Abstract: A method (75) and system (100) for wirelessly updating parameter of a vehicle engine control unit (30) is disclosed. An engine control unit updating module (12) is configured on a backend server (10). A vehicle communication interface (28) is configured to the vehicle engine control unit (30). The backend server (10) is wirelessly connected with the engine control unit (30) by a wireless application module (22) installed on a on the mobile communication device (20) using an encryption algorithm (24) and a security authentication process (26). The engine control unit (30) is unlocked with a key (31) generated by the backend server (10) after establishing the secured communication between the backend server (10) and the engine control unit (30). An update from the backend server (10) is received via the wireless communication device (20) and the engine control unit parameters is securely updated via the vehicle communication interface (28). WE CLAIM:
1. A method (75) for wirelessly updating parameter of a vehicle engine control
unit (30), comprising:
configuring an engine control unit updating module (12) on a backend server (10);
coupling a plurality of vehicle communication interface (28) to a vehicle engine control unit (30);
wirelessly connecting the backend server (10) with the engine control unit (30) by a wireless application module (22) installed on a mobile communication device (20) in a secured manner; and
receiving an update from the backend server (10) via the wireless communication device (20) and securely updating the engine control unit (30) parameters via the vehicle communication interface (28).
2. The method (75) of claim 1, further comprising:
wirelessly connecting the backend server (10) with the engine control unit (30) using an encryption algorithm (24) and a security authentication process (26) by the wireless application module (22) installed on the mobile communication device (20);
performing a handshake process (29) by the wireless application module (22) for pairing the mobile communication device with the engine control unit (30); and
unlocking the engine control unit (30) with a key (31) generated by the backend server (10) after establishing the secured communication between the backend server (10) and the engine control unit (30).
3. The method (75) of claim 1, wherein the engine control unit updating module
(12) comprises the steps of:
adjusting an engine control unit parameter, testing an engine control unit actuator and flashing an engine control unit software.

4. The method (75) of claim 1, wherein the vehicle communication interface (28) includes a K-Line serial communication (56), a Controller Area Network (52, 54) and a Local Interconnect Network (58).
5. The method (75) of claim 1, further comprising:
initiating a flashing sequence from the backend server (10) to the engine control unit (30) via the wireless communication device (20); and
erasing the flashing sequence from the wireless communication device (20) once the engine control unit (30) software flashing process is completed.
6. The method (75) of claim 1, further comprising integrating the backend server (10) with a vehicle control unit or an on board diagnostic port via the wireless communication device (20) installed with the wireless application module (22) for updating the parameters of the engine control unit (30).
7. A system (100) for wirelessly updating parameters of a vehicle engine control unit (30), comprising:
an engine control unit (30) disposed in a vehicle (32);
a plurality of vehicle communication interface (28) coupled to the engine control unit (30);
an engine control unit updating module (12) configured on a backend server (10);
a wireless communication device (20) installed with an wireless application module (22) for communication with the engine control unit (30) to,
wirelessly connect the backend server (10) with the engine control unit
(30) by the wireless application module (22) installed on the mobile
communication device (20) in a secured manner; and
receive an update from the backend server (10) via the wireless
communication device (20) and securely updating parameters of the engine
control unit (30) via the vehicle communication interface (28).

The system (100) of claim 7, further comprising a vehicle interface system (50) that communicates with the engine control unit (30) includes a flash memory (68), a random access memory (72), and a microprocessor (70) to support the vehicle communication interface (28) and the wireless communication device (20) with adequate memory and a security algorithm to connect to the vehicle (32) and the wireless communication device (20).
9. The system (100) of claim 7, wherein the wireless communication device (20) connects the backend server (10) with the engine control unit (30) using an encryption algorithm (24) and a security authentication process (26) and unlocks the engine control unit (30) with a key (31) generated by the backend server (10) after establishing the secured communication between the backend server (10) and the engine control unit (30).
10. The system (100) of claim 7, wherein the engine control unit updating module (12) comprises an engine control unit parameter adjustment module (14), an engine control unit actuator testing module (16) and an engine control unit software flashing module (18).
11. The system (100) of claim 7, wherein the vehicle communication interface (28) includes a K-Line serial communication (56), a Controller Area Network (52, 54) and a Local Interconnect Network (58).
12. The system (100) of claim 7, wherein the engine control unit software flashing module (18) initiates a flashing sequence from the backend server (10) to the engine control unit (30) via the wireless communication device (20) and erase a flashing sequence from the wireless communication device (20) once the engine control unit software flashing process is completed.
13. The system (100) of claim 7, wherein the backend server (10) is integrated with a vehicle control unit or an On Board Diagnostic (ODB) port via the wireless

communication device (20) installed with the wireless application module (22) for updating the engine control unit (30) parameters.
14. The system (100) of claim 7, wherein the wireless communication device (20) comprises at least one of a smartphone or a tablet computing device.
15. The system of (100) claim 7, wherein the wireless communication device (20) communicates with the vehicle communication interface (28) via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
