This invention relates to the mission preparation system of an aircraft.

(c) Use of Invention:

An interactive mission planning and data loading system for avionics computers like mission computer, navigation computers, flight management system of an aircraft.

(d) Object of Invention:

The principal object of the invention is to develop a portable and interactive system for mission preparation and data loading into onboard avionics computers of an aircraft. Another object of the invention is to have a planning system for flight trajectory optimization. Another object of the invention is to have a system for trajectory comparison with respect to the plan.

(e) General statement of invention:

The invention provides a system for interactive mission planning and data loading for avionics computers of an aircraft.

(j) Detailed Description of Invention:

The invention is a system around a portable computer with necessary hardware modules to interface with onboard computer(s) of aircraft. The system uses a map database of different scales and formats. Following are the various parameters/features of the system:

1) map database with various scales and formats;

2) display of instantaneous latitude, longitude, and elevation;

3) Jeppesen database;

4) interactive creation of user way point and flight plan;

5) creation of mission library with 26 routes and each route with maximum 20 way points;

6) route properties window with expected ground speed, expected time of arrival, time over target, bank angle, leg distance, and fuel usage parameters;

7) channel frequency database creation for radio navigation systems;

8) nav card preparation and printing

9) optimized route preparation

10) data transfer to onboard systems like mission computer, GPS, and controllers of radio navigation aids.

CLAIM:

We claim that

1. The interactive mission planning and data loader system comprises

of:

- a portable computer based system with data exchanger module to interface with aircraft systems like GPS, mission computer, and radio navigation aids for creating and loading of the mission library.

- a portable computer based system with map based database having different map scales and map formats;

2. The interactive mission planning and data loader system provides an interactive and robust mission preparation and retrieval unit for aircraft applications;

3. The interactive mission planning and data loader system can be used to create user waypoints and routes of mission library with properties like latitude, longitude, elevation, time over target, bank angle, ground speed, leg distance, expected time of arrival, desired air speed, and fuel usage.

4. The interactive mission planning and data loader system can be used to create routes with trajectory optimization;

5. The interactive mission planning and data loader system can be used to view the flight data and compare the trajectory with respect to the planned route.
