Method For Extraction Of Ginger Oil

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for extraction of ginger oil. Ginger from a Satara variety of ginger. The ginger is washed with one or more of aqueous solution. The ginger is further crushed to obtain fibre material and juice. An extract is obtained based on addition of solvent to the fibre material in a reflux system at a standard temperature and standard pressure for a predefined time. The ginger oil and a recovered solvent are obtained based on separating the solvent from the extract. The solvent is separated from the extract based on performing a distillation process at a temperature of 60-70 0C for a predefined time.

PRIORITY INFORMATION
[001] This patent application does not claim priority from any application.

TECHNICAL FIELD
[002] The present subject matter described herein, in general, relates to a ginger oil, and in particularly a method for extraction of ginger oil.

BACKGROUND

[003] Generally, Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is used as a flavoring agent, and as a medicinal remedy. Ginger is one of the most widely used spices in the world. Ginger contains various phytochemicals, which are produced by plants through primary or secondary metabolism. The characteristic fragrance and flavor of ginger is a result from volatile oils that compose 1-3% of the weight of fresh ginger.
[004] Recovery of the phytochemicals found in the fresh ginger is dependent on the type of method used to extract the ginger oil. Method parameters are optimized in order to increase yield of the phytochemicals and to improve the quality of the ginger oil obtained.
[005] Ginger oil generally contains primarily consisting of bioactive compounds like zingerone, shogaols, and gingerols with [6]-gingerol (1-[4'-hydroxy-3'-methoxyphenyl]-5-hydroxy-3-decanone) as the major pungent compound. The phytochemical profile of the ginger oil varies from various varieties and ISO grades of ginger. Common methods to obtain the ginger oil is a process of solvent extraction, supercritical carbon di-oxide extraction process, and liquid-liquid microextraction.

SUMMARY
[006] Before the present method is described, it is to be understood that this application is limited to the particular method described. It is also to be understood that the terminology used in the description is for the purpose of describing the particular versions or embodiments only, and is not intended to limit the scope of the present application. This summary is provided to introduce concepts related to method for extraction of ginger oil and the concepts are further described below in the detailed description. This summary is not intended to identify essential features of the claimed subject matter nor is it intended for use in determining or limiting the scope of the claimed subject matter.
[007] In one implementation, a method for extraction of ginger oil is disclosed. The process comprises obtaining ginger from a Satara variety of ginger. Further, washing the ginger with one or more of aqueous solution. The process further comprises of crushing the ginger to obtain fibre material and juice. The ginger is crushed using a pulveriser. Furthermore, an extract is obtained based on addition of solvent to the fibre material in a reflux system at a standard temperature and standard pressure for a predefined time. The process further comprises obtaining the ginger oil and a recovered solvent based on separating the solvent from the extract. The solvent is separated from the extract based on performing a distillation process at a temperature of 60-70 0C for a predefined time.
