A highly efficient in-vitro system of micropropagation of rose scented Geranium, Pelargonium graveolens L. Herit Bourbon type by direct regeneration method toproduce large number of viable true to the type plants maintaining the genotype of■■■> an elite mother plant is provided. The process involves inoculating nodal explantson shoot regeneration and multiplication medium, transferring the multiple shotsfor further growth on medium for shoot growth, further transferring the shoot withsufficient growth to medium for rooting. The present invention also provides aprocess for the primary and secondary hardening of the in vitro generated plantswith the efficient root regeneration system, which hardened to give about 95%survival in the field conditions. The multiplication ratio achieved by the process isof the order of 1:12 - 1:20, resulting in significantly low cost of production inrelatively lesser time.
