The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
Mechanism for Voltage Connection Using Links
Field of the invention
The present invention generally relates to voltage connection mechanism, and more particularly, to a voltage connection mechanism used in three phase electronic static watt-hour meters.
Background of the invention
The watt-hour meters are the electricity meters which operate by continuously measuring the instantaneous voltage and current to give energy used. Generally, the watt-hour meter is required to have a voltage connection taken from primary wires thereof and terminated onto electronics. This is required to sense the voltage and also to power up the electronics.
Generally, sensing the voltage and powering up the electronics is achieved by using flexible insulated copper wires with suitable lugs that are either fastened or soldered on either ends to make a connection. However, this type of mechanism poses various issues such as assembly, error proofing and insulation problems.
Further, the copper wires must be manually connected to each phase and fastened or soldered thereto to make a connection, and there is always a risk of voltage wire getting cut due to bending of wires.
Accordingly, there exists a need to provide voltage connection mechanism which overcomes above-mentioned drawbacks.
Objects of the invention
An object of the present invention is to provide easy to assemble voltage connection mechanism.
Another object of the present invention is to provide reliable voltage mechanism for watt-hour meters.
Summary of the invention
Accordingly, the present invention provides a mechanism for voltage connection using links for watt-hour meter. The mechanism includes housing. Further, the mechanism includes a plurality of conductive terminals housed within the housing. The plurality of conductive terminal is capable of receiving service cables from utility connection. Furthermore, the mechanism includes a plurality of shorting links. Each shorting link of the plurality of shorting links is mounted on upper surface of each conductive terminal of the plurality of conductive terminals. Specifically, each shorting link is capable of locking the housing to prevent rotation thereof. Moreover, the mechanism includes a printed circuit board having openings configured therethrough for receiving upper portions of the plurality of shorting links thereby forming connection therebetween. Also, the mechanism includes a plurality of current transformers with copper strip. Each current transformer is secured to a side portion of each conductive terminal to form electrical connection between the plurality of conductive terminals and the plurality of shorting link.

Figure 1 shows a mechanism for voltage connection using links for watt-hour meter, in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 shows a shorting link used in mechanism of figure 1;
Figure 3 shows the shorting link and housing of the mechanism of figure 1; and
Figure 4 shows of printed circuit board and the shorting link of mechanism of figure 1.
Detailed description of the invention
The foregoing objects of the present invention are accomplished and the problems and shortcomings associated with the prior art techniques and approaches are overcome by the present invention as described below in the preferred embodiments.
Referring to figure 1-4, there is shown a mechanise for voltage connection using links for watt-hour meter, in accordance with the present invention. Specifically, figure 1 shows the mechanism (100). The mechanise (100) includes housing (10),
a plurality of conductive terminals (20), a plurality of shorting links (30), a printed
circuit board (50) and a plurality of current transformer (40).
The housing (100) is a terminal block used in watt-hour meter. In an embodiment, the housing is a plastic housing. The housing (10) includes a plurality of conductive terminals (20) housed therein. The plurality of conductive terminals (20) receives service cables from utility connection- The service cables are fastened to the plurality conductive terminals (20) using screws. Connecting the service cables to the plurality of conductive termmals (20) forms electrical connection therebetween. In an embodiment, the conductive terminal (20) is made of brass. The plurality of conductive terminals (20) includes a plurality of shorting links (30) mounted thereon.
Specifically, each shorting link of the plurality of shorting links (30) is mounted on upper surface of each conductive terminal of the plurity of conductive terminals (20). In an embodiment, each shorting link of the plurality of shorting links (30) is mounted on upper surface of each conductive terminal of the plurality of conductive terminals (20) using a screw (32). Further each shorting link the plurality of shorting links (30) is capable of locking the housing (10) to prevent rotation thereof. Specifically, each of the plurality of shorting links (30) as shown
in figure 1 has a tongue (30b) which locks with the housing (10) to prevent rotation thereof while the plurality of shorting links (30) are assembled to the plurality of conductive terminal (20).
In an embodiment, each shorting link of the plurality of shorting links (20) is an L shaped metal strip and suitably coated to aid soldering. The printed circuit board (PCB (50)) is mounted above the plurality of shorting links (30).
The PCB (50) includes a plurality of openings configured therethrough for receiving upper portions of the plurality of shorting links (30). The upper portions of the plurality of shorting links (30) are pin shaped portion which are soldered to the PCB (50) after assembly thereof thereby forming connection between the PCB (50) and the plurality of shorting links (30).
Further, the plurality of current transformers (40) with copper strip are transformer secured to a side portion of each conductive terminal of the plurality of conductive terminals (20) to form electrical connection between the plurality of conductive terminals (20) and the plurality of shorting link (30). In an embodiment, the plurality of current transformers (40) are fastened the plurality of conductive terminals by means of the screw (32).
The electrical connection between the PCB (50) and the plurality of shorting links (30) and the electrical connection between the plurality of current transformers (40) to the plurality of conductive terminals (20) completes a circuit of connection from service cable to the electronics,
Advantages of the invention
1. The mechanism (100) provides easy to assemble voltage connection mechanism.
2. The mechanism (100) provides reliable voltage mechanism for watt-hour
