Abstract: A flexible container for storing and handling of chemicals; said flexible container comprising, an outer fabric layer of thickness 65 gsm to 300 gsm manufactured from a resin comprising polypropylene homopolymer, a lubricant, a UV stabilizer, an antioxidant, an anticorrosive agent; and an inner liner attached to inner surface of the outer fabric layer, said liner being of thickness 40 micron to 200 microns and manufactured from a polyolefinic resin having incorporated therein alkyl ammonium treated nanoclay and a compatibilizer.

THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION DESCRIBES THE INVENTION

Field of Invention
The present invention relates to packaging. Particularly the present invention relates to packaging material used for storage and transport of chemicals.
Background of the Invention
Flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs), also known as "big bags," "bulk bags," and "bulk sacks," were first manufactured in the late 1950s or early 1960s. These containers are used for storage and transport of various bulk materials including chemicals. Usually, flexible bulk goods containers are produced from flexible polypropylene tape.
When certain offensive chemicals including but not limited to TCCA and BCMH and halogenating compounds, are stored for longer times, because of the presence of moisture, the chemicals inside the bag, undergo chemical decomposition and release gases like chlorine, bromine and the like. These gases attack and degrade the PP fabric causing early wear and tear of the FIBCs.
Furthermore, such wear and tear also leads to leakage problems.
Problems associated with the storage of chemicals and especially chlorinating agents like TCCA have been disclosed in US Patent 4,334,610. One of the several approaches for overcoming the aforementioned problem arising out of the moisture content of the chemicals is to decrease the water content in the product, thereby preventing the generation of the gases and controlling the moisture content in the warehouse. However, it is almost practically impossible to industrially manufacture products virtually free of water. Furthermore,
controlling warehouse moisture levels is often a very expensive exercise.

Another approach to prevent interaction between the chemicals and the packaging material is to use metallic container. This approach too has serious drawback since the metallic materials are prone to corrosion.
In order to overcome the aforementioned problem of degradation of the chemicals because of the presence of moisture, FIBCS with a barrier layer in the form of inner liner are used. Such liner has a low permeability for water vapor, nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide. FIBCS with an inner liner made up of LDPE has been disclosed in US Patent 6,331,334.
Another fabric that is used in the preparation of FIBC s is polypropylene homopolymer.
However an inner liner made up of LDPE in itself does not suffice to completely make the FICB moisture proof.
US Application 2007/0106002 discloses a composition of polyolefmic resin for a film wherein hydrotalcite is used as an additive. However this US application does not deal with the particular application of such film in packaging material especially for the purpose of making storage articles like FIBC.
There is thus felt a need for a FIBC that is made up of an outer material which is sturdy and robust enough to withstand the variable climatic and processing conditions for longer periods of times and which has a moisture proof inner liner.

Object of the invention
It is an object of the present invention to provide a FIBC that is sturdy and moisture-proof.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a FIBC wherein the outer polypropylene fabric contains additives which renders it immune to decomposition.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a FIBC wherein the inner liner of the FIBC has improved barrier properties.
Description
In accordance with the present invention there is provided a FIBC made up of an outer polypropylene fabric with selected additives and an inner polyolefin liner with selected additives as well.
A typical non limiting composition of the polypropylene fabric comprises Polypropylene homopolymer, Calcium stearate(0.1 %), an UV stabilizer(0.4 %), an Antioxidant (0.2,) Nano zinc oxide(0.01 %,) Hydroxytalcite( 0.05 %)
Typically, the UV stabilizer is a 20 % concentrate of bis( 2,2,6,6- tetra Methyl-4-piperidyl ) Sebactate and Poly{[ 6-[( 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl butyl ) amino]-l,3,5-triazine-2,4-diyl][( 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinyl ) imino]-l,6-hexanediyl [( 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl- 4- piperidinyl ) imino )]} 80 in equal ratio: in polyolefin.

Typically, the antioxidant is a 20 % concentrate in a polyolefin of di( tert-butyl phenyl ) phosphate and tetrakis [ methylene-3 (3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxy phenyl )- propanoate ] Methane in equal mass ratio; in polyolefin.
A typical non-limiting composition of the inner liner comprises of a polyolefin, Alkyl ammonium treated nanoclay composites 4 % with a compatibilizer.
The polyolefin is at least one polyolefin selected from a group of polyolefins consisting of LLDPE, LDPE and HDPE.
While considerable emphasis has been placed herein on the specific ingredients of the preferred embodiment, it will be appreciated that many ingredients can be included and that many changes can be made in the preferred embodiment without departing from the principles of the invention. These and other change" in the preferred embodiment of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art from the disclosure herein, whereby it is to be distinctly understood that the foregoing descriptive matter is to be interpreted merely as illustrative of the invention and not as a limitation.
