The present subject matter described herein, in general, relates field of purchasing items using the user device. The present subject matter relates more particularly to the method and system for facilitating a user to purchase items using a user device over a communication network such as the internet.
BACKGROUND
The growing internet and mobile phone penetration has resulted in growth of electronic commerce using the internet. Purchasers are ordering items through online websites and applications running on mobile phones. The mobile applications run on client machines (mobile) and communicate to the central server via the internet. The purchaser places the order through the application running on mobile. The purchaser is presented with a catalogue of items to be selected from. Once the items are selected by the purchaser from an online catalogue, these are added into a cart. The purchaser then goes to the checkout page to confirm the order. The billing, shipping address and payment details are then filled up by the purchaser to finish the order. These order details are then sent to the central server. The vendor owning the application fulfills the ordered items through their warehouses or through third party merchants who partner the vendor in fulfilling the order by supplying the ordered items to the purchaser.
The purchaser has to follow multiple steps to order items or re-order the items purchased once using electronic commerce. For an instance, the steps for making a purchase of any item will include, enabling internet services on the mobile, download of the particular application on the mobile, installation of application, registration of the purchaser by filling-in the required details such as purchaser name and payment details etc., item selection from the item catalogue, adding the item to the shopping cart, order review and filling of the checkout details before making a purchase. The re-ordering of items from the same vendor will definitely require lesser number of steps, like the purchaser will not have to download and install the application again, register for unique identification number or even fill
in the billing and shipping information and payment details again, as these can be easily stored on the central server of the vendor by the purchaser during the first time purchase itself to minimize the risk of online interception of sensitive information and theft of the same. Nevertheless, it is not necessary that the purchaser will re-order the items using the application of the same vendor for various reasons, the purchaser can go to the application offered by other vendors for ordering the items for reasons like lower prices, better quality, availability, assured delivery, better service experience or can visit physical fulfilment centres for ordering the items to get a better offer or save time. The multiple steps involved in ordering and re-ordering of items using a mobile application only make it a cumbersome method of purchase. Also, with this kind of method of purchase the purchaser has to wait for the item to get delivered to their homes for a long time usually numbering in many hours, often days.
Further a barcode or QR code scanner is used to capture the bar code or QR code of items. The scanners can be based on laser technology, infrared sensor based or camera based. These scan the particular area on any item for the barcode or QR codes. The bar code and QR codes are based on the EAN/UPC standards. The scanners working on camera based sensors, capture the image of the barcode or QR code and decode it based on an algorithm following the EAN or UPC standard. The barcode or QR code provides unique identification to every product, besides providing other relevant information such as batch number or lot number, etc, which are necessary for the inventory management at the retailers and wholesalers.
In the view of all the above scenarios, one can conclude that there is a long extending need to make such a device and method which will reduce the user efforts and time required for ordering the items and reduce the time required for the items to get delivered to the purchaser and enables item purchase through scanning the physical items for unique barcodes, images of any other form of unique product code or identifier.
