Field of the invention:
The present invention generally relates to a device and its working towards
opening of the jaw of the main body of nail cutter/clipper of compound lever type.
Said jaw opening machine performs mechanical operations and acts towards
expanding the nail clipper ends of two wings of the nail cutter/clipper main body,
particularly involving its pneumatic arms customized for jaw opening operations.
Background of the invention:
Nail cutters are usually made of stainless steel. Most common hand nail
cutter/clippers are of compound lever type. Most nail cutters usually come with
another tool attached, which is used to clean the dirt out of nails. A nail cutter often
has a miniature file fixed to it to allow rough edges of nails to be manicured. A nail
file allows for removal of any excess nail that is jagged or has been missed. Nail
cutters occasionally come with a pocket knife or a nail catcher. Nail cutters, which
have concave clipping ends, are for fingernails. The shape and dimension of the
nail clipper end of the nail cutter main body becomes very important, in view of
very small size of the nail cutter device, wherein the nail clipping action is
performed using its lever therein.
There are methods available for performing the jaw opening operations
during nail cutter/clipper making, which are lengthy, time consuming and

sometimes create non-effective curves/jaws. Such methods usually involve
mechanical tools for bending the wings of nail cutter/clipper main body in the
desired shape, which may always have scope of improvement and refinement in
the working of tool involved therein so that quick and effective jaw of the nail
cutter/clipper main body is obtained.
The object of the present invention is to propose a novel pneumatic device,
which performs jaw opening operations with effective clarity and perfect uniformity,
wherein said process of jaw opening is a single step automatic/semi-automatic
and involves almost no times.
Prime object of the present invention is propose a simple pneumatic device
with two pneumatic jaw opening arms, to be used in the manufacturing of nail
cutter/clipper, being operated and controlled by certain software/logic based
controller.
Another object of the present invention is to propose a pair of pneumatic
jaw opening arms in the said machine, wherein one end of each of these arms are
engaged at a common junction, and are provisioned to perform arm expansionretraction
operation very uniformly, duly supported with pneumatic cylinders of
said jaw opening arms.
Another object of the present invention is to propose a pair of pneumatic
jaw opening arms, wherein free ends of each of said pair of pneumatic jaw
opening arms is structured as thin and firm forks, and wherein the collective

thickness of these two thin forks of said pair of arms is less than the distance
between two straight wings of the work piece of nail cutter main body.
Another object of the present invention is to propose single step
automatic/semi-automatic process for opening of the jaw of the main body of the
nail cutter/clipper, which involves almost no time in the operation.
Another object of the present invention is to propose optional automatic
loading of the work pieces of the nail cutter/clipper main body to the proposed jaw
opening machine.
Statement of the invention:
The present invention is intended to propose:
• a simple pneumatic device with two pneumatic jaw opening arms, being
operated and controlled by certain software/logic based controller;
• a pair of pneumatic jaw opening arms, wherein one end of each of these
arms are engaged at a common junction, and are provisioned to perform
arm expansion-retraction operation very uniformly, duly supported with
pneumatic cylinders of said jaw opening arms; and
• a pair of pneumatic jaw opening arms, wherein free ends of each of said
pair of pneumatic jaw opening arms is structured as thin and firm forks, and
wherein the collective thickness of these two thin forks of said pair of arms
is less than the distance between two straight wings of the work piece of
nail cutter main body.

Description of the invention:
The present invention is generally related to manufacturing process of nail
cutter/clipper and the machine involved therein, particularly related to jaw opening
process of the main body of the nail cutter/clipper and application of a simple
pneumatic device with two pneumatic jaw opening arms therein, as proposed
herein.
In the present invention the main body of the nail cutter/clipper, its nail
cutter/clipper head and its various components thereof are preferably made from
cold roll & close annealed (CRCA) mild steel material, preferably by involving
several operations towards cutting/slotting, bending & shaping, edge grinding and
electroplating etc.
In the present invention, the main body of the nail cutter, which is actually
provisioned with the nail cutter/trimmer head, is basically manufactured by metallic
sheet. The metallic work piece of the nail cutter main body is firstly slotted out from
the metal sheet of certain desired uniform thickness, preferably by die-pressing
process. Such initial work piece of the main body has two wings, created in the
same horizontal plane. One wing is preferably a uniform flat strip, while the other

wing is preferably slightly curved at its fee end. Then said initial work piece is
subjected to bending operation, preferably using automatic and customized 'Ushape'
bending machine, and consequentially the actual shape of two wings of the
nail cutter main body, preferably with the jaw of nail cutter/trimmer head, is
achieved. Before proceeding towards finalizing the shape of two wings of the nail
cutter/clipper and the jaw of the cutter/trimmer head thereof, said actual work
piece of the nail cutter main body undergoes certain other processes of
manufacturing, mainly related to strengthening and refining of structural features.
The distance between the inner surfaces of these two wings, facing each
other, is defined at the 'U-shape' bending stage. This inner distance between two
wings of the nail cutter main body, particular at their fee ends shaped as nail
cutter/trimmer hear, is very important for the present invention, being described
herein. At one end of the work piece of the nail cutter main body, said two parallel
wings are not completely separated from each other but are attached together,
mainly at U-shape bending segment. At free end of said two wings of the work
piece, the nail cutter/trimmer head is created by suitably shaping the free ends of
these two wings, initially almost parallel to each other, followed by grinding the
edges of two wings therein to finalize said nail cutter/trimmer heads.
Novel pneumatic device with a pair of pneumatic jaw opening arms is proposed
herein for opening the jaw of the nail cutter/trimmer head of the main body. Each
jaw opening arm of said machine is provisioned with one pneumatic cylinder for
expanding and retracting periodically.

Free ends of these two arms are structured as pair of thin and firm forks, and
wherein the collective thickness of these two thin forks is less than the distance
between two straight wings of the work piece of nail cutter main body. During its
operation, the jaw of the nail cutter/trimmer head of the work piece of the main
body is placed around the pair of thin forks of the pneumatic jaw opening arms,
either automatically or manually, depending upon the production quantity and time
involved therein. The pair of pneumatic jaw opening arms, through there
pneumatic cylinder undergo.expansion, leading to permanent expansion in two
wings of the nail cutter/clipper main body. After completing the expansion, said
pair of pneumatic cylinders of the jaw opening device get retracted, leading to
removal of the jaw of the nail cutter/trimmer head of the main body from the pair of
thin forks of the pneumatic jaw opening arms.
Thus one cycle of cylinder extension and retraction in the jaw opening
machine, in single step operation, is capable of permanently opening the jaw of
the nail cutter/trimmer head of the main body. The functioning of the jaw opening
machine and its periodic extension/retraction operation is controlled through
suitable software or logic of the controller applied therein. The said jaw opening
machine and its pneumatic cylinders are provisioned for continuous operation.
The sizes of pneumatic jaw opening arms and their pneumatic cylinders, extent
of extension/retraction of these arms and their cylinders, and angle of their mutual
assembly are so decided in the customized manner that single jaw opening
operation, by way of expanding the jaw of the nail cutter/clipper main body,

generates enough force to result permanent opening/widening of said jaw, wherein
the extent of expansion in the said jaw is pre-determined.
Shape of the nail cutter/trimmer head of said nail cutter/clipper, particular by
expanding outwardly, is so designed that it takes the shape of a jaw of the main
body of the nail cutter/clipper. Said jaw of the nail cutter/trimmer head is
responsible for holding the figure nail inside it, and on application of pressure
through the lever of said device therein, trims the nail at its sharp edges.
Scope of the invention:
Although the invention has been described with reference to specific embodiment,
this description is not meant to be construed in a limiting sense. Various
modifications of the disclosed embodiments, as well as alternate embodiments of
the invention, will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to
the description of the invention. It is therefore contemplated that such
modifications can be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the
present invention as defined.

We claim:
1. Main body jaw opening machine and its application in the manufacturing
of nail-cutter/clipper, wherein said main body jaw opening machine
comprises of a pair of pneumatic jaw opening arms and their control
mechanism; wherein said main body jaw opening process is
characterized by permanent opening of said jaw by applying single
expansion-retraction operation of said pair of pneumatic jaw opening
arms of the machine.
2. Main body jaw opening machine and its application in the manufacturing
of nail-cutter/clipper, as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of the
pneumatic jaw opening arms comprises of one pneumatic cylinder and
wherein one end of each of these arms in the said jaw opening machine
are engaged at a common junction, and are provisioned to perform arm
expansion-retraction operation very uniformly, duly supported with said
pneumatic cylinders of said jaw opening arms.
3. Main body jaw opening machine and its application in the manufacturing
of nail-cutter/clipper, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the expansionretraction
operation, in automation, of said pair of pneumatic jaw
opening arms is provisioned for being operated and controlled by certain
software/logic based controller.
4. Main body jaw opening machine and its application in the manufacturing
of nail-cutter/clipper, as claimed in claim 1, wherein free ends of each of
said pair of pneumatic jaw opening arms is structured as thin and firm

forks, and wherein the collective thickness of these two thin forks of said
pair of arms is less than the distance between two straight wings of the
work piece of nail cutter main body.
5. Main body jaw opening machine and its application in the manufacturing
of nail-cutter/clipper, as claimed in claim 1, wherein said jaw opening
machine is characterized by customized selection of the sizes of
pneumatic jaw opening arms and their pneumatic cylinders, extent of
extension/retraction of these arms and their cylinders thereof, and angle
of their mutual assembly towards carrying out such single jaw opening
operation, by way of expanding the jaw of the nail cutter/clipper main
body, which results permanent opening/widening of said jaw upto predetermined
extent.
6. Main body jaw opening machine and its application in the manufacturing
of nail-cutter/clipper, as claimed in claim 1, wherein said jaw opening
machine is characterized by single step automatic/semi-automatic
process for opening of the jaw of the main body of the nail cutter/clipper,
which involves almost no time in the said operation.
7. Main body jaw opening machine and its application in the manufacturing
of nail-cutter/clipper, as claimed in claim 1, wherein optional automatic
loading of the work pieces of the nail cutter/clipper main body to the U
proposed jaw opening machine is provisioned.
