A method of making an oil seal comprising the steps of:[i] making an outer annular ring [1] by punching a circle of required diameter in a sheet metal strip and forming & cutting another circle therein of predetermined diameter on a press machine with the help of a punching tool, flattening the formed ring 1, carrying out a facing & grooving operation on the ring 1 and forming an upper flange [8] , and protectively plating the ringl;[ii] making an inner annular ring [5] by punching a circle of required diameter in a sheet metal strip and forming & cutting another circle therein of predetermined diameter on a press machine with the help of a punching tool, flattening the formed ring [5], carrying out a facing operation on the ring [5], curling the edges of the inner ring [5] checking for fitment in the outer ring 1 and protectively plating the ring 5; [iii] making a functional lip [4] by performing a coining operation on a PTFE ring; and cutting the inner & outer diameter to a specified size on a press machine;[iv] making a dust lip [3] by performing a coining operation on a PTFE ring; and cutting the inner & outer diameter to a specified size on a press machine;\ [v] making an annular gasket [2] ring by cutting out the gasket from a resilient polymeric material sheet; [vi] making a wear sleeve [12] from CRCA material sheet by cutting the sheet into specified strip size on shearing machine and punching a circle of specified size on a press machine, removing burrs at the edges of the circle on a sander deburring14 machine; cleaning the CRCA circle in a vibrator deburring machine; carrying out a forming operation on press machine to get a desired height, carrying out a stamping and sizing operation on the ring to form a sleeve, cutting the outer diameter of sleeve to a specified size on press machine, removing the burr on outer diameter on sander deburring machine, facing and grooving the sleeve on a lathe machine; turning the oil seal mounting diameter of the sleeve and polish it with a polish paper; and phosphating the sleeve;[vii] assembling the oil seal by bringing together outer annular ring [1], inner annular ring [5], functional lip [4] , dust lip [3], two annular gaskets [2] by fitting the components together firmly with the help of a press machine and by folding over the upper flange [8] of the outer ring 1 over the inner ring by folding over the upper flange of outer ring 1 over the inner ring 5;[viii] curing the oil seal assembly;[ix] forming the lips with the help of a mandrel;[x] mounting the seal assembly on the wear sleeve with the helpof a mounting mandrel.
