Method And System For Automatic Assessment Of Handwritten Content

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for analysis and assessment of handwritten content of a user. The method includes receiving, at a transceiver unit [102], at least one digital image of a handwritten assignment of a user; pre-processing, by a processing unit [104], the received at least one digital image to identify and extract textual content; comparing, by a comparator unit [106], the extracted textual content with content of one or more sources to determine a plagiarism index; analyzing, by an analyzing unit [108] using a trained model, the extracted textual content to assess content quality; computing, by the processing unit [104], a grade based on at least one of the determined plagiarism index, and content quality assessment; and generating, by a generating unit [110], a feedback report based on the computed. Specification

1. A method for automated assessment of handwritten assignments the method comprising:
receiving, at a transceiver unit [102], at least one digital image of a handwritten
assignment of a user;
pre-processing, by a processing unit [104], the received at least one digital image to
identify and extract textual content;
10 comparing, by a comparator unit [106], the extracted textual content with content of
one or more sources to determine a plagiarism index;
analyzing, by an analyzing unit [108] using a trained model, the extracted textual
content to assess content quality;
computing, by the processing unit [104], a grade based on at least one of the
15 determined plagiarism index, and content quality assessment; and
generating, by a generating unit [110], a feedback report based on the computed grade.
2. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the method comprises rendering, by a display
unit [112], the generated feedback report.
20
3. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pre-processing comprises employing optical
character recognition (OCR) technique to convert the handwritten assignment into machinereadable text.
25 4. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more sources comprises websites,
journals, blogs, books, articles, institutional repositories and standardized test answers.
5. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the trained model is trained based on historical
assessment data.
30
28
6. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the method further comprises flagging, by the
processing unit [104], assignment with a plagiarism index above a predetermined threshold
for manual review.
5 7. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the trained model comprises any or a combination
of recognition model, a deep learning model and a natural language processing model (NLP).
8. The method as claimed in claim 1, further comprises performing a plurality of assessment
tasks based on the analysis.
10
9. A system for automatic assessment of handwritten contents, the system comprising:
a transceiver unit [102] configured to receive, at least one digital image of a
handwritten assignment of a user;
a processing unit [104] configured to pre-process the received at least one digital image
15 to identify and extract textual content;
a comparator unit [106] configured to compare the extracted textual content with
content of one or more sources to determine a plagiarism index;
an analysing unit [108] configured to analyse, using a trained model, the extracted
textual content to assess content quality;
20 the processing unit [104] configured to compute a grade based on at least one of the
determined plagiarism index, and content quality assessment; and
a generating unit [110] configured to generate a feedback report based on the computed
grade.
25 10. The system as claimed in claim 9, wherein the system further comprises a display unit [112]
configured to render the generated feedback report
