Innovative Refrigeration System Using Solar Energy

Abstract: The single crystal silicon cell solar panel generates the power up 10.5 W in day light. Solar panel output is connected to the 12V DC fan. Four fans connected in series, which is fixed in one wooden frame. RPM of fan is 180 which blow air on wet surface for evaporation of water. Air from fan enter in fridge body through wet surface and gets cooled by this wet surface and evacuate the hot air through vent which is placed in backside panel. Outer surface gets dry by evaporation of water that results to reduced in temperature. The water tank is a fixed on top of the fridge body and the thick thread at one end is kept at the bottom of water tank and another end on the surface of fridge, which is covered by cloth. This system works like drip irrigation system. It maintains the wetness of fridge surface. By consuming 8-9 liters water per day. Hot air inside the fridge is evacuated by cool air coming from fan through wet cloth and air tight aluminum door which minimizes the impact of outer temperature and keep inner temperature cool. This process decreases the inner temp of fridge. Small scale refrigeration, especially used for vaccine preservation in remote areas, as an attractive application. Here the user is technically sophisticated and dealing with life saving drugs. There is a large market for such refrigerators in hospitals and health centers. Solar operated fridge maintains 18-19 C temperature very effectively & is helpful for remote areas of the country for preserving the foods, vegetable, fruit, milk and milk product with effective cost.

3. Preamble to the Description
Energy is an important input in all sectors of any country's economy. If present trend continues, the world population may reach 7 billions by 2100 A.D. The conventional sources of energy are depleting and may be exhausted by the end of the century and the beginning of next century. Nuclear energy requires skilled technicians and poses the safety as regards to radioactive waste disposal. Solar nergy and other non-conventional energy sources are the sources which are to be utilized in future.
In India 80 % of population are living in rural & hilly areas, with interrupted r electric supply, for which it can be use solar energy as a better source for future.
Solar fridge is low cost product which, can be operated on solar energy. This fridge can be used for storage medicine, vaccine, vegetable, fruit, milk & milk product which is very helpful for all people and rural economy & health problems.
The simple principle used for cooling effect is evaporation of water. Evaporative cooling occurs when water vaporizes, the evaporation from the skin is one of the mechanisms which occurs in our bodies & used to remain cool.
The first use of the solar fridge is for facilitating the preservation of vaccines in rural and remote areas which don't have only electricity but also deficience of other fuels like kerosene, diesel, petrol, etc. The vaccine is being used in immunization programme work inefficiently due to non-availability or inadequate supply of grid electricity.
The present innovation relates to, an innovative Portable solar powered fridge which has been produced to be used by the public, as an alternative for power fridge. The basic design uses the principle on evaporation of water. The fridge is solar powered, and require solar panel, and can be made from basic household material lowering the cost and making access to the developing world easier. Using solar power the fridge can be perishable at a temperature of 18/19 degree Celsius.

4. DESCRIPTION Traditional Method
The present refrigerating system work as follows, there is major environment concern regarding conventional refrigeration technologies including contribution to ozone layer depletion and global warming? Refrigerators which contain ozone depleting and global warming substances such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), in their insulation foam or their refrigerant cycle are the most harmful. After CFCs banned in the 1980, it was replaced with substance hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), which is ozone depleting substance. Both are environmentally destructive - as potential global warming chemicals. If a conventional refrigerator is inefficient or use inefficiently, it will also contribute more to global warming than a highly efficient refrigerator. The use of solar energy instead of power refrigeration, strive to minimize the negative impacts of power refrigerator on the environment.
Drawbacks of Traditional method:
• Manufacturing cost is very high.
• Continuous power supply is required.
• Gases use in traditional fridge is harmful to environment.
• Unable to use in rural and hilly area due to power supply & cost effect.
• Unaffordable to poor people.
• Large industrial manufacturing unit is required to manufacture the traditional fridge.
• Mini size Refrigerator is not available in the market.
• Handling of traditional fridge is to difficult.
• Manufacturing & maintenance requires high technical and skilled manpower.

Objectives of present inventions
• The portable solar fridge is used in remote areas where electricity is often not readily accessible.
• Help to preserve the foods, vegetables, fruits, milk and milk products.
• Used to store vaccine in primary health center in rural and hilly areas.
• Useful for farmer to preserve farm products.
• Preserve to store medicines and vaccines.
Detailed Description:
Improved fridging system by using solar energy works as illustrated in figure 01, figure 02, and figure 03 in following manner:
The simple principle used for cooling effect is evaporation of water.
B Evaporative cooling occurs when water vaporizes, the evaporation from the surface
of fridge structure-rectangular metal body which occurs rectangular box remain cool.
Solar operated fridge is consist of solar panel, fan, G.I. rectangular box, cloth, water etc.
A. Solar Panel:
Solar panel consists of solar cell in which silicon crystal is used. 12 no. of silicon cell used in solar panel size 50 cm X 30 cm. Efficiency of solar cell is 20-22 % and maximum output 10.5 watt.
B. DC Fan :
DC fan consist of-12 Volt fan which is directly connected to solar panel in series and fixed on light wet wooden frame. This assembly fitted on main body of fridge for drying the wet surface of fridge by blowing the air. D.C. Fan connected in series and fitted on wooden frame this assembly Mounted on GI box.
C. Main body structure :
The main body structure consists of Galvanized Iron (G.I.) metal for main body which is cool faster than the other metal & rust proof. Man body of fridge is 45 X 60 CM. rectangular box and fitted with air tight aluminum glass door. All assemble are coated with oil paint for rust proofing.
D. Covering:
The covering consist of thick cloth for cover the rectangular G.I. box which is maintain the inner temperature of GI box low by evaporating the water by outer surface and covering.

E. Water Evaporation :-
Simple drip irrigation method used for water evaporation, one water tank capacity of 20 Ltr. mounted on over head of fridge. Continue flow of water is maintained by surface tension and gravitational force through thick thread. This system maintains fridge outer surface wet. In continuous blowing air by fan, the water gets evaporated and inner temperature of rectangular box is reduced by room temperature upto 18°C. Eighteen degree Celsius constant temperature is maintained by this effect.
Consumption of Water - 08 to 09 Ltrs / day
Advantages of solar operated fridge
• Important renewable, energy available free of cost
• Clean, pollution free
• Available in remote and hilly area.
• Earth receives vast solar energy. Cost effective and reliable solar power generator / panel are being developed.
• Helpful for energy conservation.
• Low operating cost
• Economically competitive
• Ideal choice for rural and remote areas as a substitute energy sources.
• The total useful operating time per year can be large.
• Possibility to attain higher efficiency, in cooling cycle and lower cost for fridge.
• No additional requirement for maintenance.
• It is easily transported and reduces negative environment impacts.
• It does not require chemicals and gases for operation.
