, Description:FIELD OF INVENTION

The present innovation relates to a mechanism for lifting & lowering of Jack Staff. More particularly, the present innovation relates to a mechanism for lifting & lowering of Jack Staff or bow anchor light post or bow flag pole on bow deck (forecastle deck). Further this innovation shall mitigate extremely labour intensive and hazardous operation process of lifting and lowering of Jack staff.

BACKGROUND ART

All Indian ships built to date were provisioned with Jack Staff on forward of main deck or forecastle deck which were secured with arrangement for lifting and lowering which lacked swiftness / ease of operation, was not very safe and hassle-free or single man operation either.

In the prior art a Chinese patent application CN205469657U discloses a jack staff winding and unwinding device which includes fixed eye plates, integrated form stand, leading wheels, electrically operated anchor machine, and hawser.

OBJECT OF INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages of the prior art, the present innovation aims to provide a lifting and lowering mechanism for Jack Staff for solving the above problems of labour intensive and hazardous operation process of the prior art.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

The present innovation relates to provisioning a Lifting and Lowering mechanism for Jack Staff to lift or lower with least effort and time.

Therefore, as per a principal object there is provided a Lifting and Lowering mechanism for Jack Staff to lift or lower by rotation of a wheel by a single person only with least effort and time.

As per yet another object, there is provided a Worm shaft and Worm wheel to transfer the rotational movement from one axis to another axis, thus enabling the lifting or lowering of jack staff by steering wheel rotation in clock-wise or anti-clock-wise direction.

As per yet another object, there is provided a main shaft attached with Jack Staff by bearings, thus enabling the lifting or lowering of jack staff by rotation of steering wheel.

As per yet another object, there is provided numbers of gears and pinions to scale down the torque in the mechanism due to the heavily weighted jack staff with all its accessories during lifting or lowering operation.

In order to fulfil the objective and ease of lifting and lowering operation, the design of this mechanism necessitates features which are simple to operate with least effort and time.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS

Fig. 1 illustrates plan view of the mechanism when fitted on the ship in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 illustrates elevation view of the mechanism in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 3 illustrates the sectional view of the mechanism in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 4 illustrates detail of main shaft in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 5 illustrates detail of clamping arrangement of jack staff in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 6 illustrates lifting and lowering mechanism for jack staff fitted on deck in accordance with the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

In general, the lifting and lowering of Jack staff along with its all fittings are done by the process which is extremely labour intensive, hazardous and time consuming. The present innovation provides a Lifting and Lowering mechanism for Jack Staff to lift or lower with least effort and time.

The invention of lifting and lowering mechanism of Jack Staff as shown, comprises a substantially fitted Worm Shaft 5, constructed by any suitable material, preferably steel, secured by Worm Shaft Bearings 16 at both ends to Cover Plate 1, constructed from any suitable material, preferably steel.

The above sub-assembly is further configured with a Worm Shaft Gear 19 which is further aligned with an Operating Wheel Gear 18.

The Operating Wheel Gear 18 is further fitted with an Operating Wheel 21, constructed by any suitable material, preferably steel, and secured to a Bearing Block Assembly 20 by an Operating Wheel Shaft 22, constructed by any suitable material, preferably steel. The Bearing Block Assembly 20 is further supported by a Bearing Support Assembly 17, constructed from any suitable material, preferably steel.

There is a Worm Wheel 6, constructed from any suitable material, aligned with the Worm Shaft 5, to transfer the rotational movement from one axis to another axis. The Worm Wheel is fitted with a Main Shaft 7, constructed by any suitable material, preferably high tensile steel with good shock resistance. The Main Shaft is fitted with Bearing 8 and Bearing 9 at the ends and a Bearing 24 at an intermediate region along with a Bearing Cover 23. The Bearing 24 along with Bearing Cover 23 is supported by a Support Assembly 10 comprising of support plates and brackets, constructed from any suitable material, preferably steel.

There is a Jack Staff Gear 11, constructed from any suitable material, preferably steel, configured to Jack Staff Holder Plate 12, which are fixed around the Jack Staff by suitable Bolt & Nuts 13, or any other means of fasteners. The Bimetallic Separator 14, constructed from any suitable material, is placed in between Jack Staff and Jack Staff Holder Plates 12, thus establishing proper grip of Jack Staff and also negating bi-metallic corrosion, if any. There is also provided a Support Plate 15 to stiffen the Jack Staff Holder Plate 12.

The above sub-assembly is made to pass through the Main Shaft 7 via the Jack Staff Gear 11.

The above assembly as per preceding paragraphs are fitted over a Base Plate 2, constructed from any suitable material, preferably steel, and configured with Cover Plate1 by Heavy Duty Hinge 3 of suitable numbers along with Gasket Pad Strip 4, constructed from any suitable material, preferably rubber.

By rotating the Operating Wheel 21, the Worm Shaft 5 is rotated and thus the aligned Worm Wheel 6 is rotated. The rotation of the Worm Wheel 6 enables rotation of Main Shaft 7, which further rotates the Jack Staff Gear 11. Since the Jack Staff Gear 11 is fitted with Jack Staff, it also rotates accordingly, and thus the lowering or Lifting of Jack Staff is achieved.
