Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION:
[001] The present subject matter described herein, relates to a vehicle construction and more particularly, relates to vehicle having a variant not 5 equipped with Tail End Trim and Quarter Trim.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART:
[002] In Current design of Vehicles, where Tail End Trim and Quarter Trim are not provided the cross section of Member, Tail End and Quarter Panel is maintained in a way to replicate the appearance of the excluded aesthetic parts 10 throughout the Sealing Flange. However, a change in loading sequence of Panel Comp, Rear Skirt in Weld shop is required (From Main Body Welding Station to Underbody Welding Station). The disadvantage of changing the sequence is that of serviceability of Panel Comp, Rear Skirt which becomes difficult if it is welded along with underbody. Also, handling of Panel Comp, Rear Skirt after welding 15 with underbody becomes difficult as it will be held by spot only at bottom area only.
[003] Japanese Patent publication JP2000103363A provides a car body connecting structure. The problem defined is - To facilitate assembling when the joining part of a panel or a member constituting the opening part of a car body is 20 assembled. The solution provided - A side body A forming the opening part of an automotive backdoor includes the flange part 2b of a rear combination inner panel 2 integrally overlapped on the upper part of the flange part 3b of a rear combination lamp house 3. Similarly, a rear underbody B forming the opening part includes the flange part 4b of a tail end member integrally overlapped on the 25 upper part of the flange part 5b of a rear skirt panel 5. The end part of the flange part 4b of the tail end mater 4 forms a recessed part 4e protruded upward. The end part of the flange part 5b is housed in the recessed part 4e by providing a bent part 5c to increase its stage by one step. A relationship between a step part 4c and an
3
end surface is set such that the depth of the step part 4c is larger than the plate thickness of the end surface.
[004] However, the assembly, shape, and location of the parts mentioned in the prior art is not similar to the present disclosure.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION: 5
[005] The principal objective of the present invention is to provide loading of rear structure components of a vehicle having no plastic trim, for example, a variant not equipped with Tail End Trim and Quarter Trim.
[006] Another object of the present subject matter is to provide a simple, cost effective, and efficiently designed rear structure with enhanced serviceability. 10
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[007] The present invention relates to loading of rear structure components of a vehicle. The rear structure components includes a rear floor; a plurality of side body secured to the rear floor, the plurality of side body including a plurality of trim less quarter panels, each of the plurality of trim less quarter panels define 15 receptacles; and a rear skirt panel including a trim less member tail end, the member tail end defining extensions configured to be received by the receptacles during a smooth transition to achieve a uniform structure, wherein, a cross section of the plurality of trim less quarter panels, and a cross section of the trim less member tail end is such that the uniform structure replicates provision of a trim. 20

[0021] Fig. 1a illustrates a conventional rear body structure 100 of a vehicle (not shown), and Fig. 1b illustrates a loading direction D1 associated with components 5 to achieve the conventional rear body structure 100. Following the loading direction D1, a side body 102 including a quarter trim panel 104 is moved towards and joined to a member tail end trim 106. The components are subsequently welded in a welding station. However, serviceability of components of the conventional rear body structure 100 becomes extremely difficult, as the member 10 tail end trim 106 along with quarter trim panel 104 are spot welded to an underbody of the vehicle.
[0022] Fig. 2a illustrates rear structure components 200 of a vehicle (not shown) in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The rear structure components 200 includes a rear floor 202. The rear structure components 200 15 further includes a plurality of side body 204 secured to the rear floor 202. The plurality of side body 204 includes a plurality of trim less quarter panels 206. Each of the plurality of trim less quarter panels 206 define receptacles.
[0023] The rear structure components 200 further includes a rear skirt panel 208. The rear skirt panel 208 includes a trim less member tail end 210. In an 20 embodiment, the member tail end 210 defines extensions configured to be received by the receptacles of the plurality of trim less quarter panels 206 during a smooth transition to achieve a uniform structure 300 (See Fig. 3).
[0024] Fig. 2b illustrates a loading direction D2 associated with aforementioned components of the rear structure components 200 to achieve the uniform structure 25 300. In an embodiment, loading direction D2 associated with the smooth transition to achieve the uniform structure 300 is such that the trim less member tail end 210 is received below the plurality of trim less quarter panels 206. Further, the loading direction D2 of the trim less member tail end 210 is from rearward to forward towards the plurality of trim less quarter panels 206. 30
7
[0025] In an embodiment, a cross section of the plurality of trim less quarter panels 206, and a cross section of the trim less member tail end 210 is such that, upon following the loading direction D2 allowing the smooth transition of the trim less member tail end 210 towards the plurality of trim less quarter panels 206, the uniform structure 300 replicates provision of a trim. In an example, the trim less 5 member tail end 210 includes member tail end flanges 302 (See Fig. 3) and beads 304 (See Fig. 3), and the trim less quarter panels 206 includes quarter flanges 306 (See Fig. 3) to provide strength and an improved appearance to the rear structure components 200. Further in an example, the uniform structure 300 is configured to receive a weather strip, the uniform structure 300 defining a quarter panel 10 weather strip resting face 308 and a member tail end weather strip resting face 310.
[0026] Fig. 3 illustrates an enlarged view associated with the rear structure components 200 of Fig. 2a. As shown, the uniform structure 300 is achieved due to the smooth transition following the loading direction D2 of the trim less 15 member tail end 210 towards the plurality of trim less quarter panels 206. In an example, the smooth transition is defined by flow of the member tail end flanges 302 towards the quarter flanges 306, and by flow of the member tail end weather strip resting face 310 towards the quarter panel weather strip resting face 308. Further in an example, the trim less member tail end 210 includes angular surfaces 20 312 which assists in achieving the smooth transition following the loading direction (D2).
[0027] Fig. 4 illustrates a sectional view about a section A-A’ of the rear structure components 200 of Fig. 3.
[0028] Fig. 5 illustrates another embodiment of the rear structure components 25 200, wherein a joint of the plurality of trim less quarter panels 206 and the trim less member tail end 210 is provided with a cap assembly 502. In an example, the cap assembly 502 may provide strength and an improved appearance to the rear structure components 200.
8
[0029] The rear structure components 200 provides a simple, cost effective, and serviceable design as compared to the conventional rear body structure 100, as the loading sequence is not disturbed, and further spot welding of the components of the rear structure components 200 with the underbody is avoided.
[0030] Although embodiments for the present subject matter have been described 5 in language specific to structural features, it is to be understood that the present subject matter is not necessarily limited to the specific features described. Rather, the specific features and methods are disclosed as embodiments for the present subject matter. Numerous modifications and adaptations of the system/component of the present invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and thus it is 10 intended by the appended claims to cover all such modifications and adaptations which fall within the scope of the present subject matter.
