Machine Learning Based Meal Suggestion System Having Food Recipes And Smart Reminder

Abstract: In our daily life, almost every homemaker who is responsible for preparing food struggles for the right recipe for every meal based on the available food items in the house. Each time, that person finds himself/herself in trouble standing in front of an open refrigerator in order to decide the meal to be prepared. The job of a homemaker is not limited to preparing meals for the day. This task is a subpart of his/her entire day’s activities but takes much of the time. That is why we are proposing a “machine learning-based meal suggestion system having food recipes and smart reminder” which will automatically sense the food items that are being kept in the refrigerator and will present full-day meal recipes at the given time through the voice-based module. This system will take care of the food items that are needed to be procured. This automated system will lift off the burden of deciding meals for every day by giving (announcing) suggestions as well as preparing a report for the same in the developed application. Additionally, this system will also take care of all the important assignments of the user for a day by providing an early reminder for each planned activity (meetings, conferences, talks etc.)

Best Method of working:
The first step in the proposed system is to create users’ profiles in the database. These profiles will contain basic attributes (age, gender, cuisine choices, types of diets - herbivores, carnivores or omnivores, number of meals per day, anamnesis - if any etc.). These family members’ profiles will lay the foundations to serve the recipe options to the user. Additionally, a number of ad-hoc “guest profiles” can be created on-demand having less necessary attributes (types of diets, number of meals per day etc.)
The next step is focused on the storage of the smart refrigerator. This refrigerator is the main component of the proposed system which will take care of the food items, their quantities, date of storage etc. At the first iteration, these items will be stored manually. In later iterations, smart refrigerators will automatically recognize the item and its associated attributes with the help of applied machine learning algorithms and will update its storage database.
In the third step, the smart refrigerator will predict the possible recipes that can be made from the available ingredients and also predict the number of people who can consume those. If the user wants to make a recipe, the system will identify the necessary food items from its storage and will present a report based on the available capacity. If any of the items are missing or less in quantity, the system will also announce the same. By default, any recipe that will be predicted by the system will be for all the listed profiles. If there is any change in the number of profiles, the quantity of the food items will automatically be changed.
The prime feature of the proposed system is its automated, in-time voice-based reminder module which will be one of the communication mediums with the user. The reminder module works constantly with the alignment of each of the processes in the system. On the setting page, this reminder module can be customized.
Following are the phases when this reminder module will be activated: -
Phase - I: - This is the phase where all the credentials of the users will be inserted into the system. If any of the required credentials are left unfilled, the reminder module promptly intimates the user to fill in the asked details. After successful completion of the task, the reminder module will tell about the next step.
Phase - II: - This phase is used when all the food items will be stored in the refrigerator. The reminder module will repeat the items that will be kept in the refrigerator. Along with the items, there will be other attributes such as type of food (Vegetarian or non-vegetarian), date of storage, quantity etc.
Phase - III: - The reminder system will announce the available meal(s) suggestions based on the procured food items in the refrigerator on a pre-defined time set by the user. Although, this phase can be activated at any point in time. But, it will announce suggestions to only those meals that have not been prepared yet. Announcement for all the prepared meals for the day will not be done.
Phase - IV: - When any food item is taken from or kept into the storage (refrigerator), the storage list will be updated automatically with the help of a vision sensor installed in the fridge. Each time any item is taken out or kept into the refrigerator, the reminder system will announce the food_item with its approximate quantity and in parallel will add/remove the food items from the list of suggested recipes and will update the recipes list accordingly.
ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION:
• The proposed system will reduce the time taken to decide the meal by the homemaker
• It will protect the food items and their optimal utilization by placing them in high priority.
• This system will provide an effective time management.
• This system is effective to maintain the important day activities (meetings, conferences etc.) by giving early reminders.
• This system will take care of the necessary nutrition for each individual in the family by providing the medical history based recipes suggestions.
