Specification

TECHNICAL FIELD

The present disclosure relates to object recognition and tracking system. In particular  the disclosure relates to counting objects recognized utilizing video analysis technique.

BACKGROUND

Eating joints like coffee shops  restaurants and canteen serve food and beverages in cutleries. These cutleries include cups  bowls  glasses etc. A large number of cutleries are moved across the counter each day in which food and beverages are served to customer. It is  therefore  necessary to keep a count of the cutleries being moved across the counter  i.e. the cutlery going to the customers should return back to the counter. Also  many restaurants would like to have an approximate estimate of how many cups or glasses of drinks are being served each day. Currently  at the end of each day  the cutleries are counted manually and the sales for the day are checked. This is however a complicated task.

Conventional systems like Closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance systems and web cameras are used in different fields for counting people or objects on a conveyor belt at a shopping center. These systems have the potential to reduce crime  prevent theft  and generally increase security in a variety of environments. However  this system has not been used at any eating joint to recognize objects and detect direction of movement of the object to count the objects and maintain inventory.

Presently  no method or systems exists to automatically count the objects including cutleries being passed across the counter. Therefore  there is need to overcome the above mentioned problem by providing a system and a method for counting objects using video analysis
