Methods And System For Clearance Control In A Turbine Engine Assembly
Abstract: Described is a method of operating a turbine engine assembly having a gas turbine engine with a casing, a compressor, and a turbine having a plurality of rotating components. The method includes actuating a control valve to selectively channel a compressed air flow from the compressor to a heat transfer system formed in a wall of the casing. The method also includes increasing a rate of thermal expansion of the casing via the compressed air flow. In addition, the method includes controlling a clearance gap between the rotating components and the casing. Control of the clearance gap is achieved by selectively channeling the compressed air flow from one of a plurality of extraction ports in the compressor. Each extraction port is associated with a different temperature of the compressed air flow.
