Abstract: The present invention of the Applicant is a mobile dehydration plant for fruits and vegetables, which comprises of a pre-dryer and a main dryer connected via elevator conveyors, a hot air generator, integrated with trailers to enable convenient transportation of the dehydration plant to the farming sites where dehydration process can be carried out. When taken to the farming site, the raw material, i.e. vegetables and fruits can be fed into the mobile dehydration plant, which are processed in three stages, i.e. pre-processing stage and then dehydration stage in the pre-dryer as well as the main dryer. The present invention of the Applicant, being a mobile dehydration plant, has an input capacity of more than 200 kilograms per hour and takes 6 hours for total dehydration process, when compared to conventional bulky dehydrators, which take more than 12 hours for dehydration. Since the present invention of the Applicant works on ‘air-to-air’ heating mechanism and uses high powered high efficiency air blowers and hot air generators, the moisture content in the vegetables and fruits that put into the mobile dehydration plant, reduces to only 6-7%, which in turn increases the shelf-life of the output material. Further, existing dehydrators in the market are not having dedicated mechanism for eliminating micro-organisms that might develop on the vegetable during the process of dehydration, however, in the present invention of the Applicant, UV lights are strategically placed throughout to eliminate any sort of microbial development.
Description:Since the present invention of the Applicant is mobile in nature while still having huge input size, it can be carried to the plantation site and the farmers can just feed in the vegetables and fruits in the present invention of the Applicant to start the dehydration process. The present invention of the Applicant consists of a pre-processing unit, a pre-dryer and a main dryer, all connected via elevator conveyors, drying assisted with hot air generator, mounted strategically on top of trailers to enable convenient transportation to the site of farming for dehydration of fresh produce. Detailed description of all the stages related to the working of the invention is as produced below:
a) Pre-Processing Stage: Working of the dehydration process starts with pre-processing, wherein the raw material is first put on the inspection conveyor. Here the raw material is inspected for any unwanted material like leaves, stems, under ripen pieces etc. which are removed from the processing. After inspection, raw material goes to triple washer, where in it is thoroughly washed with plain water, hypo solution and then again with plain water so as to remove any farm chemical, dust, dirt etc. After washing the raw material travels to slicer/ dicer, which cuts the raw material in to smaller pieces of desired shape and size. The cut pieces then go to a vibrating unit in order to remove any loose surface water. The material is then collected in crates or bins to be loaded in the dehydrator;
b) Dehydration process in Pre-Dryer: The cut raw material prepared in pre-processing stage is then fed to a Rotary metering device. This device loads the elevator conveyor with a fixed quantity of raw material per hour. The elevator conveyor then drops the raw material on to the first belt of pre dryer where a twin direction screw evenly spreads the raw material on the entire width of the belt. This belt then carries the raw material to the opposite end, and drops it to the next belt. This processes goes on till the raw material reaches to the final end of the fifth belt where it drops on to the second elevator conveyor having equal width as that of the belts. Rotating levelers are used to maintain uniform spreading and leveling of material on each belt from second to fourth. Three cross flow blowers are provided on second, third and fourth belt which blow air in opposite direction of material flow. A high flow blower is provided at the bottom that throws high volume of air from beneath of the belt stack and a suction blower is provided on the top of pre dryer which sucks the moist air from inside of the pre dryer and throws out in the environment. UV lights are provided on strategic locations in order to eliminate microorganism growth;
c) Main Dryer: The material deposited on to the second elevator conveyor is then discharged on to the first belt of the main dryer. A high pressure air flow system is provided to ensure that elevator conveyor belt gets cleaned and all material is dropped on to the belt. A spreader is provided near the drop zone which levels the pre dried material into a uniform thickness layer. This layer travels with the belt and material is dropped on to the next belt at the opposite end. This processes goes on till the raw material reaches to the final end of the fifth belt where it drops into a screw conveyor which then removes the dried material from the discharge port. A Hot air generator via ducts provides hot air at the bottom of the five belt stack. Hot air rises from bottom to top heating and removing moisture from the pre dried material running on the belts. Rotating levellers are used to maintain uniform spreading and levelling of material on each belt from second to fourth. Three cross flow blowers are provided on second, third and fourth belt which blow air in opposite direction of material flow. A suction blower is provided on the top of main dryer which sucks the hot and moist air from inside of the main dryer and pushes through a heat reclamation system that preheats the fresh air going to Hot Air Generator blower using the heat of the exhaust air and throws out the now cold humid process air in the environment. The burner exhaust of the Hot air generator is used to heat the gas cylinders to eliminate icing on the cylinders. UV lights are provided on strategic locations in order to eliminate microorganism growth. , C , Claims:I claim:
