The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
FIELD OF PRESENT INVENTION
The present invention relates to a convenience unit assembly being installed in interior of a vehicle. More particularly, the present invention relates to a cup holder which is integrated with a storage box, mounted on a same kinematic mechanism and which can be detached or removed with ease for cleaning.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
Modern vehicles afford occupants many amenities to help one enjoy time spent traveling. Besides offering conveniences that aid an operator in driving, conveniences may offer a sense of comfort and luxury. Examples of these amenities are cup holders and containers arranged within the vehicle to accommodate the drinking, smoking & storage needs of the occupants. Incorporation of these conveniences into the vehicle may pose a challenge to a manufacturer.
Amenities added to vehicles must adequately serve the occupant needs, while remaining aesthetically pleasing at a minimal cost to the manufacturer. To meet these ends, movable Cup holder and container devices have been integrated into the dashboard of vehicles using minimum amount of components. A vehicle operator may use integrated conveniences while driving, requiring brief interaction with those conveniences. Accordingly, combining cup holders and container into a movable convenience unit in a vehicle dashboard allows for quick access while driving, reduced cost to manufacturers, and a pleasing look to consumers,
U.S. Patent No. 5,680,974 discloses a convenience unit assembly including a container for ashes adapted to be integrated into a vehicle console. This design allows cup holders and a container to be concealed within the console. Multiple operator movements are required to open the separate covers of the Cup holder and container, increasing required driver interaction time. Accident risk is likely to he increased by increased driver interaction time.
U.S. Patent No. 6,361,008 B1 discloses a vehicle cup- holder assembly that is integrated into a dashboard and flips down for operator use. The assembly does not include a separate container with the cup holders. If the container is included in the flip down
assembly returning a flip down cup holder to a storage position is likely to spill the contents of the container. A spill of a container holding ashes spreads ash in the vehicle, soiling the vehicle interior to the dissent of the operator. Despite being relatively simple and well integrated into the vehicle dash, the cup holder assembly does not integrate a separate container, requiring a separate container to be mounted elsewhere.
U.S. Patenet No. 4,462,630 discloses an ashtray device which releases stored energy to open the ashtray for operator use. The ashtray device includes a rotary damping device to control the ashtray speed when released from a stored position. The rotary damping device prevents a forceful ejection of ashes from the ashtray that may occur with unrestrained speed. For the purpose of preventing ash ejection from ashtrays that open for operator use, damping of sonic sort is generally used. Despite being relatively simple and well integrated into the vehicle dash, the ashtray does not integrate a cup holder, requiring a separate cup holder mounted elsewhere.
U.S. Patent Publication No. US 2009/0302628 A1 discloses a convenience unit assembly for a vehicle comprising of a convenience unit hingedly positioned within an interior of the vehicle including at least one cup holder and at least one storage container. In the existing cup holders / ashtrays, we don't have them in a single mounting unit.
In present invention both the things are integrated and also provided with a dual stop mechanism which allows the use of ashtray even when cup holder is not needed. Also the cup holder can be customized to become as two coin holders, two ashtrays or as a combination like cup holder and coin holder or coin holder and ashtray etc.
OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION:
The objective of the present invention is to provide a convenience unit assembly being installed in interior of a vehicle.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide an integrated or modular convenience unit assembly consisting of foldable cup holder with adjustable clamping mechanism and snap-in removable ash tray mounted on a single frame, which is sliding inside a box positioned in the dashboard. The assembly has a dual stop mechanism which allows the use of ashtray or coin holder without full opening of holder.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a convenience unit assembly being installed in interior of a vehicle. The said assembly provides a single unit including the function of a Cup holder as well as ashtray; mounted on the vehicle dashboard, with automated sliding movement actuated by a spring and push - push mechanism. The Ashtray and the Cup holder apparatus are both mounted on a single frame, side by side. Ashtray is removable and has a snap fit functionality for ash disposal, and a sheet metal lid for containing the ash while in operation. The cup holder has a spring loaded arm to accommodate different size of cups and a holder base mounted by a four bar linkage mechanism for automatic lowering. The completed assembly is packaged in a single box with a lid. The opening of mechanism is governed by a constant force spring and the movement is dampened by a damping gear. The assembly is provided with a dual stop mechanism which allows use of ashtray without fully opening of cup holder, which will increase the usable space in cockpit. The frame of the cup holder is designed in such a way that ashtray can be replaced by a coin holder or also mirrored for a cup holder to be made as a different variant. The circular hinge (20) fits in the circular cavity (22)
so as to form a fixed connection between the main frame (4) and the push mechanism link (7). The sliding pin (21) of push mechanism link (7) mounted on the contour (6) on the base (2b) of the assembly box (2). The sliding pin moves along the contour (6).
Referring to figure 9, in fully closed condition, sliding pin (21) rests in first groove (17c) of first heart profile (17a). Once user pushes the main frame (4), the pin will move towards extreme end (17d) of the contour (6). Further the sliding pin (21) travels through flat area (17e) and then to one longitudinal area (17f). After traveling to longitudinal area (17f), it rests at second groove (17g) of the second heart profile (17b). This is a half open position. During this time, end user can see half open storage box for putting down ash (when using as ashtray) or coin inserting area (when used as a coin holder).
Now when the user further pushes the main frame (4), the sliding pin (21) can travel in two directions/paths. If the user wants to close the cup holding device (8), user needs to keep pushing the main frame (4). Then once, sliding pin (21) hits wall (17h), travel through longitudinal strips (17n, 17p) and another flat area (17k) and then reach to first groove (17c). If end user wants to open the main frame (4) completely, especially for removal and disposal of ash, or to take out coins, user needs to push and release the main frame (4). Once the main frame (4) is pushed and released, the sliding pin (21) will further travel to wall (17h). Once the load is released the coil spring (11) will try to push the holder towards fully open condition, so the sliding pin will travel to area (17j) and then to fully opened condition. During closing, sliding pin will come from narrow portion (171) to an open portion (17m), then to longitudinal area (17f), further to flat area (17k) and stops at first profile (17c).
