Abstract: The invention relates to decoding received symbols corresponding to Pulse Amplitude Modulation constellation symbols as transmitted via a real valued multiple input multiple output channel. A detector device performs a lattice reduction from a channel matrix representative of the multiple input multiple output channel. For each dimension of the channel matrix the detector performs an Integer Row Echelon decomposition based pre processing on the basis of the reduced channel matrix. For each target value that can be taken among the target values of the Pulse Amplitude Modulation constellation the detector performs a translation of the received symbols determines intermediate symbol estimates from the translated symbols and converts the intermediate symbol estimates in order to obtain estimates of the transmitted symbols.
