Abstract: The liver is the largest organ of the body and weighs around 31bs. (1.4kg) in adults and performs about 500 odd functions. The clinical manifestations of liver diseases are varied and often subtle and may consists of complaints as fatigue, tiredness, malaise, anorexia, nausea, often vomiting, distaste for food ,often signs of jaundice with yellowness of sclera, yellow coloured urine and pale stools.
This invention relates to Liver tonic composition in Homoeopathy.
HACKG ROUND.

The clinical manifestations of liver diseases are varied and often subtle and may consists of complaints as fatigue, tiredness, malaise, anorexia, nausea, often vomiting, distaste for food ,often signs of jaundice with yellowness of sclera, yellow coloured urine and pale stools.^ An homoeopath frequently prescribes Chelidonium Majus to a patient with signs of jaundice and pain in the right upper adbomen .For a patient with jaundice and incessant nausea, Ipecacuanha will be prescribed . In case where there are a number of symptoms like loss of appetite, pain in the abdomen, severe jaundice with both liver and spleen enlarged, then Chelidonium Majus may be given in combination with Chionanthus Virginica.
Liver tome composition is preseribed for symptoms of enlargement of liver, jaundice, loss of appetite, sluggish liver, alcoholism etc.
The object of this invention is to simplify the prescription by doctor for a large group of patients and to cover wider spectrum symptoms in conditions such as enlargement of liver, jaundice, loss of appetite, sluggish liver, alcoholism , anorexia etc in a single Homoeopathic composition consisting of ingredients obtained from extracts of herbal plants.
To achieve said objective, this invention provides Liver Tonic composition for a wider spectrum of symptoms, comprising of the following ingredients.
i) Andiogiaphis Paniculata
ii) Carduus Marianus
iii) Chelidonium Majus
iv) Chionanthus Virginica
v) I lydrastis Canadensis
vi) Ipecacuanha
vii) Podophylhmi Peltatum
viii) Taraxacum
In the aforesaid composition , all the ingredients are obtained from herbal extracts . Said ingredients are extracted in alcohol as per the Homoeopathic Phannacopia of India (HP1). Furthermore, no polentisation of any of the ingredients is required.
Since the above composition is in a liquid form ,the above mentioned ingredients are extracted in alcohol. The alcohol content in said composition ranges between 8% to approximately 13% by volume/volume of said
composition.
The composition so obtained are prescribed by doctors depending upon the acuteness of the patient's condition. Normally , the dosage prescribed is 1-2 tsp TDS as and when required, depending upon the patient's condition.
This invention further includes a process of preparing Liver Tonic
composition comprising
a) preparing a sugar syrup by adding sugar to purified water
b) adding to said syrup preservative, sodium benzoate (<^H CONa) c)obtaining individually extracts of the herbal ingredients namely,
i
Andrographis Pamculata, Carduus Marianus,Chelidonium Majus.Chionanthus:
Virginica, Hydrastis Canadensis, Ipecacuanlia, Podophyllum Peltatum and Taraxacum in alcohol
d) mixing all the ingredients and adding the sugar syrup
e) adding to said composition preservatives , methyl parabin and propyl
parabin,
0 adding purified water to make up the volume and mixing thoroughly and g) filtering the composition.
The invention will, now, be described with reference to the following
examples.
Example 1
The Liv-T composition is prepared by mixing in at ambient temperature the,
following ingredients:
i) Andrographis Paniculata 4%V/V
ii) Carduus Marianus 4%V/V
iii) Chelidonium Majus 2%V/V
iv) Chionanthus Virginica 2%V/V
v) Hydrastis Canadensis 2%V/V
vi) Ipecacuanha 2%V/V
vii) Podophyllum Peltatiim 2%V/V
viii) Taraxacum 2%V/V
The process comprises of preparing a sugar syrup by adding sugar to purified water,adding to said syrup preservative, sodium benzoate (CgHgCCKNa), obtaining individually extracts of the herbal ingredients such as herein described in alcohol, mixing all the ingredients and adding the sugar syrup, adding to said composition preservatives , methyl parabin and propyl parabin, adding purified water to make up the volume and filtering the composition.
The solution is known as Liv-T and are prescribed for patients depending upon the age and acuteness of the condition. Even the patients can themselves take this solution depending upon the condition of the patients without doctors prescription. Normally, the dosage prescribed is 1-2 tsp
IDS as and when required. The details of the treatement are given in the
clinical report.

INDICATIONS
The composition prepared from the above mentioned ingredients are
prescribed for enlargement of liver, jaundice, lossof appetite, sluggish liver,
alcoholism etc.
CLINICAL TRIALS:
The following tables indicate the clinical trial results & doses for the treatement of symptoms such as enlargement of liver, jaundice, lossof appetite, sluggish liver, alcoholism etc. (Table Removed)

in proportions ranging from 1 %to 5 % V/V ,wherein none of the ingredients require potentisation.
2. Liver Tonic composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein all the
inredients of said composition are obtained from the extracts of herbal plants.
3 Liver Ionic composition substantially as herein described with reference to the foregoing examples.
