Abstract: The invention is a low cost Microwave sensor based earthquake alarm which is efficient and highly sensitive. The invention consists of a number of components which can be replaced from time to time depending on the technical need. The outer frame is transparent made up of plexi glass and is strong and durable. Inside this frame, the microwave motion detector device is placed with sensor pointing upwards. The device runs on a 220 V AC supply and has connections for input and output load connector. The microwave sensor is provided with adjustable controls for LUX, SENS and TIME which can be easily adjusted . The microwave sensor device can handle an output load of 1200 Watts. Placed directly above the microwave device is a hanging pendulum consisting of an object which shall be detected by the sensor once there is movement in it. In order to make the movement flexible in all directions, the pendulum, which is a small plastic object, is hanged by two thin, low tension springs. Once there is a slight movement at the base, it is amplified by this hanging spring arrangement . Mounted on the frame, is a siren device. This device makes a loud noise of the order of 100db. This device can be replaced with devices of lower noise range, particularly in small areas. The siren is connected to the output of the sensor device. Once there is a movement, it is detected by the sensor, which in turn sends a current to the siren. Although the invention is provided with a loud siren, yet the siren can be replaced with an electric bell, musical bell etc as per need. The earthquake detector can be placed on solid ground, in a remote corner to avoid interference from day to day activity. It is preferred to keep the alarm in the top most part of the building as we normally get more vibrations there. This invention is more useful during night as sometimes we may not notice earthquake vibration in our sleep and may not get enough time to move to a safe zone.
1. Size of the outer frame:- H=L=W=15 CMS
2. Frame material:- Plastic vertical elements with plexiglass base sheet.

5. Maximum load on output of sensor=1200 Watts.
6. Sensor detection angle =360 degrees
7 . Spring length=3 CMS
8. Adjustable controls :- LUX, SENS and TIME
9. Mounted siren material=Plastic
10. Siren output noise= 100db plus
11. Siren coverage :- More than 100 Meters in all directions.
12. Siren frequency=800 Hz to 1200Hz
13. Total weight of the assembly= Around 250 Grams
WORKING OF Microwave Sensor Based Earthquake Alarm
1. Place the alarm on solid ground of your building floor.
2. It is preferred to place the alarm at the highest floor
3. Connect the alarm to the 220 Volts power supply by the provided wire.
4. With a slight movement, the attached spring pendulum will move.
5 The motion will be detected by the microwave sensor.
6. The sensor will send current to the siren which will give a loud noise.
7. Once the earthquake is over, switch off the siren.
8. Switch on the siren again to detect the next earthquake.
CLAIMS ( 3)
I / We claim that ;
(1) The alarm is highly sensitive
(2) The alarm will give a loud noise on the slightest movement.
(3) The attached siren will be heard in any part of the building.
