Invention Of New Position Indicator Pt No Iq Pi 290 001 Y03 For Jaguar Aircraft

Abstract: This invention relates to the invention of new position indicator for using on Jaguar Aircraft. This item is showing the position of flaps & slats and undercarriage extended / retracted status to pilot. This legacy item had become oblesolete as this item is not supplied by OEM /stockists. Non availability of item and its spares much affected the serviceability of the jaguar fleet. Hence the development of the new flap and slat position indicator was taken up by HAL through M/s IQ INF0TECH LTD,Bangalore. The LRU is newly designed with LED array indication for the position of flaps and slats.The undercarriage will be represented by three *Green arrows" indication. The LRU has inbuilt self test facility for assuring the serviceability of indication circuits.The new concept of indication has the concurrance of Air Head Qtrs, IAF. The LRU had undergone extensive qualification tests including EMI/EMC testing as per the qualification test schedule issued by the concerning certification authority and found satisfactory. At last, the position indicator was cleared for use on the aircraft by the certification authority.

The following specification particularly describes the nature of invention and the manner in which it has been fabricated.

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION;

The position indicator which showing the status/ position of under carriage, flap & slats and under carriage doors is critically important for flight /Engine ground run of jaguar aircraft .This unit and its spares are obsolete and not in production,hence not able to cater the need of jaguar fleet. Due to this,development of this unit was taken up on priority.The unit is designed with LED arrays for flap indication instead of analog5 gauge.

OBJECTIVE OF INVENTION:

The main objective of the invention is to tackle obsolescence of position indicator. In house development of this unit would increase the serviceability of the jaguar aircraft fleet. This invention would fetch a high margin of foreign exchange and increase the technology base of vendors of our country.Indigenisation makes indian vendors to get exposed to aerospace technologies of international standards.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION

The undercarriage /slat/flap Position indicator is an instrument fitted in the left instrument panel of Jaguar aircraft cockpit and provides vital information for the undercarriage/slat/flap position.

The LRU is newly designed with LED array indication for the position of flaps from 0s - 402. slats will be indicated with legacy indication of light blue indicators.The undercarriage will be represented by three xGreen arrows' indication. The LRU

has inbuilt self test facility for assuring the serviceability of indication circuits. The unit is provided with Day / Night illumination facility.

The position indicator includes:

• One rear plate,assembly

• One Digital Display PCB assembly

• One LED light cum Resistors PCB assembly

• One Led indicator plate assembly

• One case assembly

• One connector cable assembly


The lamp / switch support plate is fitted with twelve indicator lights, a XUHF SIG" push button switch, a "TEST" push button switch. The PCB assembly is secured to the front plate assembly pillars by three special screwed spacers.

The indicator lights V1-V4 are connected to the -28V for the daylight and night time operation. The position of the slat is indicated by the illumination, in green, of following indicators.

When the flaps are operating, indicator light V4 (FLAPS NOT FAIRED) illuminates in yellow, and the flap indicator shows the angular position of the flaps on the LED Digital Bar Graph {Eight portion).

The indicator lights V5-V12 are connected to the +28V for daylight and nighttime operation. When the under carriage is operating, indicator lights Vll- V12 illuminate in red, this also indicates door not locked. The "locked-extended "position is indicated by the illumination, in green of the following indicators.

Qualification Tests;

The newly invented position indicator is * subjected to extensive qualification tests such as EMI/EMC test, power supply test,life test,random vibration test. High & low temperature test,Humidity,salt corrosion, altitude, acceleration, thermal & mechanical shock, bump, toppling,transit drop as per JSS 55555, BS 3G 100,Mil Std 461E/F and Mil Std 704D. The unit is subjected to functional tests on aircraft. The results of qualification tests and aircraft tests are found satisfactory Finally, the unit is cleared by the regulating authorities for use on the aircraft.
