Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method of treatment of subabul shoots for improved rooting features, which is superior over known methods in that the instant method reduces nursery time, improves rooting percentage, and root architecture. The present disclosure provides a method of treatment of subabul shoots, said method comprising: obtaining mother plants of subabul and pruning all vertical stems except main stem to facilitate emergence of lateral shoots; selecting and cutting lateral shoots with apical bud, which are at an angle of about 35-60° from the main stem and of about 25-30cm length; planting said lateral shoots from step (b) in a rooting medium; and obtaining plantlets from step (c) which have roots all around the stem emerging from at least 2 cms length from the base of the shoot.
Claims:1. A method of treatment of subabul shoots, said method comprising:
a. obtaining mother plants of subabul and pruning all vertical stems except main stem to facilitate emergence of lateral shoots;
b. selecting and cutting lateral shoots with apical bud, which are at an angle of about 35-60° from the main stem and of about 25-30cm length;
c. planting said lateral shoots from step (b) in a rooting medium; and
d. obtaining plantlets from step (c) which have roots all around the stem emerging from at least 2 cms length from the base of the shoot.
2. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein step (c) and step (d) takes about 40-80 days.
3. The method as claimed in claim 2, wherein step (c) and step (d) takes about 50-70 days.
4. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said rooted plantlets have roots all around the stem and roots at least 2 cm along the sides of the shoot, said rooted plantlets are essentially free of lignification near the pith, said rooted plantlets cross-section comprises at least 40-60% vessels, said rooted plantlets pith is not more than 20% of the shoot, and said rooted plantlets have 18-22 roots per plantlet.
5. The method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising treating lateral shoots with at least one plant hormone for rooting.
6. The method as claimed in claim 5, wherein said at least one plant hormone is selected from the group consisting of napthaleneacetic acid, indole-3-butyric acid, and combinations thereof.
7. The method as claimed in claim 5, wherein said at least one plant hormone weight concentration is in the range of 4000-6000 ppm.
8. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said method improves rooting percentage of subabul shoots.
9. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said method promote root distribution around the shoot, number of emerging roots, or shoot length with emerging roots in subabul shoots.
10. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said method decrease time duration of obtaining hardened rooted plantlets from cut lateral shoots.
11. The method as claimed in claim 1, comprising:
a. obtaining mother plants of subabul and pruning all vertical stems except main stem to facilitate emergence of lateral shoots;
b. selecting and cutting lateral shoots with apical bud, which are at an angle of about 35-60° from the main stem and of about 25-30cm length;
c. planting said lateral shoots from step (b) in a rooting medium; and
d. obtaining plantlets from step (c) which have roots all around the stem emerging from at least 2 cms length from the base of the shoot,
wherein steps (c) through step (d) is carried out in a nursery comprising: (i) growing lateral shoots in a mist chamber for 15-25 days, wherein mist chamber temperature is maintained at about 32-38°C with relative humidity of 85-90%; (ii) transferring the shoots to shade net for 10-20 days; and (iii) removing shade net and allowing shoots to harden for 20-40 days.
