Log Creation In Flight Data Recorder

Abstract: The invention specifically comprises a method for storing the CVFDR"s self error bit informations, with the help of Power PC processor, which can be used in case of the CVFDR is not able to record any aircraft data due to some fault in the CVFDR. However the CVFDR always records self bit information even if the recording is happening properly.

Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is intended to combine recording of an error log with
the recording of the aircraft data and audio for better understanding the errors
that are occurring in the CVFDR.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Flight data recorders are monitoring and recording instruments, carried
aboard an aircraft, which systematically monitor and store the instantaneous
values of various aircraft parameters. Flight data recorder records aircraft data
of various parameters and audio data through various channels. After
processing those downloaded data though downloading devices (GRE), we do
their processing and if the recording is not happening in the memory of the
Flight recorder then the error words are also not able to be recorded in the
previous versions of Flight data recorders.
The development of solid state memory devices, such as electrically
erasable read‐only memory, has led to the design of all solid state flight data
recorders. The solid state flight data recorders commonly employ a Data
Acquisition System (DAS) which receives and processes the various aircraft
input signals to be monitored and stored under the control of a central
processing unit (CPU). The analog signals are converted to digital signals by the
DAS and, under CPU control, are passed over a data bus to the solid state
memory devices. Programming within the CPU controls the processing of input
airplane signals to corresponding digital signals through the DAS and the
subsequent transference of these digital signals to controlled locations in the
solid state memory. Further advancement in the aircraft system led to the use
of pre defined protocols for communication between various sub systems of
the aircraft.
SUMMARY OF PRESENT INVENTION
In accordance with one aspect of present invention is to provide a technique
according to which the error words are acquired in CVFDR.
In accordance with one aspect of present invention is to provide a method to
record the error words in a non volatile memory.
In accordance with another aspect of present invention is to provide a method
to store the results in absence of recording of data in the CVFDR.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The Cockpit Voice & Flight Data Recorder (CVFDR) is capable of recording
various aircraft parameters which are coming from aircraft via digital data
interface on ARINC717 interface in variable word format along with critical
parameters on ARINC 429 interface from aircraft stand by instrument System
as well as four channel audio data during flight.
For recording of data and audio, CVFDR comprises of three major electronic
boards:
1. Processor Board: The DRU Processor Card is designed around the highly
integrated microcontroller. The module consists of on board memory FLASH
EPROM & Static RAM for code & data respectively and NVRAM for storing
Sorties information. The card also supports a serial ARINC‐717 interface. A
10/100 Mbps Ethernet/USB is also provided to download recorded data to the
Data Retrieval Unit. Additionally, an interface is provided to enable
communication with a Host PC for online monitoring of data.
2. Audio Board: The Audio Card is designed around the high end DSP
processor. One Audio CODEC is provided for digitizing the audio input. The
interface between DSP processor and CODEC is through the Synchronous serial
port of the DSP. The CODEC supports 24‐bit and 96 kHz sampling rate.
3. Mother Board: This Mother board provides platform to fit other electronic
modules of DRU as well as PCB mount unit connectors.
The Solid state flight data recorder records the error words in the frame as
well as in the separate locations in the memory. There is an option for
downloading these error words in case no data is recorded in the Flight data
recorder to check whether it is a problem of the Flight data recorder unit or it
is some fault in the data that is coming from the aircraft or the flight data
recorder is not getting any data at all. If there is no problem in getting the data
from the aircraft then this error log will be useful in defining that in which
component or in which part of the flight data recorder the actual problem is
occurring which will be a great help in repair of the Flight data recorder.
