Invention Of New Link Harnesses And Method For Checking The Lca (Tejas) Aircraft Harness Using Dit M

Abstract: This invention relates to the introduction of new looms of LCA (TEJAS) aircraft to DITMCO tester with wiring data base for LCA (TEJAS) aircraft and the new programs for checking the continuity and insulation resistance of all points including free pins. In LCA (TEJAS) aircraft, after equipping, approximately 5000 points need to be checked for continuity and insulation resistance. Earlier the points were checked using semi automatic tester and the activity was taking more time. Also, the identification and rectification of snag were very complex and more time consuming. In order to simplify the above activity, it was decided to make use of DITMCO cable continuity tester used for Hawk aircraft for this task. New looms were manufactured as per the requirement and relevant standard for connecting the aircraft with DITMCO cable continuity tester. The wiring data base relevant to LCA (TEJAS) aircraft was prepared. Based on the wiring data base, the programs were written to check the continuity and insulation resistance. The continuity and insulation resistance checks were carried out using the DITMCO tester on SP series TEJAS aircraft and results found satisfactory.

Specification

The following specification particularly describes the nature of invention and the manner in which it is to be tested. BACKGROUND OF INVENTION:
The LCA (TEJAS) aircraft is an Indian made single-jet engine, multirole light fighter/trainer designed and developed by Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The aircraft is equipped with sophisticated systems and the relevant LRUs. The LCA (TEJAS) Aircraft is having approximately 600 connectors. The points required to be checked for continuity and insulation resistance on the aircraft are approximately 7000 nos. Earlier, the points were checked using a cable tester which can able to cover only 60% of the total points and it was taking more time. The remaining 40% of the total points were checked manually. This leads to more than 10 days for continuity and insulation resistance checks of LCA (TEJAS) aircraft and encountered with more snags. Hence, It is required to go for full automatic testing of all the connector points with the existing facility at aircraft Division, HAL(BC). OBJECTIVE OF INVENTION:
The main objective of the invention is to invent new link harness looms and testing methods to make use of existing DIT-MCO automatic tester to replace the partial automatic and conventional method of continuity and insulation resistance checks of LCA (TEJAS) aircraft. DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION:
The DIT-MCO automatic tester was used for carrying out the continuity and insulation resistance checks of Hawk Aircraft. First, the specification of the Dit-MCO tester was studied by the team. The technical details of LCA Aircraft loom harnesses which are connecting various systems were studied and the compatibility of both specifications is checked.
The specification for the link harnesses and the connector details were studied and grouped as per the zone for easy identification and connecting the link harnesses. Then the drawings were made for the link harnesses which will connect the aircraft with DIT-MCO tester. The looms were made as per the drawings and cleared through the regulating authority. Further,

the wiring database was made and the connectivity was checked. Based on the above, the program was written to check the continuity and insulation resistance checks using DIT-MCO automatic tester. Then the looms were connected on SP 10 aircraft and the aircraft wiring was checked using the DIT-MCO tester and the link looms were cleared. The program was run through DIT-MCO tester to carry out the continuity and insulation resistance checks of SP 10 Aircraft. The results were analyzed with the help of drawing and in total the above were cleared by the regulating authority. TEST CARRIED OUT:
The new looms were checked by the quality and the regulating agency as per the relevant drawing and acceptance test procedure and cleared before installing and checking on the aircraft. Then, the newly invented looms and the method adopted for checking the continuity and insulation resistance checks of LCA (TEJAS) aircraft were checked on the SP10 LCA aircraft. The continuity and insulation resistance checks of all the systems were checked and the performance of the above using the DIT-MCO automatic tester was found satisfactory. CLAIMS:
1. The above invention facilitates automatic testing of continuity and insulation resistance for LCA aircraft in lieu of manual testing and ensured time saving on testing.
2. By using the existing facility, the cost of inducting the new tester was avoided.
