1) comprising mounting of front door hinges (I), cowl side outer member (2) and
door wiring harness directly onto the Reinf, front door hinge (1) as shown .in
sectional view ( fig. 5 and 6). This avoids mounting of front door hinges (1)) cowl
side outer member (2) and door wiring harness onto side body outer panel (3))
thereby reducing weight of said side body outer panel (3). Further, fig. 5 and 6
indicates the following:
Panel, dash side - PI
Panel, front door outer - P2
Panel, front fender - P3
Hinge comp, front door upper - HU
Hinge comp, front door lower - HL
The shape of side body outer panel is modified as shown in fig. 4 indicating fender
mounting in side body outer (F). The side body outer (3) and reinf, front door hinge
(1) are welded followed by sealing before hinge comp. front door upper (H) to make
it open section. So that, weight is reduced. Further, it facilitates manufacturing of
the side body outer.
Thus, it is required to provide an additional resistance spot welding between side
body outer panel and reinf, front door hinge along the joining as shown in fig. 5
and 6.
Further, additional spot sealant is applied at the joining edge of side body outer
panel with reinf, front door hinge. This facilitates manufacturing of side body outer
panel as it has open section in hinge pillar area.
Thus, in order to reduce the weight of Side Body Outer Panel, the shape of the
panel & joining method with Reinf, FR door hinge are subjected to modification.
The joining method with Reinf, Front Door Hinge is shown in the fig. 5 and 6. Here
the Front Door Hinges, Cowl side outer member & door wiring harness are
mounted directly onto the Reinf, Front Door Hinge as shown in section (Fig. 5 and
6). The spot sealer is applied on the edge of side body outer. The Fender panel is
mounted directly onto side body outer panel for better fit and finish of assembly
parts. Finally, this invention leads to weight reduction as well as easier
manufacturing of Side Body Outer Panel.
Advantageous features
1. Weight reduction in Side body outer panel.
2. Easy manufacturing of Side Body Outer Panel as it has open section in
Hinge Pillar area.
3. Cost effective.
4. Fuel efficient.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations
and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the
concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present
invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-
WE CLAIM:
1. Improved joining method of side body outer panel and improved shape of
side body outer panel comprising mounting of front door hinges, cowl side
outer member and door wiring harness directly onto the Reinf, front door
hinge, provision of resistance spot welding between side body outer panel
and reinf, front door hinge along the joining and application of spot sealant.
2. Improved joining method of side body outer panel and improved shape of
side body outer panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein the additional spot
sealant is applied at the joining edge of side body outer panel with reinf,
front door hinge.
3. Improved joining method of side body outer panel and improved shape of
side body outer panel as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the
side body outer and reinf, front door hinge are welded followed by sealing
before hinge comp. front door upper to make it open section.
4. Improved joining method of side body outer panel and improved shape of
side body outer panel as claimed in any of the preceding claims is associated
with the advantageous features such as herein described.
5. Improved joining method of side body outer panel and improved shape of
side body outer panel substantially as herein described with reference to the
accompanying drawings.
