DESC:TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present invention relates to a two-wheeled vehicle. More particularly, the present invention relates to a locking unit for the two-wheeled vehicle.
BACKGROUND
[0002] In order to make motorcycles lighter in weight and appealing to diverse groups, small models of motorized cycle designs have been developed. Generally, such vehicles include a small engine block coupled with other components and suspended on a body frame just in front of and surrounding a rear wheel. Such motorized cycles, often referred to as a scooter type vehicle, may includes a storage box provided directly below a rider’s seat to effectively make use of the scarce space available.
[0003] An existing scooter type vehicle includes a front body portion and a rear body portion. A step floor is provided between the front body portion and said rear body portion. A seat is vertically pivotably supported to the rear body portion of said vehicle and a storage box positioned below said seat. Typically, said storage box allows an easy and safe storage of a large commodity such as, for example, a helmet.
[0004] A known scooter type vehicle is provided with said storage box openably closed with the seat. Generally, the seat is lockable in an engaged state with the rear body portion and unlockable from the engaged state by a seat lock mechanism. Further, a fuel tank located rearward of the seat is being covered by a fuel lid. The fuel lid is being lockable in a closed state and unlockable from the closed state by a fuel lid lock mechanism. Typically, the vehicle will include a locking unit for alternately enabling the seat lock mechanism and the fuel lid lock mechanism through a storage box-side cable and a fuel lid side cable respectively. The fuel lid-side cable unlocks a lock of the fuel lid and the storage box-side cable unlocks a lock of the storage box. However in such a known system, both storage box-side cable and fuel-lid cable are not secured by any supporting means and can be accessed easily by a third party. Hence, there is a need to devise that the lock mechanism provided for both the seat and the fuel lid provides good protection against burglary, theft etc.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[00024] Generally, in a two-wheeled vehicle a storage box is provided directly below a rider’s seat to effectively make use of the space available. The fuel tank is provided behind this compartment and is covered by a fuel lid capable of being opened and closed and having a lock. The seat is of a type which can be opened and closed and has a lock mechanism. The lock mechanism for the seat lock and fuel lid lock involves unlocking members as cables. A storage box-side cable and a fuel lid side cable are connected to a key cylinder. The fuel lid-side cable unlocks a lock of the fuel lid-side lock mechanism by turning the key in clockwise direction and unlocks a lock of storage box-side cable lock mechanism by turning the key in another counter-clockwise direction. The storage box-side cable extends from a cam lock to the seat lock bracket plate mounted on seat rail of the frame and fuel lid-side cable extends from the cam lock to fuel lid latching section. Both box-side cable and fuel-lid side cable are not covered by any support means and can be easily accessible and pulled from bottom and hence the lock mechanism corresponding to the seat and fuel lid can be unlocked without the use of designated key. Therefore, there exists need for an improved and enhanced security to the vehicle.
[00025] With the above objectives in view, the present invention provides an improved locking unit for a two-wheeled vehicle for providing enhanced security to the vehicle. In the improved locking unit, an extension in the form of at least one supporting arm extending from the lock body of said improved locking unit is made to cover the cables thus preventing the cables from unauthorised access. The improved locking unit is low cost and requires no durability and maintainability issues.
[00026] The present invention relates to a two-wheeled vehicle, particularly to an improved locking unit. The improved locking unit with unlock mechanism for both seat and fuel lid provides an extension in the form of a at least one supporting arm to cover both storage box-side cable and fuel lid-side cable so as to prevent unauthorised access to said cables from bottom of said vehicle.
[00027] Various other features and advantages of the invention are described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the drawings, like reference numbers generally indicate identical, functionally similar, and/or structurally similar elements. The drawing in which an element first appears is indicated by the leftmost digit(s) in the corresponding reference number. With reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein the same reference numerals will be used to identify the same or similar elements throughout the several views. It should be noted that the drawings should be viewed in the direction of orientation of the reference numerals.
[00028] It is to be noted that in the ensuing description, the present invention is usable in a saddle type vehicle exemplified in the form of a two-wheeled scooter type vehicle for illustration.
[00029] Further “front” and “rear”, and “left” and “right” referred to in the ensuing description of the illustrated embodiment refer to front and rear, and left and right directions as seen in a state of being seated on a seat of the two-wheeled vehicle. Furthermore, a longitudinal axis refers to a front to rear axis relative to the vehicle, while a lateral axis refers to a side to side, or left to right axis relative to the vehicle. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology used herein is for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting.

[00046] Advantageously, as per the present invention, said at one cable extending from said cam lock to said at least one latching section corresponding to said first latching section at said seat bracket lock plate and said second latching section to said fuel lid are covered by said at least one supporting arm and hence it is not possible to open or lift seat and fuel tank cap without the designated key. Also, said horizontal flange, covers the key cylinder, thus the key cylinder is not accessible from the bottom .In present invention , no additional part is used and for protecting the cables from unauthorised access only extension is provided .The improved locking unit is cost effective, simple to manufacture and does not require separate cover cable. With improved locking unit according to first and second embodiments of present the present invention, said at least one cable and said key cylinder are not visible/accessible from bottom view thus imparting enhanced safety of the vehicle and customer.
[00047] Improvements and modifications may be incorporated herein without deviating from the scope of the invention.
