, Description:Technical field of the Invention:
The present invention generally relates to a mobile application for learning self-defense, and, more particularly, to a method and system for assisting the users to teach self-defense for the students in the educational institutions.
Background and prior art:
Self-defense is a countermeasure that a person executes in case of attack on self from an assailant or attacker. The self-defense involves defending the attack from the attackers using various techniques that can prevent the latter from being harmed. The use of the right of self-defense is very important as, the wrong move can cause injuries to the person executing the technique. There are different forms of self-defense that require physical training which includes Ju-Jitsu, karate, kung-fu, martial arts and so on. The physical self-defense is the use of physical force to counter the attack of the assailant.
Many styles of martial arts are practiced for self-defense or include self-defense techniques. Some styles train primarily for self-defense, while other martial or combat sports can be effectively applied for self-defense. Some martial arts train how to escape from a knife or gun situation, or how to break away from a punch, while others train how to attack. To provide more practical self-defense, many modern martial arts schools now use a combination of martial arts styles and techniques, and will often customize self-defense training to suit individual participants. The armed self-defense includes use of a wide variety of weapons can be used for self-defense. The most suitable technique depends on the threat presented, the victim or victims, and the experience of the defender, which can include firearms, knives, batons, pepper spray and personal stun guns and tasers, and many more.
The mental self-defense is the ability to get into the proper mindset for executing a physical self-defense technique. Many martial arts schools and self-defense classes focus primarily on the physical nature of self-defense and often neglect the mental aspect. If you are skilled in the physical aspects of a defensive technique, but lack the mental toughness and tenacity to execute it, you will not be able to perform - especially under duress.
Not many schools and colleges around the world have the self-defense taught as a compulsory subject, which can lead to many students not knowing how to defend themselves in case of threats, which leads to physical i.e. sexual harassment especially in case of girls, which has a negative impact on them. Therefore there is a need for a system which can help the teachers in the schools and colleges to teach each and every student about various self-defense techniques so that they can defend themselves in case of any attack and not depend on other to save them.
Objectives of the invention:
The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a system for teaching self-defense techniques.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide a system for teaching self-defense techniques using a software application, and a virtual assistant.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide a system for teaching self-defense techniques as a part of school curriculum in the primary, secondary schools and in colleges.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide a system for teaching self-defense techniques using a virtual assistant where the input can be provided through an audio and the output can be obtained in the form of videos which explain the different ways of self-defense techniques step-by-step tutorials along with pictures, in the manner in which students can understand better.
Summary of the invention:
The present invention discloses a system and method for teaching self-defense techniques. The components of the present invention includes an electronic device such as a laptop, tablet or mobile phone with an active internet connection or a Wi-Fi connection, a software application having features including virtual assistant feature, voice recognition feature and a database containing the information and step-by-step tutorials of all the self-defense techniques along with the images and the manner in which they have to be performed.
The present invention discloses a system and method for teaching self-defense techniques, where the electronic device such as a laptop, tablet or mobile phone is installed with the software application with the help of the internet or Wi-Fi prior to usage of the application. Detailed description of the invention
The present invention discloses a system and method for teaching self-defense techniques. The components of the present invention includes an electronic device such as laptop, computer system, tablet or even a mobile phone with a projector device (optional), with an active internet connection or a Wi-Fi connection, a software application having features including virtual assistant feature, voice recognition feature and a database containing all the necessary information about the self-defense techniques in audio-video format.
FIG 1 is the flowchart illustrating the method employed for teaching self-defense techniques using the software application. Referring to FIG 1, the electronic device such as a computer system, laptop, tablet or a smartphone is installed with the software application with the help of the internet or Wi-Fi. The user would have to register themselves with the software application using a user ID and a password for access in future. Post registration the user would have to create a personalized database, for example if a school is teaching the self-defense techniques to their students, they can create a database with certain self-defense techniques. The audio input is provided to the software application which is recognized by the voice recognition feature in the software application and the audio input is converted to the text format to perform search in the database to retrieve the specific information on the provided input. Once the information is retrieved, the software application provides output in audio-video format which is displayed on the screen, to enable the students to learn the technique and grasp the information quickly.
According to the present invention, the software application is linked directly to a database which contains all the information related to the various self-defense techniques, which can include the meaning of the self-defense techniques, origin, methods, levels, formats and so on. The database can be updated by the user with the other self-defense techniques time-to-time. As the electronic devices have an easy access to internet, and irrespective of time and place, anyone can use the electronic devices for teaching the self-defense techniques. The software application can be used to teach the self-defense techniques as a part of their curriculum. As the methods explained in the software application are very simple, the children can grasp them quickly and perfect them, than as in the classroom teaching or in other classes which are usually taken 4-5 days per week.
There are several benefits of the present invention which includes:
a. easy and interactive way of learning;
b. Inexpensive access to different self-defense techniques which usually cost several thousand rupees for each technique, if learnt outside in the courses; and
c. Alternate mode of learning along with the classroom learning;
There are several advantages of the present invention.
The primary advantage of the present invention is that learning self-defense techniques at a younger age helps an individual to defend themselves without the support of anyone.
Another advantage of the present invention is that learning self-defense techniques using a software application, helps the children to grasp the information at a faster pace.
There are several benefits for the children due to learning of the self-defense techniques which includes:
a. Improvement of physical fitness and coordination, where the children become more active sue to the physical exercise and they can maintain their fitness.
b. Improves concentration and discipline in the students.
c. Improves self-confidence
d. Develops assertiveness, tenacity and determination.
e. Develops communication, listening and social skills.
f. Teaches awareness of danger
g. Teaches gentle solutions to bullying, ragging and rough play
h. Helps the children to stay safe and avoid accidents
