Abstract: Flight Data Recorder/Cockpit Voice Recorder (FDR/CVR) is designed to record the aircraft vital parameters for investigation during crash. Nowadays the data recorders are being utilized for the purpose of health usage monitoring apart from the normal usage for crash investigation. This has resulted in more focus on the technology being used inside the FDR/CVR. Further the aircraft designers have always worried about the weight of the systems used in the aircraft as more weight leads to more fuel being consumed also the payload capacity of the aircraft decreases. Keeping in mind the above requirements the present invention provides the capability of light weight, robust mechanical structure which suits EMI/EMC filtering and is qualified for airborne usage.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to unique light weight, robust mechanical structure with EMI/EMC filtering
and qualified for airborne usage.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
FDR/CVR of the aircraft acquires data from various sensors on aircraft. The data is stored in
crash protected Memories through which the data is downloaded for the purpose of analysis or
Crash investigations. A major worry of the aircraft designers have been directly focused on the
weight of the aircraft. The Weight of the aircraft is directly related to the physical characteristics
like the Max Payload Capacity, Max Height, Maximum Speed etc. These parameters help in
establishing the superiority of the aircraft over other contemporary aircrafts. Hence the total
weight budget of the systems is a major worry of the aircraft designer’s worldwide.
The present invention describes the unique mechanical design that provides following features:
a. Reduced Weight
b. Ensures Robustness
c. EMI/EMC filtering
d. 2- piece enclosure
SUMMARY OF PRESENT INVENTION
The present invention, therefore, is directed to mechanical structure that offers housing for
electronic PCB’s along with Crash Protected Memory and a feature to install Under Water
Locator Beacon (ULB).
An Aspect of present invention is the unique 2-plate housing that ensures minimum exposure to
outside environment and safe even when rain or fluid drops on to it.
Another aspect of the present invention is the provision of mechanical space where EMI/EMC
gaskets can be fitted.
A further aspect of the invention is that the mechanical structure provides more strength as the
parts are fabricated from individual blocks by milling process.
A further aspect of the present invention is that the complete housing provides better spacing for
electronic PCB Housing, reduced weight & offers more strength.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The detail description for light weight mechanical structure of FDR/CVR is elaborated in below
paragraph:
All the mechanical components are machined parts and most of the metallic components are
made of Aluminum. The color of the DRU unit is international orange with white strips. The
mechanical structure assembly is hard mounted on aircraft, or suitable adaptor plate, with no
separate requirement of mounting tray for installation.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. Light weight mechanical structure of FDR/CVR System comprising; two piece enclosure for light weight of FDR/CVR; EMI/EMC means radiation or exposure to electromagnetic field due to outside environment.
2. Light weight mechanical structure of FDR/CVR System of claim 1 wherein Two unique plate housing that ensures minimum exposure to outside environment and safe even when rain or fluid drops on to it
3. Light weight mechanical structure of FDR/CVR System of claim 2 wherein mechanical components are machined parts and most of the metallic components are made of Aluminum.
4. Light weight mechanical structure of FDR/CVR System of claim 1 wherein the provision of mechanical space where EMI/EMC gaskets can be fitted to avoid the EMI/EMC.
5. Light weight mechanical structure of FDR/CVR System of claim 3 wherein the mechanical structure assembly is hard mounted on aircraft, or suitable adaptor plate, with no separate requirement of mounting tray for installation.
