Maximum Solar Power Tracking System And Method Of Operating Electrical Vehicles Using Combinational Energy Storage
Abstract: The invention proposes a combinational energy storage system and method of tracking maximum power point of PV modules(102) for solar vehicles(101). The system includes first(105) and second(106) storage units, PV module(102), a controller(103) running an algorithm for maximum power tracking and a charging circuit(104). The controller(103) is configured to control charging circuitry for selectively charging and discharging the storage units(105,106) using output of the PV module(102) and track a maximum power point for extracting a maximum power from the PV module(102). The method of tracking a maximum power point of the PV module(102) includes obtaining a diode model of the PV module(102). Further, a ratio(X) of voltage across the diode to thermal equivalent voltage and a maximum current through the diode is calculated. The maximum power is tracked by periodically estimating X. The disclosed system and method are configured to track maximum power point within a few milliseconds. (FIG. 1)
