DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
The IoT-based smart Point of Sale (PoS) system disclosed herein is an innovative solution designed to revolutionize the retail industry by automating the billing and inventory processes, improving data classification, and enhancing the overall efficiency of the sales environment.
The embodiments of the present invention are illustrated in accompanying drawings, showcasing the integration and functionality of the IoT-based smart Point of Sale (PoS) system.
Figure 1 presents the PoS system and its workflow. The PoS system is comprised of a box-type structure(101), equipped with a conveyer tray(102) allowing movement of articles, plurality of camera sensors(103), a local storage system(104), a display unit(105) and a printing peripheral(111), a remote cloud server(106), an AI classifier algorithm(107), a cloud-based web application(108), an interface module(109a) for retailers, an interface module(109b) for consumers and an inbuilt processing unit(110) for processing the data; integrated into retail spaces to collectively facilitate a comprehensive and streamlined sales process wherein upon a customer placing an article on the one side of conveyer tray(102) of the PoS system, the system is initiated. The article enters the box-type structure(101), where the advantageously positioned camera sensors(103) capture detailed side and top-view images of the item under optimal lighting conditions. This process ensures high-quality image acquisition, a critical aspect for accurate data processing.

The images captured by the cameras are promptly saved to a local storage system(104) of the PoS system for subsequent processing by retailer. As the article progresses through the box structure and exits from the other side of conveyer tray, the shopkeeper is prompted to enter essential information for billing purposes. The PoS system is also integrated with a display unit(105) and a printing peripheral(111) for display of information, which can be interfaced with the smart PoS system, enabling for detailed billing information entry on the display unit. This includes specifying the price of the article and capturing customer details such as contact number or email. To complete the transaction, an attached printer generates a detailed bill.
In an embodiment, The system capitalizes on the power of cloud computing, by employing a batch process to periodically sync the saved images to a remote cloud server(106). This server is equipped with an AI classifier algorithm(107), trained to categorize the captured data into specific product categories and subcategories. This AI model continuously learns and refines its classification accuracy over time through exposure to real-world data.
In an embodiment, the processed data is automatically linked and uploaded to a cloud-based web application(108), specifically tailored to the shop profile from which it originated. This web application(108) serves a dual purpose: it enables consumers to view products available in their local market, offering a convenient solution for customers seeking information, and it saves valuable time for retailers who would otherwise need to manually upload their products to the application.
The PoS system also provides an interface module(109a) for retailers to logging in with credentials in the web application to make necessary modifications to the data uploaded by the smart PoS system, if required. This allows rectifications in category or subcategory contributing to the system's reinforcement learning, ensuring ongoing improvements in accuracy.
In an embodiment, the significance of this IoT-based PoS system extends beyond the transactional aspect of retail. It provides valuable insights to the retailer by capturing billing information along with details of the articles sold. These insights are instrumental in understanding sales patterns and formulating AI-based recommendations to optimize sales strategies. The system considers various parameters in its analytical approach, such as customer gender, age, geographic location, and the category/subcategory of articles purchased. This comprehensive analysis enables retailers to tailor their offerings to specific demographics, enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
In another embodiment, the web application(108) offers an interface module(109b) for consumers for creating accounts, linking them to their sales and purchase history during the billing process on the smart PoS. This feature contributes to a personalized shopping experience and promotes customer engagement.
The present invention represents a significant advancement in the realm of retail technology, providing a comprehensive and integrated solution for automating the billing and inventory processes, improving data classification, and streamlining online product listings. The embodiments of the invention, as illustrated in accompanying drawings, showcase the practical application of this innovative system in diverse retail environments.
While the invention is described through specific examples, it is crucial to note that modifications and changes can be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention defined in the appended claims.
