Specification

This invention relates to the support structure required for measurement of optical
parameters of optical device (UUT). This support structure holds two different types of
stands, out of which one provides support to optical device & the other is responsible for
holding the light intensity measuring device. This arrangement is used for maintaining
proper alignment between the optical device under test & light intensity measuring device.
BACK GROUND OF THE INVENTION
Now a day, display modules are integral & essential part of various opto-electronics system
used in many fields for display of various parameters like navigational & attack parameters,
flight plans, geographical maps etc in avionics domain. In other domains like mobile
technology, satellite systems, GPS maps etc., display systems are most complex, critical &
informative devices. The reliability of such an electro-optical display system exposed to
varying ambient light conditions (from day to night) is tested by carrying out optical testing
of the system. The optical checks involve the checking of parameters related to brightness,
contrast & luminous intensity at various viewing angles & at every point of the raster screen
of display unit.
The present invention is a unique support plate assembly for carrying out the testing of
optical modules with help of light intensity measuring device.
SUMMARY OF PRESENT INVENTION
First aspect of manual optical bench plate assembly is to provide a rigid support to the
UUT stand at one end & to the chromameter support stand at the other end.
The second aspect of the present invention is to provide a desired focal length for
alignment between the UUT and the Chromameter.
The third aspect of the present invention is to provide an optical setup that can be properly
& effectively fastened to a movable trolley by lesser skilled individuals also.

The fourth aspect of the present invention is to provide flexibility for movement of Optical
fixture for varying viewing angles with respect to horizontal and vertical axes.
The fifth aspect of the present invention is to provide flexibility for movement of the X-Y
Carriage support of Chromameter.
The sixth aspect of the present invention is that the present invention is a light weight base
plate assembly which can be easily assembled & disassembled by lesser skilled
individuals.
Briefly, the present invention is a light weight optical bench support which caters for the
smooth testing of optical UUT along with easy & flexible movement of the optical UUT
stand at one end & the Chromameter support at the other end. Aluminium Alloy is used for
fabrication of the Base Assembly to achieve light weight & high rigidity characteristics.
Using the present invention, the brightness average angle, Contrast & Luminous intensity
of the optical UUT can be measured at different viewing angles.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The Isometric view in Fig-1 provides the pictorial view of the complete Optical fixture
consisting of the optical UUT stand, the Plate sub assembly and Light Intensity Measuring
Device stand.
The Fig-2 explains the complete Manual Optical Bench Plate Assy along with its subassemblies.
The detailed description is as follows:
􀂃 Mounting plate(1) made of Al. alloy have two surfaces ‘A’ & ‘B’, Surface ‘B’ rest on
base(3) and clamped through C’bore holes(15) with Allen screw(2) see Fig-3.

􀂃 Base(3) made of Al. alloy have surfaces ‘C’ & ‘D’ which are grinded & parallel within
0.050mm with each other. See Fig-4.
􀂃 Grinded surface ‘D’ of Base(3) rest on surface ‘C’ of feet(4) and clamped through 4
C’bore holes (16) with Allen screw(10). See Fig-5.
􀂃 Insert block (5) & (6) made of Al. alloy are welded with Feet(4) and have blind
threaded holes in it. Insert block (5) threaded holes, holds the Base(3) & Insert
block(6) threaded holes, holds the levelling screw(8).See Fig-5.
􀂃 Levelling screw (8) made of Mild Steel is fixed with Insert block(6) which provides
levelling for Manual Optic bench Plate Assy
􀂃 Lock nut (9) made of Standard Nut is used to fix the Levelling Screws (8) after
levelling the Manual Optic bench Plate Assy to maintain the levelling.
􀂃 Locking plate (13) made of Al. alloy is used to clamp L.H. side of Insert block (6)
with counter sink screw made of standard (14).
Figure-6 provides the overall block diagram of optical set-up related to optical UUT, light
intensity measuring device and plate assembly (which holds stands of both devices for
optical measurement checks).

Accordingly, the description of the present invention is to be considered as illustrative only and is for the purpose of teaching those skilled in the art of the best mode of carrying out the invention. The details may be varied substantially without departing from the spirit of the invention, and exclusive use of all modifications which are within the scope of the appended claims is reserved. We Claim:

1) An Optic bench Plate Assembly is a support system for the optical testing of a electro optical display device to be tested at varying view angles & at each point of the display screens. The brightness & contrast checks ultimately depend on the proper alignment of the optical device (Unit Under Test) & the Light Intensity Measuring Device (Chromameter). This Optic bench Plate Assembly comprising the Base Plate is adapted to be coupled to a movable trolley surface.

2) The Plate Assembly of claim 1 wherein, base stands on two insert blocks.

3) The Plate Assembly of claim 1 wherein, the Insert Blocks are mounted to the Base surface of the movable trolley through four levelling screws.

4) The Plate Assembly of claim 1 wherein, the optical UUT mounting stand is mounted on to the Base plate such that the optical UUT stand can have desired angular movement in Horizontal & Vertical axes.

5) The Plate Assembly of claim 1 wherein, a mounting plate is mounted on the other end of Plate Assy. Choromameter support stand (X-Y Carriage) is mounted on to the mounting plate.
