Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention is directed to molded roof lining of vehicle.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART
Currently available molded roof lining is mounted inside the cabin by means of
a plurality of fasteners such as plastic clips and/or by over head equipment
such as consol box, inside rear view mirror, sunvisors, grip assistants etc. The
fastening of aft edge or side edges is carried out separately with the help of
multiple plastic clips onto dedicated roof lining mounting brackets or cross
member.
The above provision adds to the overall part size consuming more time for the
part assembly.
Provision of roof lining surface in the aft face/side faces complicates the
manufacturing of roof lining part as it gives rise a deep draw part as shown in
fig. 1. The roof lining part comprises deep draw (Di, D2, D3) on three sides
except the front side (F) just opposite the rear side (R).

-3-
Now reference may be made to fig. 2. The roof lining surface in the aft face (1) is
secured to the cabin back panel (2) by clipping the aft face of roof lining (1) to a
bracket (3) mounted on the cabin back panel by means of a clip (4).
The deep draw requires reinforcement in order to strengthen itself so as to
avoid rupture in the course of manufacturing.
The above provision adds to weight and therefore cost. Further it involves
complexity and is tedious. It needs atleast two operators to mount the lining
onto the body panel of vehicle, which leads to more labour cost.
In view of the above, the present invention introduces a novel molded roof
lining of vehicle which can address shortcomings of the known art.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
Primary object of the present invention is to provide molded roof lining of
vehicle which overcomes disadvantages of the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide molded roof lining of
vehicle which is simple in construction and cost effective.

Further object of the present invention is to provide molded roof lining of
vehicle which is easy to assemble consuming less time for assembly.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided molded roof lining of vehicle
comprising a single structure having a deep draw1 on both sides in longitudinal
direction thereof wherein aft edge of the roof lining includes a curved part ,
extended towards back panel of vehicle.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings of exemplary embodiments of invention and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: Conventional molded roof lining of vehicle.
Fig. 2 shows: Mounting of aft edge of the roof lining on back panel of
' vehicle in prior art.
Fig. 3 shows: Molded roof lining of vehicle according to present invention.
Fig. 4 shows: Mounting of the fore edge of the molded roof lining in present
invention.
Fig. 5 shows: Sectional view (B-B) of figure 4 depicting placement of novel
aft edge of the roof lining against novel back panel of vehicle
in accordance with present invention.
Fig. 6 shows: Configuration of aft edge of roof lining of present invention.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS

-5-
The instant invention pertains to a technology in respect of molded roof lining
of vehicle. The molded roof lining of vehicle constitutes a single structure with
a deep draw (A, B) on both sides' thereof in longitudinal direction of vehicle as
illustrated in fig.3. The side deep draw (A,B) surfaces are secured to inside of
the cabin i.e. side body panel of vehicle by fasteners/clips.
Now, reference may be made to fig. 4 indicating molded roof lining of vehicle
(L'), front edge (P) of which is connected to a pair of sunvisors (Si, S2) as shown
by means of a plurality of fasteners (1') such as screw, and holders (2').
Further, the roof lining is attached to the roof panel with the help of multiple
clips (3') at various locations as best seen in fig. 4.
The invention lies in the novel design of aft edge of said roof lining so as to
render the same technically as well as economically advantageous in
comparison to the existing roof lining.
For the newly devised aft edge, reference may be made to fig. 5 reflecting the
constructional changes in the aft edge and adjoining back panel (2').
The aft edge (A') of the roof lining includes a curved part extended towards the
back panel (2') as illustrated in the figure. The curve is preferably a smooth
curve to avoid development of stress at the curvature.
0 D E L.Hi I 2.0 - 8- i - 2 8 1 S 17 : 2. 5
Further, the back panel is provided with a chamfer (B1) forming a resting
surface for the adjoining curved part of the aft edge as shown. Here, the resting
face of said back panel creates reaction force and prevents the roof lining from
sagging.
In addition to the above, for the extension of the curved part towards the back
panel, the end of the aft edge (curved part) is integrated to a member (M) in
alignment with the part of back panel meant for supporting the member.
In other words, the aft edge of the roof lining includes an inclined part (Pi)
integrated to an angled part (P2) wherein the angled part establishes contact
with the back panel of vehicle as shown in fig. 6.
Thus, the aft edge of the roof lining is designed to function as snap. This in
turn keeps the aft edge pressed against the back panel and, also against the
roof panel by virtue of its configuration, which keeps the aft edge locked in its
position.
Thus, the molded roof lining's rear edge is mounted onto the back panel,
without external fasteners but with the inherent shape of the roof lining, that
acts as a snap. The fore edge is mounted with roof equipment like inside rear
view mirror, sun visor mounting bracket and holder as already mentioned.

The roof lining of invention is preferably made of fabric of composite material
manufactured by molding without restricting scope of the invention to the
same.
Thus, other materials and methods readily apparent to a person skilled in the
art are understood to be within perview of the invention.
The present invention gives rise to the following advantages:-
- Roof lining is secured against the back panel and held in tension against
the roof panel, preventing sagging.
- Eliminating the need of brackets for clips used to mount aft edge of roof
lining thus reducing cost.
Requires less number of assembly operators for fitment.
- Facilitates manufacturing of roof lining.
Ease in the formability of cabin back panel owing to provision of chamfer.
- Reduction in assembly time and effort on account of elimination of clips
and brackets from the aft face of roof lining.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
following claims:-

It is associated with the following advantageous features:-
- Roof lining is secured against the back panel and held in tension against
the roof panel, preventing sagging.
- Eliminating the need of brackets for clips used to mount aft edge of roof
lining thus reducing cost. -f
- Requires less number of assembly operators for fitment.
- Facilitates manufacturing of roof lining.
Ease in,the formability of cabin back panel owing to provision of chamfer.
- Reduction in assembly time and effort on account of elimination of clips
and brackets from the aft face of roof lining.
