A Process For The Preparation Of Long Alkyl Chain Substituted Phenolic Anti Oxidants And A Polyolefin Composition
Abstract: New hindered liquid phenolic antioxidants were prepared by reacitng a suitable phenol with C12 C18 alpha olefins. Specifically 2, 6-Didodeeyl-4-methyl phenol (AO12), 2,6-diocatadecyl-4-,methyl phen ol (AQ18) were prepared from p-cresol and I-dodecene and I-octadecene respectively. These hindered phenols containing C12 and C18 alkyl substitutents in the ortho posiion ot phenolic OH were used alone and in combination with phosphates for stabilizaion of polyolefine such as polypropylene and polypropylene ethylene copolymer. The melt flow index, melt flow rate and colour indexes were measured to evaluate the stability of these antioxidants.
