PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and The manner in which it is to be performed.
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to method to determine a fuel efficient driving pattern of a vehicle
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Fuel efficiency is a very important customer satisfaction parameter on a vehicle. Most of the customers are now aware of the importance of the fuel consumption on the vehicle. The customers are now exploring various avenues of improving the fuel efficiency of their vehicle. In such circumstances it is essential to deliver to customer a proven fuel efficient driving pattern of the vehicle. One way of achieving better fuel efficiency on the vehicle is by changing the drive dynamics of the vehicle in favor of fuel efficiency. To change the drive dynamics, there should be a drive cycle which ensures that the vehicles are always driven in the better fuel economy zone. This driving pattern will change the drive dynamics of the vehicle according to the boundary conditions of the drive pattern.
OBJECTS OF INVENTION
The object of the invention is to provide a method to determine a fuel efficient driving pattern of a vehicle
Another major objective is to provide a method to determine a fuel efficient driving pattern of a vehicle and demonstrate the usage of the derived driving pattern on the vehicle.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
In accordance with the present invention, a method to determine a fuel efficient driving pattern of a vehicle comprising the step of;
-2-
• Providing the Global Positioning System (GPS) on the test vehicle,
• Driving the said test vehicle in various customer centric drive pattern,
• Mapping the various vehicle parameters during each drive pattern,
• Determining the percentage of time spent in each speed range from mapped data,
• Measure the fuel efficiency of the test vehicle during each drive pattern.
• Wherein said parameters in accordance with the present invention are vehicle speed, distance traveled, route followed and acceleration or deceleration of the test vehicle.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a method to determine Hill efficient driving pattern of a vehicle comprising the steps of providing a GPS on the test vehicle, driving said vehicle at different customer centric drive patterns, mapping and recording in the GPS parameters such as vehicle speed, distance of travel, route of the test drive, acceleration and deceleration of the vehicle during the test drive in a predetermined sequence, and determining the percentage of time spent on each speed range from the recorded data and measuring the fuel efficiency of the test vehicle during each drive pattern.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Figure-01 shows the graph of speed level variation with driving cycle.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
Referring now to the drawings wherein the showings are for the purpose of illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention only, and not for the purpose of limiting the same,
- 3-
In accordance with the present invention, a method to determine a fuel efficient driving pattern of a vehicle comprising the step of;
• Providing the GPS system on the test vehicle,
• Driving the said test vehicle in various customer centric drive pattern,
• Mapping the various vehicle parameters during each drive pattern, The GPS fitted on the vehicle will capture various parameters in a predetermined sequence. This predetermined sequence can be number of reading per second and the format of the readings.
• Determining the percentage of time spent in each speed range from mapped data. Plot a graph as shown in figure having speed in X-axis and percentage time spent in Y-axis. Plot the same graph for all the drive patterns.
• Measuring the fuel efficiency of the test vehicle during each drive pattern.
Wherein said parameters in accordance with the present invention are vehicle speed, distance traveled, route followed and acceleration or deceleration of the test vehicle.
Customer centric pattern means the approach taken by various customers to drive the vehicle. This will change depending on profile of the customer. In this invention, three different drive pattern was simulated. The three patterns are (a) Drive between 70-75kph, Controlled driving (b) Normal driving 75-85kph (c) Rash driving 80-95kph.
The drive pattern defined in terms of percentage of time spend in each speed range and best fuel efficiency is the fuel efficient drive pattern for that particular vehicle.
The graph shown in figure shows the detail of the percentage of time utilized in each speed range for various drive patterns. The fuel efficiency in each drive pattern is also shown in the figure. The fuel efficient drive pattern is the pattern which has maximum utilization in the speed range of 70-75kmph. The fuel efficiency observed

in this pattern is 24.19kmpl. This drive pattern can be considered as the economy and optimum drive pattern for the particular range of vehicle.
The foregoing description is a specific embodiment of the present invention. It should be appreciated that this embodiment is described for purpose of illustration only, and that numerous alterations and modifications may be practiced by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. It is intended that all such modifications and alterations be included insofar as they come within the scope of the invention as claimed or the equivalents thereof.
