Abstract: This invention relates generally to a starter assembly. More particularly the invention relates to an improved starter assembly. An improved starter assembly comprising a star contactor (1); a delta contactor (2); a relay (3); a hold on contactor (4); a timer (5); and a plurality of terminal blocks (6,7,8); wherein said assembly is horizontally positioned and said terminal block (8) is adapted to perform switching operation and providing supply for actuation of external devices. TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates generally to a starter assembly. More particularly the invention relates to an improved starter assembly for a specific compressor application.
BACKGROUND AND THE PRIOR ART
Starters are commonly used in electrical system. Generally starters have a vertical assembly of components due to which its height is considerably large and therefore requires a large vertical space for mounting.
CN2636499 discloses an integrated star delta motor starter belonging to the technical field of starting device, which mainly adopts a static iron core combined with a coil and then arranged into a shell. A moveable iron core is connected with connecting rods. A moveable contact is supported by a spring and arranged between connecting rods to adsorb the moveable iron core and make the moveable contact move up and down along the moveable iron core, thus switching off the moveable contact with the static contact. The utility model has the advantages of compact and rational structure, small mounting cubage, lower mounting cost, simple and convenient wiring, and unreliable motor operation prevention due to wiring error, easy maintenance and convenient operation and adds an intelligent control connected with a RS485 interface. However, provision for incorporating an external NC connection and single phase supply were not known in the prior art.
Thus, there is a need to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art. There is a need of starter with reduced height and user friendly layout of interior assembly. Therefore, the improved starter assembly developed by the present inventors provides a starter with reduced height and provision for incorporating an external NC connection and a single phase supply.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
A basic object of the present invention is to overcome the disadvantages/drawbacks of the known art.
Another object is to provide an improved starter assembly for a specific compressor application.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved user friendly layout of starter assembly along with provision for incorporating an external NC connection and single phase supply.
Another object of the present invention is to provide for a horizontal layout of components.
Another object of the present invention is to provide starter assembly integrating a pressure switch and a solenoid valve of said compressor thereby facilitating automatic operation of said compressor.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a starter assembly having reduced height.
These and other advantages of the present invention will become readily apparent from the following detailed description read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
There is provided an improved starter assembly.
According to one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided An improved starter assembly for a specific compressor application comprising a star contactor (1); a delta contactor (2); a relay (3); a hold on contactor (4); a timer (5); and a plurality of terminal blocks (6,7,8), said terminal block (8) is adapted to perform switching operation and providing supply for actuation of external devices; wherein said starter assembly integrating a pressure switch and a solenoid valve of said compressor thereby facilitating automatic operation of said compressor.

The following drawings are illustrative of particular examples for enabling methods of the present invention, are descriptive of some of the methods, and are not intended to limit the scope of the invention. The drawings are not to scale (unless so stated) and are intended for use in conjunction with the explanations in the following detailed description.
Reference is first invited to Fig 1 where the internal assembly of starter is shown. It shows a star contactor (1); a delta contactor (2); a relay (3); a hold on contactor (4); a timer (5) etc.
The invention therefore provides an improved starter assembly for a specific compressor application.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly in the present invention there is provided an improved starter assembly. The improved starter assembly is a simplified horizontal arrangement of the components. As shown in figure 1, the horizontal layout of the starter interior assembly comprises star contactor (1), delta contactor (2), relay (3), hold on contactor (4), timer (5), terminal block for supply (6), terminal block for motor connection (7), and terminal block external 'NC and single phase supply (8).
Figure 1 shows the layout which is showing the horizontal positioning of star contactor, delta contactor, hold on contactor, relay and timer. The terminal block 6 is provided for input supply and terminal block 7 is the output supply of the starter where motor terminals are connected. Terminal block 8 is provided for external 'NC connection and single phase supply.
The improved starter assembly is a simplified horizontal arrangement of the components in star delta starter resulting in reduced height unlike the other starters with vertical arrangement. There is an additional provision for incorporating the external 'NC and single phase supply of the starter.
The simplified horizontal design layout of the starter gives the freedom to customer for using it in the panel or in the industries where vertical design layout of starter cannot be mounted due to insufficient vertical space. Design intends to provide a user friendly layout of interior assembly for the industrial environment.
Apart from reduced height and user friendly layout the starter also has the provision for incorporating the external 'NC' This provision is made such that with the help of the external 'NC' the starter can be switched 'ON' and 'OFF'. Also an additional provision for single phase supply has been made available. This single phase supply provision can be used for actuation of external devices like electromagnet device, valve, indicating device.
This starter is developed for specific compressor application. The automatic operation of compressor depends on its pressure switch and solenoid valve application. So there is a need to integrate these two with starter for automatic operation. So for compressor application, in the starter, in built scope for using pressure switch and solenoid valve is incorporated. It reduces the wiring hazards and chances of wiring and assembly error at customer end. So connecting a pressure switch or solenoid valve to this starter for required compressor application is the most user friendly procedure available in the market.
Further to reduce the space required and for compact design solution the starter layout is designed in a manner, so that it can be mounted on a compressor cylinder. In industrial practice starter is mounted on wall or on isolated places. But here a compact layout design is provided, so that the compressor along with its starter can be used as a single compact unit. It can be treated or shifted elsewhere as a single unit, so reducing hazards of reinstallation of starter and rewiring for the required application.
ADVANTAGES:
1. As all the components are horizontally placed, height of the panel can be significantly reduced.
2. Provision for incorporating external 'NC contact is provided. This is an additional safety feature as the starter can be switched 'OFF' by actuation of the external 'NC contact.
3. Provision for single phase supply has been made available whenever starter is switched 'ON'. With this single phase supply external devices like electromagnet device, valve, indicating device can be actuated.
Although the embodiments herein are described with various specific embodiments, it will be obvious for a person skilled in the art to practice the embodiments herein with modifications. However, all such modifications are deemed to be within the scope of the claims.
It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the embodiments described herein and all the statements of the scope of the embodiments which as a matter of language might be said to fall there between.
WE CLAIM:
1. An improved starter assembly for a specific compressor application comprising:
a star contactor (1);
a delta contactor (2);
a relay (3);
a hold on contactor (4);
a timer (5); and
a plurality of terminal blocks (6,7,8), said terminal block (8) is adapted to perform switching operation and providing supply for actuation of external devices;
wherein said starter assembly integrating a pressure switch and a solenoid valve of said compressor thereby facilitating automatic operation of said compressor.
2. Assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein said terminal block (7) providing output from said starter.
3. Assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein said assembly is substantially a star
delta type starter assembly.
4. Assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein said terminal block (6) providing for input supply.
5. Assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein said terminal block (7) providing for motor connection.
6. Assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein said terminal block (8) providing for external NC connection and single phase supply.
7. Assembly as claimed in claim 1 mounted on a compressor cylinder.
8. Assembly as claimed in claim 1 coupled with said compressor providing a compact single unit.
